The more important thing is we don't know if those new 'overdubs' were taken, simply, from alternate takes during the original recording sessions. That's why I PERSONALLY don't think we've heard any post, let's say 2002 or so vox on ANY of the CD material or leaks we've had our hands on thereafter. Obviously I don't have much to draw that conclusion from except for the perceptible change in how he sounds on "Angel Down" and, later, "Rock the Rock"..
I could very well be wrong, like I said, its just my opinion - the problem is we don't have enough of a data set to form a more conclusive one, at this point in time.. who knows, though
No shit it all the leaks basically are from the village session era. Minus the remixes , Shacklers , Scrapped.
But you know this.
You know there are a bunch of uncirculated village session era dics.
The way you use certain language in your post reminds me of another individual.
I'm coming at you directly not trying to be rude but hoping you want to share with the community a proper history lesson.
We can all see that players at the table again. the last go around in 2019 wasn't what it appeared. The question is how the river card plays out this time.
Ps the Patrice documentary disappointed me.
Brasky I don't know if you are a technician like Bret the hitman Hart or a solid hand in the ring like Deelow Brown, but I'll be damned if your hypotheses don't get my juices flowing. I'm glad you don't fear the reaper (or other painted faces) or consider yourself king of the offspring. You're a dragon of a poster and I hope you continue to live and post free. While this might not be the state of grace you imagined, your quips and contributions to this community don't go unoticed. Ugh I'm no good at being cryptic.

dave-gnfnr wrote:FlashFlood wrote:Did Ron get no writing credits on CD? Not a one?
Edit: Nope. Answered my own question.
No, bc he just re did solos
Redid solos and a bunch of rhythm parts (notably CD verses). Pretty much exactly what Slash did!
Ron is such a great dude and was literally the only mouthpiece we had for the band post '06. Can't say enough great things about the guy as a person. However, his contributions were so unnecessary to the CD sessions. That's not a knock at him, but further proof that they should have pulled the trigger by 2006 at the latest. After hearing the village sessions and the '07 leaks, there is no reason this saga should have lasted as long as it did. But it is what it is and we don't know every detail, this is only my perspective as an obsessive fan.
With that being said, Ron's vision of writing new music together (you know..as a band) would have produced better results than him going back and adding more layers to tracks that were already on the verge of being over bloated.
No matter how divided the fanbase has been on various topics, i think we can all agree that pulling the trigger on the album anytime between 00 and 06 would have drastically altered the trajectory and success of nu guns.

Definitely a troll, but maybe not skynet self aware.
I don't know if you're new to the game despite you joining this forum yesterday, but this isn't the place for cucking your favorite Gn'R member. You're only 48 hours in and you've managed to annoy a large swath of posters here, whether by design or not. Bottom line, you're coming on a little strong. You're certainly entitled to your opinion/preference, but don't shit on everyone else in the process.

The vocal tracks might get some post production effects added but that's it. The album versions and everything else we have gotten, have always been the same vocal track cut and pasted.

I assume it'll be the same pattern for The General and Monsters on the vinyl. These are CD era demos. I've heard Slither. I've seen its music video too. i don't hear Slither on The General or Monsters. I hear CD era sounds and NIN industrial influenced sounds on them. Slither and The General and Monsters are two different worlds apart.
It's Axl not AXL. Dont gotta yell his name everytime. He wont hear you. The vocal take is the same on perhaps. Listen again and then again if needed.
Okay. Listen to how Axl sings the lyrics up to the chorus and then with the chorus on Perhaps as compared to its demo. The chorus is different from the demo. Axl's singing is different from the demo. Listen how Axl sings the word hey hey. He doesn't sing hey hey like that on the demo. You can tell the Axl vocal is 2019 to present while the Axl vocal on the demo you can tell is 1999 vocals. And then listen to the ending of Perhaps with Axl. That ending isn't on the demo. A Robin Finck outro is on the demo. That's missing from the Slash version. Axl completely reworked the song vocally. I believe Axl has done the same vocal reworking on The General/Monsters vinyl. The Axl vocals on The General/Monsters isn't 2019 to present. It's more likely 2004-2006 vocals. Raw vocals. Axl doesn't have that vocal in him today. You'll hear a big vocal difference on the vinyl as compared to these CD era demos of The General/Monsters.
I bet you can hear Patti Hood and Baz on the album too. Those are some ears you have. Glad it's not open to debate.

