There definitely wouldn't have been another Thriller tour, that's for sure.
I think the best (realistic) scenario would have been he came out and did a few good shows before having to cancel the rest of the dates for what would be reported as "health issues".
Maybe a few new songs would be completed and chart. If all went really well for him perhaps some of the "wacko jacko" assimilation with him would die down to a degree and there would be a modest resurgence of interest in his music. That is about the biggest comeback I think that would have been realistic under the best of circumstances. Sadly, given what had been his career for the past decade or so, that would have been a very positive scenario.
As sad as his untimely death is the honest truth is this is the only thing that could have let him "go out" on the highest note possible. The shocking death helped people forget some of the less desirable things that have near destroyed his career.

I have to disagree with this one (there wouldn't have been a comeback) also.
The fact of the matter is the guy sold out FIFTY shows in just a few HOURS...how many people do you think could do that today?
His record sales actually started going up (although not like after his death) once he announced his "This Is It' tour. I DO think it was plausable he would make a comeback. For one thing MUSIC SUCKS today. For another I think people "secretly" hoped for a return. The car crash trance only holds you for so long until you want to see some light.
I do agree with James about the unlikeliness the 50 shows would go off without a hitch. The sad reality is his death would have very likely occured during this tour had it not happened now.

I liked this guy, that game against the Rams was one of the finest Super Bowls I've ever witnessed. McNair always had class about him and he seemed to be a really down to earth guy who just liked to play football.

Man, let's hope this isn't the start of another trio of losses:
Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair has been shot and killed. He was 36.
Steve McNair played 13 NFL seasons.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron confirmed that police were called to a residence and found McNair and a woman shot to death inside. Aaron said authorities don't yet know the circumstances of the shooting.
"I don't have any answers for you now as to what's happened, who's responsible," he said.
Aaron said police have tentatively identified the woman but did not release her name.
Titans owner Bud Adams also confirmed the quarterback's death in a brief statement released Saturday.
Adams called him "one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl."
McNair played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans franchise and then spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
He was a three-time Pro Bowler and was the Co-AP NFL MVP in 2003.
McNair played in the "Music City Miracle" game in 1999, when his Titans stunned the Buffalo Bills with a kickoff return touchdown in the final seconds in their AFC Wild Card playoff game.
McNair led the Titans to the Super Bowl that season, where they lost to the Rams. With the Titans driving for a potential game-tying score in the fourth quarter, McNair completed a pass to Kevin Dyson in the closing moments but Dyson was stopped at the 1-yard line.

I believe he simply overdosed. Drug use catches up with you and in this case I think too much or a lethal combination was the final straw.
I think it was a little of both. While I'm sure he wasn't this frail, wheelchair ridden man who when injected with painkillers suddenly was full of energy & could sing & dance for a full two hours. But on the other hand I don't think he was in peak condition, and bam suddenly overdosed on a painkiller, what a tragedy. I think he was a 50 year old, who wasn't what he was used to, probably could be classified as anorexic, and had been hooked on major painkillers for years, and he was going thru exhaustive dance rehearsals, where he performed great, but his body would be sore and weak afterwards, and he'd get hooked up with meds. His heart couldn't take it anymore and shortly into it gave in.
Until we get an official report I think what you are saying is probably damned close to the truth.

Gunslinger wrote:I think Billboard has REALLY lost some of its relevance by overdoing it with these charts.
Michael sold MORE than the Black Eyed Peas, period...therefore it should be reflected as number 1 on the CURRENT chart because he has CURRENTLY outsold the Black Eyed Peas and enough to own the two and three spots as well. Just stupid in my opinion and not only lessens (in appearance) his remarkable accomplishment but gives a bit of false "gleam" to the Black Eyed Peas. They did NOT sell the most records therefore giving them the top spot is giving them a paper crown.
I agree. I guess this type of stuff was brought about because of albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Eagles Greatest Hits & Thriller.
I say, who cares when an album was released?! If it's good music and it's selling, let it chart!
Yeah, my deal is why not simply let the album chart in both categories?
USUALLY a catalog album isn't going to compete with current albums so the album will likely only be on one chart anyway. In the rare instances it does...so what?? The CURRENT weeks sales should depict which album will be #1 on the CURRENT chart.
It would make much more sense to see the three Michael Jackson albums that sold MORE than the Black Eyed peas be #1-#3 on the chart and the Black Eyed Peas be #4. Silly system they have came up with.
Isn't the sales week Tuesday through Monday? Jackson died on Thursday, so his music was selling from Thursday afternoon through Monday at a ridiculous pace by modern standards. I say modern standards because the music industry has completely collapsed.
You are correct and that makes what he did (he sold 415,000 albums in less than 5 days) all the more impressive.
