I personally didn't offer anything in the way of a real list, just broad guidelines for what he was trying to go for. The best of Romero's Dead cycle is Day of the Dead, and the best zombie movie overall is The Return of the Living Dead.

He ain't gonna is right. Less people are gonna shell out for Happy in Galoshes than did for 12 Bar Blues, a decent album with virtually no sales. Weiland's a hasbeen now. VR was his last shot and he blew it. STP can play as many half-filled theaters and casinos as they want, but the interest outside of their hardcore fanbase just isn't there. His solo output has always and will continue to translate into even less interest. If he pushed back his album's release date, consider it more a marketing gimmick than any sort of actual strategy. Maybe he'd buy himself some press, igniting another imaginary feud with one of rock's most notorious (and greatest) frontmen on the eve of that guy's own make-or-break, mythic release. Too many people are in rehab now for it to actually get another single of his off the ground this time. Maybe he should just go sip some more orange juice instead.

The Killers are actually pretty damn big in the US and I don't see why they're being brushed off so easily. The Killers stand for an almost guaranteed win against GN'R. Nickelback is enormous. Kanye West will outsell them all ... probably combined.

Which is also why I believe several other "high profile" releases under the label were quietly pushed to "more lucrative" dates next year. They want CD out the door and off their backs with the best possible shot it can get at this point for recouping some of its costs. In-house competition just wouldn't make sense.
#715 Re: The Garden » Rolling Stone ends large format after 4 decades » 917 weeks ago
Rolling Stone is irrelevant, no matter what cosmetic changes it may undergo. It's declining readership has nothing to do with its layout and larger format and everything to do with its being littered with poor journalism and two-bit Hunter Thompson clones. Yet for whatever strange reason, it continues to find its way into my mailbox. I don't pay for it. In fact, I haven't subsribed to Rolling Stone for years. I've never contributed to Rolling Stone. Why the hell do they keep sending me copies of their shitastic magazine?

Yes, fifteen's the word. I still don't know if soon is.

Weiland can suck an egg.

I agree with PaSnow. As a longtime supporter of Obama's, I'm excited to see this as a lock. But realistically, not so fast....

Yeah, that came out as an Australian Tour Edition and then sort of got "ported" as a special edition outside of Australia later on. Never picked that one up, because I bought the original version when it came out. I got suckered into picking up the Best Buy limited edition of Libertad though. The one with the bonus DVD. Totally wasn't worth it for the DVD. I'm not much into "exclusive" content. I just want the album, and preferably on vinyl.

Great. We always figured this would get a vinyl release since all GNR albums are on vinyl, but its good to know we're getting it for sure.
Something interesting is that the listings say "BBY Version" after each of them. So I would imagine that those who have thought the Best Buy exclusive would be limited and a different version would be made available elsewhere later are probably right.
I don't know if it was a Best Buy exclusive(think it was though), but when I forced myself to buy Contraband, it came with a bonus disc that had 3 extra tracks.
The Australian Tour Edition? Aside from the variant colors initially pressed, Best Buy sold the same versions of Contraband as everyone else.
