I guess the question I would ask is if you're great at something, why would you go out of your way to recreate the wheel?  What Axl used to do worked.  What Slash used to do worked.  Axl tried to reinvent the wheel with new GnR and it doesn't really appear to work (though mastered tracks could change that).  Slash tried to reinvent his sound and brought Scott in to "modernize" it, which to most people didn't work either (though some like it).  Sure, we want our artists to grow.  UYI showed growth from AFD.  Growth does not = reinventing the sound that made the band what it was.  That's called starting over.

lol no dude, i am talking about the idiots on youtube who hear the leaks and automatically throw a hissy fit- "omg this isnt GNR I HATE IT OMG AXL RUINED EVERYTING HE HAS CORNROWS OMG"

Welcome to how the general public is going to receive CD.  Get used to it (if the album ever comes out).

I'm not sure why Incognito gets any credit.  It doesn't look like he did much of anything outside of begging.  If you're counting on him to produce something, you're wasting your time.

I love the first half of it but the repetitive wanking and chanting outro shit bores me. I hate it getting dragged out live and I hate it being the last song.

I get caught up in the guitar work and pretty much shut out Axl at that point, so the end of song doesn't bother me as much as it obviously does you.

I don't listen to the song that often, but I do think it's a great song to end a live show with.  The end of the song is so high energy...it leaves you wanting more.  I wasn't a huge fan of the song when it came out, but appreciate it a lot more now since I didn't overplay it when it was out and I can appreciate the experience from a live perspective.

I still hear Nightrain on the radio occasionally.  Really amazing considering it was never a hit.

I said this in another thread.  I think Axl was holding BH back for whatever reason.  Maybe Axl though all he can do is shred?  I don't know.  I actually think had BH been allowed to take over Slash's role AND done so without killing the old songs, most Slash fans would have been more accepting of him and the new band.

I'm at wrk, so this is totally off of memory, but I think it's "Giving new meaning to the term beating off - Matt Sorum on Drums."

I know it doesn't always come off this way, but I have a ton of respect for Axl musically.  Some of the songs he wrote on UYI are amazing, but I've always felt that his songs are usually complex in the lyrics and the section changes, but lacking a little in the complexity of the music itself.  While Slash favors straight forward rock and roll, look at what he did with NR, Estranged, Messages (just to say he can still do it), Patience (the acoustic guitar under the vocals while simple arpeggios on the surface give a feeling of texture to the song), etc show that he can (when he wants to) adapt his style to fit a style he doesn't prefer.

The two were gold together.  Now the leaks lack the texture the old songs have, so Axl replaces texture with layer after layer of noise.  VR lacks the guy to set the song structure, so we have simple songs that don't inspire anything (with a few exceptions on both sides - I'm painting with a very broad brush here).  It shouldn't be Axl vs Slash.  They both brought something to the table that when put together created excellence (for the most part...again, a broad brush), but seperately both are missing something to take them to the next level.

I know this will get the BH posse up in arms and that isn't my purpose.  BH brought a lot to the new band and probably saved it from extinction, but the magic (in the leaks at least) isn't nearly what Axl and Slash created together.

I don't think Duff could even tell you what he said...
