The band never really whoring themselves out is one of the few bonuses to all the inactivity.
Back then they were all so concerned about being real and to a certain extent they've kept that up.

I don't want to but I think I have to say If The World.

I saw some tv girl being shamed yesterday because her body was healthy looking and she was assaulted by fat chicks claiming she was promoting a "utopian body image". I mean, she was not all that pretty either, just a typical fit body for a young girl who doesn't live at McDonalds. Movies, if not made by these people, have to cater to them.
Coherence (2013)
This movie cost like 50k to make. A year or two back I used this site called "Find a movie" to check out movies from the last 20 years. I watched a few dozens of those highest rated and at the end my conclusion was that a handful of them were okay, decent entertainment but nothing more. There was just one movie I really liked and that was Coherence.
It's about a comet passing by one night, and while it does so one house with a dinner party experiences multiple realities (the whole movie is basically shot inside a living room). Acting is not great but not terrible either. Plot is pretty riveting and the ending decent. Very impressive considering what it cost to make. But that's where we are now. A movie made for pennies has more creativity and quality than a 200 million dollar picture.

That being I love AFD through UYI and a good bit of Chinese but bread and butter will always be 87-91
Agree, there is nothing that is going to match those 4 years. Even if we never got a new song it wouldn't matter all that much because golden age can not be repeated.
I asked this question on some forum a while back: "why do bands lose their creativity in mature age?". Incredibly the responses acted like they didn't know what the hell I was talking about. As if that was not a thing at all.
Spud from Trainspotting put it well: Once you lose it you can never get it back.

Zach Snyder I do like and if he was given freedom to make something it would undoubtedly be good. I worry a little about his form though, or perhaps it is a symptom of less freedom in the process.
Dawn of the Dead - Great debut
300 - Great follow up
Watchmen - One of my favorite superhero movies, one of the few that is really good.
Superman - Mediocre
Batman vs Superman - Mediocre but with some very good parts
Justice League - Mediocre - One good scene imo.

In a sense it's better that way. If you're going to lose a tooth, better it happens quick. On the other hand we're losing a lot of teeth here.

Been watching the Obi Wan series.
The type of movie where some random dad or uncle gets in trouble and they have to fight some bad guys who are way over their league but they manage to defeat them anyways.
In this series, Obi Wan is that random dad. Never held a lightsaber before, doesn't know anything about the Force. Without the indispensable backup of a ten year old girl he would not have completed his mission.
You gotta wonder if the writers sit down and bluntly suggests how to humiliate a legacy character as much as possible. And then build a show around that idea. This show also tells me there must be a ton of good actors out there who for some reason are not getting hired. Or maybe I'm wrong? Maybe this is who we are as a society now and this is the best we have to offer. I can't think of any other reason why big productions have such lousy writing, directing and acting. Like, where are all the pro's working?

Stumbled upon this guy and he's a great storyteller.
This story shook me to the core:
Recommend it to everybody who likes true crime, mysteries and happy/unlucky coincidences.

2012 is when it happened. The world did indeed "end" on that date. I moved back to my home town that year and when I met people I knew a few years later it was as if all of them had adapted to the "new world" and there was some problems communicating and I even lost some friends over it. I'm surprised there is not more talk about it.
Before that the process had still begun but there were still old school stuff going on.
Moonfall is a case in point. If that movie was made ten years ago it would be much the same movie. Empty, seen it before disaster fare with a diverse cast. Now though it's like a crack addict who can no longer get the same high so he starts shooting it raw into his veins. In this movie every background character has to be black. Like "damn, our leads are too white, how do we compensate?". So you go into a hospital and the lead doctor is black and the smartest guy in the room. You go to the white house and joint chiefs are all white, except for one black guy who is in charge and the only guy with lines. The entire movie is like this all the time. As if somebody in production went over the script and circled out all the characters they could turn into black people because a movie has to have that now. Turning a career criminal like George Floyd into a national hero is part of this psychosis. It has gone way beyond trying to be diverse and represent everybody, it's like an unhinged obsession. I get religious connotations from it, as if we are this close to putting up bon fires again.

It can't be far off when we already have this:
