That video with the people arguing with the doctor is so crazy.

I have a friend that will be like that.

I honestly don't know what to do about it. He just can't be reached with any type of logic it seems.

Sorry to hear.

Hang in there.

I went with Q4 in the hopes that the Aussie tour is a very soft launch for the next phase themed around a new EP or something. Like maybe demo a song live or something.

But I think 2022 is more likely.

I mentioned this because I watched an interview with a feminist on trans people who made some interesting points that made me think.

I think one of the issues around this stuff is that many LGBTIQ  people are somewhat allied in their dissatisfaction of their historical treatment in society, however, underneath that as individual groups some of the things they believe are not so closely aligned with each other.

They are often grouped together as one people - basically everyone who is non-hetrosexual and non-cisgender as if it's a unified movement but in places it can be logically inconsistent to believe EVERY single one of their individual beliefs together.

It's a bit like atheists vs religious people. Religious people will be allied against the atheists...but when you go deeper than that it's an awkward alliance as everyone religious doesn't believe in the same things.

I would like to know what caused this. I was reading the comments and looks like the police were trying to leave to chase a suspect and people surrounded the car to protect the suspect?

The sudden speed comes off as aggressive in nature though.

Logically, if they had police business and were being blocked they could have just kept inching forward at a slow speed and protesters would have been given the choice that they could either be run down or back off. You wouldn't expect the car to suddenly plow forward at very high speed like that. Looks like he really put the foot down.

I'm not anti police but I can't really see a justification for doing it so aggressively if it's just crowd control - only thing I can think of that might explain it would be if someone pulled weapons on them and it was about exiting the situation ASAP...but even then...reverse? It looks calculated to do the host harm.

My take is that the virus was always going to go badly in USA...because...

1. Some really high percentage of your workers have NO savings and live pay to pay. This doesn't go well with the government telling you to stay home.

2. Culturally your whole society and social history puts a strong importance on freedom, individuality and personal rights (see guns etc). This doesn't go well with being told new rules for what you can and can't do to minimise a virus.

3. Heathcare is mixed in the USA - got some of the best shit in the world, unless you are broke in which case you'll have a shockingly bad experience compared to a lot of other western nations. This was never going to go well with something that stresses out the heath system futher like a pandemic.

But those 3 things together and the virus was always going to play out pretty badly over there.

Personally I think you could pick any president and you would have had a shit show regardless because of those factors.

That said - the way mask wearing and other precautions got turned into another political football to play games with is lamentable and disgusting from both sides of politics who seemed to be flip flopping on it the whole time just to point score against each other.

Good news is Americans are kinda a badass optimistic people and I think you guys will cover come this and come back stronger eventually. That's what the USA does.

But it was always going to be ugly first.

I'd really like to read Axl's version of events like his diary/book thing he mentioned online once.

It would be really interesting to get his perspective on events.

I'm sure it would be different to the other guys.

I'm not even trying to work out anything like what really happened or who is lying or anything, for me it's more like getting famous on the level they did is a really unusual and interesting thing to happen in a person's life and it would be interesting to see how it all was if you are axl with Axl's abilities and Axl's brain or whatever.

I think an interesting companion piece to GNR's artworks and GNR's history at this point would be understanding Axl's reasoning. When he was right, when he was wrong, when he was kind, when he was the asshole etc. When he was angry why - when he didn't trust people why - when he did trust people why.

He seems like a guy that thinks a lot - so I think his take on GNR history would be great for us fans just to really understand everything - even if we didn't agree with him.

But I can't see them publishing it as it would probably start a lot of shit and wake up old animosities etc. But for the nerds like us that follow everything - a look into the midset behind all the choices would be awesome.

If you don’t think there is a system of oppression in the USA that keeps black people in a pervasive, disadvantaged state, I don’t know what to tell you. Black Lives Matter isn’t about Marxists,

My issue is even if one does agree that black people are also systematically oppressed, there's no way to support them now without ALSO supporting BLM's agenda on marxism, gender/sex relations,  and the politics around changing the reliance on the nuclear-family.

Although I notice they have toned down those sections of their website now in recent months, so perhaps they realised a lot of their base doesn't want to get into that other stuff.

But that's my problem with it - the piggy backing of issues together, particularly when some of them are relatively extreme beliefs (eg ending the nuclear family's dominance)

It's reasonably in the centre of politics to think that somewhere in the system we need to make some changes to kinda end the cycle of disadvantage that's messing up black people's lives. But the marxism and other stuff is hardline extremist left wing ideas.

Why can I not have one without the other? I want to live some place where the cops are trained not to suffocate a guy to death while he pleads for his dead mom but that doesn't mean I want to go live back in stalinist russia or something either.

What about BLM is hateful?

It's so frustrating to me.

Most people who support BLM just support black rights and wanting a fair go for black people.

However, the organization itself rather than the grass roots movement, is much further left than that.

My understanding is several of the founders of BLM are actually marxist and even self identified as 'trained marxists' in a speech. Among the goals of the movement you would expect such as police reform...are goals more mainstream folks may not anticipate such as a fair bit about gender identity politics, and also comments such as a willingness to "disrupt the nuclear family" model of society.

This frustrates me as being nice to black people is a logical mainstream idea, but getting into marx's philosophies and being against traditional families is not exactly for everyone in the same way.

There's similar problems on the right wing. Basically extremists taking up moderate views and using them to campaign a wider platform.
