It's funny these days we have to name everything, like he has to be bi-polar or borderline-personality or whichever diagnoisis they wanna throw at him. In the past he would have just been considered an excentric genius.

And it kinda sucks that the media likes to throw these labels around, it doen't do any good to fans, axl or those who do have these conditions other than create stigma.

As a fan I hope it's all untrue because it'd be great to have a tour etc, and as a human, well it sucks for Axl or anyone to be that unhappy.

Oh it is sad to hear he is that unhappy.  That's for sure.  And if all this is true then why does Ron lie to us like that?  Cause the Axl depicted here is the total opposite of what Ron has been saying lately.

I won't blast Axl here cause well it would be too much of an easy target.  What I'll say though is that this makes what Ron said lately in interviews sound like total bullshit.  And I ain't surprised one bit about this piece.

Not everyone knows what the Mats guys are up to or their names.  It's not a selling point.  So if not for Axl the current GNR lineup as a band would be unknown to all or to most anyways.  And I still give you my example cause I know there are a lot of Metallica fans.  What is Newsted up to?  Some may know but a lot of people have no clue.  Even with GNR.  To Joe and Jill public Izzy has mostly disappeared from the radar.  Joe and Jill public won't be able to name you one Izzy solo song.  And Izzy was an important member of GNR.

In contrast I do think if BH, the guitarist from NIN, the bassist from Replacements and drummer from Primus got together, in 99 or 02, there would have been interest. even without Axl. Had Al Jourgenson, Dave Gahan or Robert Smith been the singer, there would still have been moderate interest & following.

That's what I'm getting at. Now, it's the replacements replacements. (Referring to the AFD/UYI replacements, not Tommys old band)

I'll give you this.  That band would've had moderate success even with a lesser known singer than those you mentioned cause Dave Gahan and Robert Smith are huge names.  Even Jourgensen is something pretty big and the best choice of the three.  But we're discussing the current lineup.  Before GNR Fortus, Bumblefoot and DJ Ashba were unknown to me.  Ferrer was unknown as well.  And it's not a given that all would know Pitman and as far as Dizzy goes, I don't think he'd garner that much attention.  So this lineup would need one hell of a lead singer to be known by Joe and Jill public.  The three you mentioned would be good choices.  While the 99 lineup could've made itwith a lesser known singer.

I'll give you The Replacements, and I'm sure GnFnRAxl would too as he was making more of a blanket statement, but come on. SixxAM?!  Get real. Nobody heard of them or cares about them.  And while The Replacements were a great, well known band, no one cares that their bassist is in GnR. It's not a selling point. It's an "Oh I didn't know that".

Agreed.  As a mater of fact I don't know the names of the other guys in that band other than Stinson and Paul.  Even Tommy's brother I can't remember his 1st name.

If Axl wasn't in this band, would you care about them at all?  Would you think they had "potential" or chemistry as a band??  No? Hmmm, so it must be Axl's songwriting which makes it all gel together, right? hmm

I'm just being honest. I see nothing in this group of characters. They're all skilled in their own right, almost 3 shredders on guitar (personally I see that as a problem). Talented yes. A band I'm waiting to hear new material from?  No. They'd have to prove it to me first by releasing something of their own first.

I agree.  Take Axl out and NOBODY would've ever heard of thos guys.  Nothing against them but as it stands right now, this lineup leaves me feeling very indifferent.

Nobody heard of The Replacements?  Nobody heard of SixxAM?  I know the guys aren't household names, but you're making it seem like Axl went out on the streets and picked the first guys he saw.

Of course I had heard of the Replacements.  Sixx AM?  Seriously?  Nope!  And what I meant in my post is that nobody would've heard of Stinson, Fortus, Bumble, Brain or Frank, Dizzy, Pittman and DJ Ashba as a BAND.  I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be a huge act, and that they'd probably be an opening act known to some but still unknown to the majority.  Just because I have heard of The Mats don't mean I'd know what Stinson would be up to.  Man this guy was working  selling ink cartridges before joining GNR.  And if it weren't for Stinson being in GNR I wouldn't always know what Paul Westerberg is up to and I don't care.  And don't ask me what the other remaining guys in the Mats are up to as I have no clue.  In closing I'll give you a HUGE example of what I mean.  Without looking it up on the net can you seriously tell me what Jason Newsted formerly of Metallica is up to now?  I liked Newsted when he was in Metallica but seriously I have no clue what he's up to.

I think it's a bunch of hacks. Axl & some other guys.

Yep!  That tour would be over after the opening act played their 1st song.

Yeah...pretty interesting huh.

Metallica is an awesome band, but it was surprising how they brought metal to a more mainstream audience, rather than remaining a more boutique product, ala Anthrax, Megadeth, Black Label Society and others.

Meanwhile...as for GNR....it's the silence that surprised me at the time. It's normal for us now, but back then ou wouldn't have seen it comming. Like you'd have expected the old band to go on, or the old members to die and that be the big rock story ala cobain, or axl to kick them out and reform with a new band but keep up the public profile he had in 1992 and release new music for better or worse. But instead it was like they vanished for 6 or more years...then a serious of sort of aborted starts. Very odd the way the wholething has played out. Would have lost money on it in vegas wink

But I do love both bands!

You call this GNR normal?  Holy shit man!  You really do have battered wife syndrome.  Axl's GNR is anything but normal.  The guys literally shit their pants when asked GNR questions.  Take Dick for instance.  The guy can't even comment on who chose what guitar solo and why.  And that is normal?  GNR is the only supposed band (I don't call this a band) that I've seen operate like this.  And I won't even get into Axl's treatment of his fans and how the whole CD release was handled.  CD's release would've been handled better by a 12 year old kid man.

#550 Re: Guns N' Roses » Tales Of The Bumblefoot : An Exclusive Interview With Ron Thal » 884 weeks ago

And Monkey.  The guys may be involved in the song writing process, but when it comes to decision making as it relates to GNR the buck stops with Axl.  Like I said, Ozzy is a solo artist but Zakk Wylde and others do write material with him.  But Ozzy and his wife are the ones calling all the shots.  Same with GNR and NIN.  Trent calls the shots so does Axl.  Take Metallica.  Trujillo joined the band after St Anger was recorded and he was more aware of what was going on with Tallica than anyone in GNR.  Cause the Met guys are a band.