I like that at 2.50 in The General there is clearly the sound of sampled frog's ribbiting behind the strings part and nobody at all has brought it up lol
The instrumentals and the isolated vocal track are very interesting to listen to. Definitely fits the motif of layer pressed upon layer of synth/vox and etc.

General is fantastic. For me it was everything I expected (knew it was gonna be in the vein of Shacklers, Scraped and Sorry, a very tight, non epic song). Just wished we got a longer solo and better intro/outro and no tin can effect vocals
TIL probably took the place of Atlas on CD because Finck lobbied hard to get it on the album. Catcher might be the culprit also cuz I don’t think it was ever intended for CD until it leaked, and the tracklist was very influenced by the leaks
Bingo! While I enjoyed every second of the leaks, ultimately they hurt the album in terms of track listing. I'm in the same boat as James. The songs we got from the village sessions and now these tasty little treats, are exactly what I was expecting from Chinese as an album. I love the UYI3 style songs. They are great tracks. But these SOG ,Monsters, General, and all of the voxless instrumental type tracks turn me on something fierce. I think if Axl just would have gotten his rocks off with a solo project we could have had the best of both worlds. We would have that trip-hop/experimental material on Axl's project and then the hardskools and twats on the guns record.
Either way I'm giddy to have so many vintage usernames pop back up into the discussion. Even some of the known "hoarders" are at least participating in the conversations about these new tracks. I think at this point in time, even the hoarders are starting to show some empathy towards getting closure to the Chinese era for the fan base.

jimmythegent wrote:I remain unconvinced these are newer versions with Slash and Duff - sounds distinctly nu-guns to me
Monsters music sounds like VR stuff, the bass is just like slither.
This is pretty undeniable. It's like Duff went over to his rack and turned the knob to Slither setting. I'm glad the bass didn't get burried in the mix.

James wrote:darknemus wrote:I wrack my brain and I just can't think of any band where you can say that, other than GNR.
The only band I can think of that has some wacky stuff happen in its communities that even comes close to this is KISS.
What do your people say about this one?
The big debate since the leak is 'Soul Monster or not?"
It seems logical...but not everything is logical in the world of GNR.
Just to be clear..outside of rampant speculation and some logical extrapolation I don't know anything about this one.
I think the key here is to figure out why these were broken into two files and..more importantly.. why The General seems to have been tinkered with or modified in some manner before we got it.. intentional? No clue but it definitely seems like..of the two.. to have some continuity / flow issues that strike me more as an amateur error or intentional decision rather than a professional one.
I struggle to be convinced these are vinyl rips because..unless ripped from a very high quality vinyl setup they seem to be missing some telltale vinyl rip signs.. again it's impossible to know for sure though as.. at the moment we have way too many variables and just not enough data to lock them down.
One thing I am convinced of.. this isnt AI as I have seen suggested. Unless it's taken a generational leap in the last couple weeks I'm not aware of and I do run in those circles.
Im sure we will learn more soon one way or another.. my guess is probably not from any 'official' channels first though because..well...GNR.
And the plot thickens.....
In your opinion as a fan of this band, do you think these tracks are from the same era? As in they are both post Slash and Duff reworks, or are you in the camp that the leaker leaked two different "eras"? Monsters definitely reeks of Slash and Duff. The General, outside of the talk box doesn't have as discernable fingerprints. I personally think these were curated out of someone's personal collection as a bone to the hardcores and am therefore in the Biff Tannen dual timelines camp.
