Pats are pissed and sending a signal to the rest of the league: Dont question the legitmacy of our team and championships.
I agree that is what they are doing, but I don't think it will get the results they desire. Doing it with this team doesn't legitimize what happened a couple years ago. This team has more talent than any of their previous SB teams - especially on offense.

Going for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter while they were up 42 points?!
whatever
Going for it is bad. Throwing the ball when you go for it is even worse. Run the fullback up the middle if you don't want to kick the FG.

russ: Sure, it's ok if they want to make music together. But let's call it what it is: a dated nostolgia act.
mad: I don't like the bands you mention, but they are certainly different than what came out in the 80s and early 90s. Like it or not, Matchbox Twenty released 3 albums that all are unique and different than each other AND had multiple hit singles on each. That shows growth even if it isn't something you like.
monkey: I wasn't talking about any of us being stuck in the 80s, I was talking about Axl and Baz. I will always love the rock music of the 80s no matter what happens. I just don't want to relive it through "new" material from old people.
#6624 Re: Guns N' Roses » Stuck Inside » 922 weeks ago
can you give me an example of a modern rock act that has taken rock to a "new" level?
No. Green Day or Matchbox Twenty have both grown (I guess) depending on what you call modern, but neither broke new ground. That's a big reason why today's rock music sucks. There are a couple bands from the 80s that have grown such as U2. Bon Jovi managed to recreate itself as well, though they went a different route than I would have. Duran Duran and Metallica have always evolved (for better or worse). Rock music today sucks. That doesn't mean I want to hear Baz and Axl pretending it's still 1986.

What was good and cutting edge in the 80s is now dated and uninspired. I still love the 80s music that was good in the 80s. Part of that is it reminds me of good times, part of it is that I still enjoy that style of music for what it is. It is now 2007. I don't want to hear what was popular in 1987 recreated. I want to hear what I liked in the 80s taken to a new level. I want to hear growth as an artist.
If it was as simple as just making an album that is the same as everything you always did, once an artist becomes big, they would always be big. It doesn't work that way. Times change, music changes. Bands that don't change become nostolgia acts, which I guess is fine. Baz is a nostolgia act. Axl (in my opinion) has turned Guns N' Roses into a nostolgia act and that is something that is almost impossible to emerge from and singing on Baz's album further solidifies Axl as a nostolgia act. Why Guns N' Roses fans would think that's a good thing is something I'll never understand.

Yeah i celebrate what comes from the 80s cos to me stuff like Skid Row and GNR from the 80s kicks the fuck out of what i hear on the radio these days!
also - axl is singing on baz's songs - he is a screamer type singer - so it makes sence that Axl will add some power screams - its what you do in this genre.
One of the good things of Axl was always that he can do screams and rocker stuff yet also write awesome softer stuff too.
I love 80s music more than most. That said, I have no interest in reliving the 80s. Move ahead with the music. Grow as an artist. Make music that at the very least gives the impression that you've adapted to changes in the world over the past 20 years.
Baz had a great voice (I'm not sure anymore based on these songs but he was pretty good on bootlegs) and I was a Skid Row fan years ago. Guns N' Roses in the 80s/early 90s was the best band I've ever seen in my opinion. Even if the original band was still together, I wouldn't want to hear another AFD. I liked the fact that they grew from AFD to UYI and I would have hoped that they would've continued to grow had they stayed together. Even the CD songs show growth and progression from UYI and had they been released in the late 90s, I think it could have been big. Now we're in 2007 waiting for Axl to release 90s songs.

The obvious:
1) Baz is washed up.
2) Baz used Axl to sell albums for him.
3) Axl's performances on the songs are below the standards he's set for himself when he last released albums.
4) The album will fail.
5) The media will lump Axl is with Baz when the album fails.
6) Axl's already fragile ego will take another hit which will not help the possible release of CD.
7) The few vocal fans that support Axl no matter what he does will blast me for this post.
I'm sure there's more, but this is all that jumps out at me at this time.

So we're celebrating a song to be released in 2007 that sounds like it's from the 80s? Is this really what it's come down to?
The Guns N' Roses community has become a bunch of "settlers" when it comes to music. It's sad. We settle for anything that has Axl on it and celebrate average to below average performances as "great" and "mindblowing" when they are nothing special. So far, the best comments people have made specifically about Axl are related to his "screams" in the songs. Come on. Expect Axl to live up to the standards he's set. Don't praise him just because he's Axl. You guys are acting like drug addicts and Axl is the drug. You don't care if it's watered down as long as you get your fix. It's embarrassing.
I refuse to belive that I'm the only one that sees the obvious.
