Dude was too aggressive and condescending all the time.
It's possible to disagree with people over politics without having to try and tear the other person down as you do it but he always did that. On top of that his tone was always combative.
Maybe the "Current Events" thread will be better.

I watch US Politics with popcorn. I can't wait for the debates a.k.a. The Dementia Bowl.
Did any of you see Biden asking the guy "Are You A Junkie?"

Scheduling of these international fixtures is the big problems. The fixtures schedule is generally already congested enough and is made even more complicated with the accomodations that need to be made to allow club competition to continue.
To be honest, whilst I can enjoy club football in empty stadiums - and it needs to progress to keep these clubs from going under - international tournaments without supporters sounds awful and really boring. Until they can run a tournament with supporters present (even if it's a limited number) they shouldn't proceed. Uefa make enough from UCL and UEL anyways.
#594 Re: The Garden » Racial Discussion » 329 weeks ago
I am staying out of commenting for a bit so as not to dominate the conversation, but this is what I mean when I am talking about the socioeconomic situation. Some of this is likely racism, but it also has to do with keeping the poor down and not a specific race (or races). I believe there are blurred lines.
Yeah, like I think the reason the socioeconomic situation for many BAME people in western countries is on average poorer than the average white person is because of historical factors rooted in racism. The solution to fix that however probably involves helping lift people across the board out of poor conditions AND some affirmative action type measures to rebalance the scales. Got to come up with some measures and schemes in that vein and stick to it for a generation and hopefully see some improvement - the fix to these issues properly is gonna take a long time.

Good topic Buzz and glad to see this brought up in a good way.
Systemic racism isn't just about laws, it's about baked in socio-economic disadvantages that due to historical reasons do tend to cut along racial lines. As you mentioned whilst you may have grown up poor the environment you grew up in meant there was still fewer potholes or off ramps that could badly affect your future life, statistically for black people - both in the US and other western countries - that isn't the case. So it's about how do you address that imbalance - which is where you get stuff like affirmative action.
Folk then complain about actions like that saying they are unfair because they mean person X may get certain opportunity because of the colour of their skin but the fact is these measures are taken really as a way to try and rebalance the scales but it's a long process to reap the benefits.
That said, perhaps it would be better to tackle these issues along class lines and racial lines at the same time. So that no one is left behind.
#596 Re: Guns N' Roses » Matt Sorum's book leaks online. » 329 weeks ago
The book itself is terrible. It's just not well written. Some boring chapters; some that could have been expanded on. It's not surprising it got dropped. If you're not a GnR fan, there's really no point in reading the book.
Agree 100%.
The book is interesting for us hardcore fans because of the juicy gossip but the pacing and writing of this is all over the place. The speed at which some parts are glossed over and breezed through is unreal. Two examples:
The end of the UYI tour, is never mentiooned. One minute he's finishing a show in Mexico and going cold turkey, next thing you know the tour is over and it's Snakepit time. Then the next time this stuff comes up is Slash leaving the band. He writes at length about those 3 years of GNR where he's recording and touring, and then breezes through 93-97.
The end of VR is just abrupt, they fire Scott and the next time VR is mentioned it's over. Nothing written about the fallout of Scott's dismissal or the hunt for his replacement.

I always read and appreciate the effort you put in with your posts Randall. I disagree a lot with what you say, but you do your research which is clear and I'm happy to agree to disagree on things no problem. As you said, when insults are flung then I'll return it.
I really wanted to say something on your comments on racism. Yes I called you a racist I explained why, but let me just put it out there for all.
I called you a racist after you came on posting about how George Floyd shouldn't have resisted. That was the context in which I made the reply. I think we all agree perspective matters. I have and do take back that comment. You admitted yourself after seeing the video how dumb your initial post was. I accepted that and moved on. If I respond to you or anyone with hostility, it is for a particular post. It's forgotten after that which is why you never see me constantly bringing up old shit.If we can keep personal insults out of the thread I think we all could enjoy these discussions.
Buzz, I think you see things too black and white (on the board) sometimes and if anyone disagrees you see red. You got upset that I disagreed with your opinion on isolation, but you missed that other than that I agreed with what you were saying.
Anyway, reset.
Not much to say but +1 to this.
A lot of these threads could do with the temperature being cooled down and folk checking the way they just write in general so that it's less confrontational and hostile. I'll admit as well I am not always perfect.

Agreed Atari. The Beeb's domestic news coverage is a joke these days and when one of them tries to actually do their job this happens.

How many total political parties are there in the UK? I was doing some reading up on it yesterday...are there members of parliament who get elected and choose not to take their seats? I think I read the Irish and/or the Scottish have done this or are doing this currently.
Sinn Fein don't take their seats. They are Irish Republicans so that's why.
We have two major political parties: Labour and Conservatives. They are like your US parties but with a colour swap.
We have other parties too, some are UK wide and some only stand within one of the four nations. For example, In Scotland the SNP are dominant and have been for almost 13 years.

I strongly suggest this thread get closed...this won’t end. RF and buzz will force everyone out of this conversation if they haven’t already.
Dude, two posts before this you made a post where you told one of them to fuck off. You are equally as bad as them at times.
Agreed with what someone said earlier - stating with absolute certainty and trying to demean others when you make whatever point you are making is stupid and low.
