A LOT more people make their way to Wal-Mart than BB.  Anyway, the real test will be week 2 sales, not the week 1 sales when every internet fanboy has purchased 5 copies for himself.  I bet it takes years for BB to get rid of their initial purchase if the numbers reported are accurate.

Week 1 sales do alot to help week 2 and thereafter. If it does huge numbers in week 1 then it helps create buzz for week 2 when people who didn't buy it look into it to see what they missed out on.

Yeah, very true.  And buzz you're always looking to downplay any success GNR may have.  At first it was, Chinese Democracy (the song) did well the first day but let's see how it does the second day.  From my perspective the hype didn't die at all, maybe we had to wait for the 3rd day?  Now it's, well it'll sell well the FIRST week, but just wait till it flops the second week.  I see where you're coming from, I mean you could be totally right.  It just seems you seek out the negative and fail to ever recognize the positive.

I never said to wait for day 3.  I said let's see how it does when the crazy internet people get tired of voting a million times.  As for CD, I said years ago that if it ever came out it would sell big week one (before album sales started declining) and I still say it will do well week 1.  I'm saying what it sells in week 1 won't be a good indication of what the public thinks, but if it keeps selling, obviously the public will have bought into it.  I hope that happens, I just don't think it will.

You call it negative, I call it realistic.  The positive is that the album is coming out.  That's good and I'm happy about that.  That doesn't mean that I forget every bit of common sense and freak out about it.  It means I stay cautiously optimistic.  I'm waiting to see if I like it before committing to buying 100 copies for myself and I just don't understand why anybody else wouldn't do the same thing, but impulse anything isn't my strong point.  I tend to think things out and sometimes over think them.

Some people actually like ac/dc.  I know some people that love them.  I think they are ok, but I haven't bought one of their albums since The Razor's Edge.  I've walked by the wal-mart display - they do a pretty good job with it, I hope the BB display is more impressive and I have a feeling it will be if they tie the re-releases to it.  The release of CD is going to end up being profitable for Slash and Duff if BB markets it the way I think they will.  If somehow they can get the young generation to buy CD, all those kids are going to buy the back catalog eventually as well.

I will go purchase CD at some point - probably not day one, but even if the album as a whole isn't good, I will still support Axl and purchase it.  If it's very good, I'll be doing the same crazy shit others are doing like buying LPs to frame, etc.

Sorry Buzzsaw, but at this point, I 100% disagree. Im in Los Angeles and our biggest rock radio station which has a very anti-gnr DJ, KROQ106.7 just had Chinese Democracy at number 3 on their furious 5 at 9 (the top 5 requested tracks of the day.) No forum had anything about spamming this radio station and even I didn't call in about it (although now that I see people are voting for it, I will.)

It's not just a bunch of GNR nerds man. Maybe in some areas, but in Los Angeles? There's probably 5000 GNR fans on active forums... Los Angeles has like 3 million people... even if only 10% of LA listened to KROQ, there's no way that the tiny online GNR fanbase would get this song on the 5 most requested of the day.

Like James said, I think we are in the curious stage, people are requesting this song and trying to see if they like it or not. But it's definetly not some GNR nerds in LA... believe what you want, and I understand because even I was blown away to hear it doing so well. Hopefully it keeps up because it's just setting up a springboard for the next single wink

Just because you didn't do it or this site didn't do it doesn't mean it didn't happen.  There are some pretty large sites out there.  Regardless, only number 3?  That's pretty telling as well...what masterpieces were 1 and 2?

all this discussion is pretty much baseless anyway...we wont know until the single has been around for a couple weeks or so......or vice versa until the album has ben out for a while...only then can we truely guage interest...anythign before that is just speculation

nobody i know has said anything one way or the other about it...so i dunno how you guys are getting all this feedback

the only feedback i get is "So they finally are gonna release it huh? 'bout time"

That's what I get too (if I get anything) and people know I'm a huge fan, but I'm not going to come out and specifically tell people they are lying about what they're being told...I might say that they are being lied to though if they are going to claim everybody loves it.

There you go again. By your logic, no band who has ever attained a number one single deserves it because of their "idiot fans" are cheating.

Obviously there are people who want this band to succeed and those who want it to fail. That's clear.

Damn...THAT is what you got out of that entire thread of posts?  Good God, it's no wonder...nevermind.

{sarcasm} Great point, why didn't I think of that?  I mean, the ONLY way to get to number one is by over-inflating the votes for your favorite artists because they can't make it on their own. {/sarcasm}

What fanbase doesn't flood radiostations with requests? That's how they get high chart positions. It's completely ridiculous that you're attacking people for doing what every other fanbase does. They want their favorite band to be successful.  Jesus Christ, Buzz, come off it aleady.

No, what I'm attacking them for is doing it and then using it as "proof" that the song is popular.  All it does is prove that there is a small loyal fanbase that has way too much time on their hands.

"Look, I voted 1,000 times and it made it to number 3!  Way to go me!!!"

Every non-GNR to casual GNR fan I know of likes this song.

That's good.  I'm glad that's what they told you.  But if EVERY one of them said that, some of them weren't completely honest, because no song or band is liked by everybody.  It's more likely they didn't want to tell you how they really feel for whatever reason.  Let's see how many of them rush out to buy the album.

Go to EVERY GnR forum and you'll find at least 1 thread pushing people to vote for the songs

That's pretty standard for any band when they release a single. They're fans of the band.

Yes, but as a result, the "facts" of where they rank mean absolutely nothing.  Did they get enough calls, texts, and e-mails to rank high?  Yes.  Was it more than 50 people responsible for all the messages?  Who knows?  So IF you're going to purposely "cheat" the results, you cannot in turn use those results as evidence of success.

You are all a bunch of hypocrits.

Lets leave the name calling out of this.

That's not name calling, that's accurately reflecting their stance.  It's being hypocritical, thus making the people doing it hypocrits.  It is the same as calling them GnR fans, unless you consider that name calling as well.  I could have called them all kinds of names, but left that part out.

The song is in the top 5 because the internet idiots are plugging it, not because the general public wants to hear it.  You want proof?  Go to EVERY GnR forum and you'll find at least 1 thread pushing people to vote for the songs and followed by posts of people proud that they did so.  But all those votes in your mind are real and people really want to hear the song?  Now who's being irresponsible?

That's a fair point, but the track is most certainly getting attention. Not just us forum junkies either. Its getting tons of listens on sites like youtube, myspace, and other music related sites. That cant be denied.

However, we are now in the curiosity stage. Tons of people are going to check it out. We'll know in a couple weeks how much staying power this track really has.

But who is listening?  That is the question, and I assure you that John Q Public didn't type Guns N Roses into the youtube search box to look for the song...it's people that are already fans.  So they are at best hoping to keep the existing fans, but have no hope of getting a mass amount of new fans.  More realistically old fans are going to be apathetic and the new fans will never hear the song - as the (being politically correct here) people who change their mind constantly on what is and isn't allowed as an opinion keep pointing out, none of the old fans will ever give it a chance.

GNR should be able to sell at least that much. Way more hype and promo behind GNR.
