I'm not saying Axl is blameless, I'm just saying I don't think he lies to us in a premeditated fashion. Like there's no reason to think he wants to lie to us.

He says things that HE thinks are true (eg that all the various people who he says fucked him over have fucked him over). Now to an objective person that may or may not be true. Like you might think actually it was axl's fault and not the guy he is blaming, but axl is saying what he himself believes, that it's someone else's fault. That's his perception of the event, and it may or may not be wrong, but it's not a lie.

I also don't see why he would lie about the better video. What's to be gained from a lie? It's far more likely to me that a video did exist but for whatever reason they changed their mind.

Now the complications might be objectively legit - like a legal problem - or they might be subjective only to axl - like he watches it back and it makes him go into a rage or something - but even if he's wrong to be like that or whatever is really happening - it's still a complication...lol...see what I mean...otherwise if i'm wrong - what are you meaning as the actual lies? I feel its just that axl's interpretation of events is usually quite different from others, but I don't think he's a liar.

I'm not saying its a full on normal band either. It's a bit wierd. But I do think it could be less of a band...i mean it could be axl and faceless musicans we don't even know the names of. Like who played on cindy lauper's records from the 80s? We don't know or care. But we do get told who is in GNR...and they do say they got to be creative.

Yeah...pretty interesting huh.

Metallica is an awesome band, but it was surprising how they brought metal to a more mainstream audience, rather than remaining a more boutique product, ala Anthrax, Megadeth, Black Label Society and others.

Meanwhile...as for GNR....it's the silence that surprised me at the time. It's normal for us now, but back then ou wouldn't have seen it comming. Like you'd have expected the old band to go on, or the old members to die and that be the big rock story ala cobain, or axl to kick them out and reform with a new band but keep up the public profile he had in 1992 and release new music for better or worse. But instead it was like they vanished for 6 or more years...then a serious of sort of aborted starts. Very odd the way the wholething has played out. Would have lost money on it in vegas wink

But I do love both bands!

I think metallica was an exception to the rule though, like giving him a 25% stake in the band was kinda unusual for a band in metallica's position IMO. I think it was basicly done because met are all pro-love post the thearpy sessions wink

Like if motley crue got a new bass player I doubt he'd be given equal say and control of the band with the others.

Plus what of bands where songwriting and ownership is held by a couple of people? take Ac/dc - Angus and Malcom write almost everything - is it not a band? They could kick out brian at any moment if they wanted to. If angus doesn't like what brian sings, do you think he can't force him to redo it or drop it from the album?

I dont deny Axl has ultimate control and thus the buck stops with him, but its also sounded in interviews that band members were given freedom to compose anything they want in recording sessions, then Axl picks the parts he liked and felt suited the song.

Yeah i think i remember that.

I also remember pre-vr slash saying he'd jammed with izzy and recorded "the best GNR album ever" but that it wasn't seeing the light of day. Makes you wonder what could exist if they ever did sort out all the shit.

But buzz keeps telling me GNR has died..despite the streaming...lol

Why doesn't that law apply to other bands?

Which law?

James Lofton wrote:

In what world does this take place? The world where Fortus didn't know IRS existed in 2005, or the world where polished tunes with orchestra are ancient  demos?

Well the demo thing is a seperate issue, i'll grant its wierd about Fortus in 05, but maybe the band talks more now than it did at that stage...Bumblefoots statement:

"we see each other on a daily basis, and when we're not, we're speaking to each other all the time, hanging out and doing things together, jamming and playing on each other's albums, and doing everything band members do"

so unless he's lying about all that stuff.

And to Axlin08 - I don't think Axl has directly lied to the fanbase, I think he says things that he believes to be true when he says them. However it's clear his perception of events is sometimes different to how others react to things, and so often these things turn out not to happen, or would not be how another person sees the project.

Take the better video - I'm sure when Axl said that he intended to relase it in a week. But something happened, either some legal complication, or he got into a fight with someone at the label, or something made him change his mind. So the result it what he said about the video was false, but I don't think it was a lie at the time.

