What I don't get is this....why is he describing a Slash solo album as "mind blowing"
I like all the posts about "Everything Baz says is mind-blowing..." I thought the exact same thing.
My guess is Slash mentioned some potential names to be on it, possibly Chris Cornell, Kid Rock, Baz, Linda Perry, James Hetfield etc.. They all probably didn't "Sign on" yet, but expressed interest, Baz considers it 'mind-blowing' nonetheless. There was a CD in the mid-90's by a Mike Watt who was bassist of a punk band The Minutemen & Firehose. It had a really awesome concept, it rotated EVERYTHING. Different guitarists, drummers, and singers. So Dave Grohl might have played drums, someone like Henry Rollins was singing, and Thuston Moore of Sonic Youth or someone was playing guitar. It's a pretty good album with the likes of Eddie Vedder, Henry Rollins, Dave Pirner, Mike D, Frank Black & Mark Lanegan all on vocals, among others.

I'd be in. Will it be per decade??
Off topic, Neemo do you remember on HTGTH a few years ago you were going to run a best movie survivor & i came up with some crazy, convoluted idea of how to run it (best genre/per decade, ie. Best Comedy of 80's, 90', 00, best action 80', 90', 00's etc) It was something wierd. Haha, oops.

^^ Agreed. CD is Get in, get out, and kick their ass in between.
With a new vocal track The Blues can be song of the album! I think that final mix will be epic.

OK, out of my own curiousity, and wanting to put all 9 songs to cd, I burned them to disc, and gave the 3 new leaks a listen on my real stereo. And compared to tweety little PC speakers, it's an improvement. So here goes my updated review:
Rhyiad - Not as bad. Certainly like this the best of the 3.Still think the vox are too high, (I think the vox are all demo's on all the tracks). Vocals bad, guitars have good riffs, why the Robin hate?? Not feeling the solos.
Song 2 - Never has a GnR song been so close, and yet so far!! Axl's usually good at writing songs that are great, or songs that are good, with little in between within the song. This time he does it. The beat is great, the first part of the verse is good, then it's a train wreck.. Then the verse is good, piano drum & guitar have a great thing going, then a mess. Again the vox are too high pitched. The outtra is awesome though.
If the World - As bad as it was on my PC speakers. In fact, worse. Here is where I see James' reference to porn music.
Overall I can see the like for these, the first 2 aren't as bad. You can move me out of the 'Hate them all" category and put me into "Like 1 or 2 of them, but maybe not for long so hurry up with this" category.

Axl could have a VERY cool autobiography. From pre-fame, to fame, to post-1995 I'd be interested in reading about his life.

bigbri wrote:I hear ya, bono, and the relentless negativity is really debilitating. I mean, where do I go to talk about these songs I like. Every comment I make here I get ripped to shreds. This has become the complete and utter opposite to HTGTH. Here, nothing positive is accepted. And James knows, I'm not an Axl nutswinger, so that should mean just a little coming from me.
So, great, I'm in an overwhelming minority of people happy with this stuff. Tell me where to go to discuss it? (I know where you might like to tell me to go! LOL) But I'm serious. What's a fan to do?
i am trying to stay away from threads of songs that i dont care for cuz i do feel that the fans that like the songs should be able to discuss them constructively without persecution
i would ask that everyone post their opinion and move on unless they have someth8ing worthwhile to discuss in those threads...
thanks people
In Bono's defense this is the "Overall feelings on the CD era songs...." thread & I feel ALL viewpoints are welcome. I've stated my opinion of the leaks, & there's only about 2 or 3 others I recall who dislike them as well. I can name a few who LOVE them, and alot here like them. BigBri this thread is 18 pages long. If you go thru all the pages I bet only about 20% are negative. Probably less. I try not to post much about it, but Bono's just making his case late in the game. Most of us posted our opinions already, and have stopped posting or post about it less. Because it's just you & Bono going at it makes it seem like it's 50/50 or everyone against you, but I can assure you that's hardly the case on this board. Many times I was the only poster in my opinion, everyone else is just offline at the moment I suppose. Just bad luck BigBri. It's like wanting to go out & get rip roaring drunk & none of your friends feel like doing anything.

and Van Halen had 5150, OU812, and F.U.C.K.(who came up with those lame names??).
I thought OU812 was a comeback to DLR "Eat em & Smile"... Anyway, I'm not a huge VH fan, and I thought some of the songs from 5150 were on OU812, but it is Van Hagar nonetheless. Like you said, more poppy, less raw, but I suppose I liked it. Myb for me it was that Jump & Panama VH I was a kid, by 1990 I was now in high school, so it was a whole new band. F.U.C.K. I thought was good, with Poundcake, Runaround, Right Now, & Top of the World, some pretty good Hagar tracks.
Either way, they were 2 very good bands (although probably better with DLR). With that & ACDC I don't know if anyone else has done it to such a magnatude of successful continuation.

I'd say 6.5/10. There's ALOT of room for improvement on some of these songs (Maddy vocs, Blues mickey mouse voice). In Gnr's defense I do think these are demo's, & not really close to the finished version. Personally, I don't think the 3 newest leaks will not be on the first album, I think they're throwaway songs. Can't even call them filler. I do really like CD, Better, Blues. Not a huge fan of TWAT, but it's good. Maddy's good, but we heard it 6 years ago on MTV?!!
There's absolutely a chance there's more & better songs to be on CD. Myb Better & CD aren't even the best of the bunch. But if these 9 songs were the finished product. I'd say 6.5/10, not very good, especially considering the wait. With Rick Rubin producing Metallica's next one I think that might be solid, & definitely likely contender for album of the year, along with potentially U2 (not sure if it's coming out this year, I think it is).
