#6421 Re: Guns N' Roses » Questions » 959 weeks ago

So people are going to criticize the Original band for being "sloppy" and praise the new band as being better?  Holy shit.  It's too bad many of you never got to see the old band or experience the old band.  Their "sloppy" sound was what made them special.  Anybody can be a polished machine like the current band.  I could go on stage tomorrow and perform the old songs as "good" as Richard, but I could never give the songs the feel that Izzy gave them.  These guys are a backing band - their only job is to not fuck up the songs that were made great by other people.  THAT is uninspired, not Slash and Duff performing those songs with VR.

The new band might be the most talented group of individuals ever to step foot on a stage, but that is what they are - a bunch of individuals.  Had this new band released AFD in the 80s, we wouldn't even be here today and Alice in Chains might have taken the place of Nirvana because the world would have given up on the hard rock scene even sooner.  It's just amazing how easily you seem to be forgetting what really made the old band stand out.  I've heard cover bands perform the classics more along the lines of the old band than these guys do.

Old band: Guns N' Roses
New band: Poison or some other polished band with Axl Rose singing.

I like BBF a lot, but I believe he said he was going to record some parts to give them more sleaze.  Why?  Because that is the Guns N' Roses sound.  If these guys were really Guns N' Roses, they wouldn't be going back into the studio to sound more like the Original band.

#6422 Re: Guns N' Roses » Can interest (in Chinese Democracy) be regained? » 959 weeks ago

I don't think there's been real interest since 2002 to be honest - at least outside of the boards.  First impressions are everything and had they come out and blown everybody away, they could have survived a little better than they have.  They didn't - people were exposed to them through the VMA debacle and that is what post Slash era GnR will always be viewed as by much of the general public.  It isn't interest anymore, it's now morbid curiosity.  It's like watching a train wreck - you know what's coming, you know it's not going to be pretty, but you can't help but peek at it between your fingers as you cover your eyes.  Very few people are genuinely interested in CD musically anymore.  It's all about will it or won't it come out.  Once that question is answered, the interest is over.

Actually, if all he cared about was money, he would have dropped this project after the 2002 disaster and reunited the old band for a big cash grab tour-a real true sellout....2 sides to every coin Buzz.:peace:

Axl isn't that simple to dissect-he is quite a complex character. You love him-you hate him, he can be the nicest guy in the world and the biggest asshole. He is truly a walking contradiction.:headbang:

Yeah, his ego is the only thing keeping him from what he really wants.  I think he's actually quite simple.  He's one of those people that destroys everything around them because they don't believe they deserve to be happy.  No love, no career success, no real friends, etc.  I hope that's the case at least - if not, he's more pathetic than he already seems.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, etc.  I hope everybody enjoys the time with their friends and families!

Most of the bands that they could ask to tour that would be big enough to please you guys are more accomplished that Axl and his current emplyees are.  As some people like to remind everybody, this isn't 1991 anymore.  If Axl was touring as anything not named Guns N' Roses, the opening acts would have had a bigger following than Axl's band.  The only saving grace is the name.  Why do you really think ownership of the name was so important to Axl?  So he could preserve the legacy?  The legacy is tarnished a little more everytime this band takes the stage as Guns N' Roses.  Dollars and cents - Axl's only remaining driving force.

classy.  first he says he never met him and then he insults him like he does.    those guys have NOTHING on GnR and never will.

They have nothing on the original band or Axl Rose.  They can easily compete with the resumes of the rest of the band.

Thats not strictly true although the main focus seems to be on the older acts. T I have learnt about many 'new' and currently active bands from CR.

Suprised they didn't review Sebastian Bach's album though.

I wasn't referring to the magazine, I was referring to the genre.

#6428 Re: Guns N' Roses » Remember this document? » 960 weeks ago

How many of those tickets were sold at full price?  They couldn't fill places GIVING the tickets away.  that's nothing short of BAD.

I didn't say anything was a fact, I said it was accepted as fact because as that thread indicated, the data supported poor sales.  And just because the old site is down and I cannot pull the data that others provided (I don't care enough to bother with the research) doesn't mean it wasn't there and much more detailed than the little bit of information (from the useless pollstar no less) that you've provided.

While I don't admire the new band, I don't hate them either.  They haven't done anything that I see as worth admiring yet, so the jury is still out.  It's cool that people want to be positive, but when the positive gets to the point of using bad data to support an unsuccessful tour as being successful, something needs to be said.  It is what it is.  I didn't create the mess, I don't like the mess, but that is exactly what it is no matter how many times people try to put some sort of positive spin on it.

"I don't remember them cancelling a lot of shows" - that's because you don't want to remember it

"I don't think they played to half filled arenas" - that's because they went out of the way to make it look like arenas were full when they weren't even close

"pollstar says they were the biggest tour of "06" - what pollster measures isn't the success of a tour

It's almost like people are supressing bad memories or rationalizing.  It's bad people.  There is no good right now.  The only thing close to good is that Axl Rose is still alive, which means there's hope.