Or likewise about the project overall. To someone like james its like NIN cos Axl has final control, but in his deter posts, Axl said that if he was to intentionally set out to make a solo album he'd have taken a very different approach, and that he felt creatively he'd worked with a lot of input from band members for this project. it's all about a persons perception.

You know...neither of these guys are saints in the UYI period....Axl had some fairly public problems, and james was an alcoholic.

The good news is that Axl and Metallica are friends again now, they're thanked in the chinese democracy linear notes.

Of course it's also possible that Axl's recent comments re him being a cancer have made him go "fuck it" - but i do think steven would be there at the same time or first if he was tracking with izzy.

Then again, from a business point of view, having them on the same track would do big stuff for the album from the GNR fanbase.

Aussie i'd be interested to see what happened if they jammed with Izzy. I remember VR basicly started cos Slash, Duff and Matt noticed they still had chemestry when playing at a one-off thing. I dont think izzy wants to have a band these days - but if we wrote enough killer riffs with slash - it could be pretty interestuing.

#7649 Re: Guns N' Roses » Tales Of The Bumblefoot : An Exclusive Interview With Ron Thal » 884 weeks ago

I think bumble is copping a bit of flack unfairly over this interview.

People often get mad when he says its not his place to give GNR news. But realisticly, how would we respond if his ego was bigger? Like if in interviews he said that GNR was all about him,  that he's bigger than Slash and Bucket to the legacy, and that everyhting that happens in GNR is at his whim? Everyone knows that the GNR brand is controlled by Axl and thus it's up to Axl to decide when it's time for news.

I don't see that fact as being incompatiable with his comments about being a band. One is business, the other is creative. His assertion that they are a real band, means that he isn't a session player, that they work as a group together on projects, and have personal relationships too. Being in a band does not mean that there has to be equal ownership or business power within that band, plenty of band have some partners with more say than others.

Realisticly ron is also limited in what to say for common sence for a few factors:

1. Axl is a target for people in the media - it may or may not be deserved - but it's beyond question that many intervewers are waiting to print a story that sells copies by talking about some kind of Axl breakdown or antics. Same with all the celbs. Britney is more interesting with no panties and loosing her kids than she would be happy watching TV at home. That's how the media works. And axl's history makes him prime in their sites.

2. Because the band has been inactive at times, and because of the silence, people like us jump on anything that's said. Maybe it started off being their fault for not talking to us, but now it's a cycle, if they do say even something harmless, we read between the lines in the kind of depth that's insane and starts wild speculation and rumours, and this encourages them not to talk.

3. This is conected to #2. But it's clear that Axl and Betra and GNR managment care more about what is said about them online than some artists would. From what we know of Axl fifth hand, it seems that negativity and rumours upset him and are basicly very unhelpful to the process of what we all want - which is making and performing great music. Now you might say that Axl shouldn't be like that, but IF he is, that's who he is, and bumble is wise not to do stuff that's going to make the kinds of rumours and speculation that interfers with the band.

#7650 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter updates » 884 weeks ago

I'm pondering the likely hood of Izzy and Steven being on the same track...my issues are:

1. Steven hadn't done his drums yet, and it would be odd to track the guitars before drums, especially with a player like steven who is more of a 'live' player and less likely to use clicks etc.

2. To an extent Slash often chooses to protect a reunion, i guess because he knows that even though it's unlikely to happen, if it does it would be big and so why waste it too easily. An example of this was that Adler gig where Izzy and Duff played with Steven, and slash was there but refused to play so as not to upset Axl.  Although I'll grant a studio track is different to a live gig, and it is his own project this time.

So i'm not sure...it would be killer to have the 3 of them on one track...but I also wouldn't be surprised if it was seperate tracks....then again...common sence would be to put them on 1 - i mean they're all comming in - why not go with the known chemestry!
