#7671 Re: The Sunset Strip » Dr Dre Debuts 'Detox' In Dr. Pepper Ad » 885 weeks ago

Dr pepper should have been sued for what they did.

They attached themselves to a high-value brand like GNR without any agreement or contracts or payments - and traded off GNR's image and publicity (the wait for an album).

Totally unaccepetable in a business sence. If they'd screwed up the offer or whatever it associates them with GNR with no control for the band.

Now i can see the logic that GNR could have then worked with them and developed something cool out of it for the free promo etc, but i can see from a brand ownership perspecitve it's not cool of Dr Pepper to do what they did.

I suspect if we knew the realities of dealing with the label Axl's view might be proven correct. It's common talk from artists to feel that they're getting screwed on record deals. In fact the whole way recording budgets work is pretty harsh on the artist. While axl does things his own way and must take his share of the results for that, I totally accept the idea that the label has been less than helpful. At the end of the day, They're approaching the album from a totally different place than axl is.

They have a website. If they are so against the media why not use their website to post up interviews with the band, if fans want to know about guns n roses, the gunsnroses.com  wasteland should be the first port of call.

I'd love to see the website become a real centre for fan activity. These days with digital video and whatever it could have become real great. Like video blogs, downloads of stuff for fans, even if it was paid membership.

Not stuff they're interested in doing I guess.

#7676 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Steven Adler on reunion: "Axl is being a real selfish prick about it" » 885 weeks ago

To be fair to steven though, when i saw the melbourne version of this show - he said some diplomatic stuff but people in the audience kept pressing him and asking questions like 'Don't you think Axl's an asshole?', "why can't you guys just deak with each other" and this kind of thing and pushing his buttons.

Of course the guy wants a reunion. GNR, and the original AFD line up, is one of the most successful acts of all time, the album is still famous and now a classic, and the gnr of his time is not only the most successful thing he could do in his lifetime, but realisticly one of the most successful outcomes most musicans could possibiliy hope for. So it's reliving his happy days, rekindling old friendships, worldwide fame, recgonised success, pleasing his fan base, throw in a couple of million - vs what he is doing now - which is Adler's Appetite and Clinics and stuff - he'd be insane not to want a reunion. From his side of the story its the only common sence thing to do. And, as much as I enjoy Chinese, there's a lot of people like Buz who I think would agree with him that it's pretty much the logical thing.

So i think he's done waiting in that he's not going to not do Adler's Appetite, and he's not going to shoot up crying about it, but of course if they called him tomorrow and offered him the gig he'd jump on it. So would I. And so would anyone!

For the record I think adler gettting kicked out was questionable as a decision. Appart from loosing the feel and all that stuff we've talked about - it just doesn't make sence. I love Slash and Izzy - but them kicking a guy out for drug use? What is that? Adler must have been fucked up big time. And i always understood that business has to be business and if he couldnt drum. But then he said something that made me think, he said "Def Leppard's drummer lost a fucking arm, and they found a way man, they found a way back". And i have to say i agree. Given some of these guys were adlers mates from childhood, and given they were also junkies themselves, and hense not exactly supportave of him cleaning up lifestyle wise, you have to question how fast he was kicked from the group without more warnings, treatment first. I know the delay on the album would cost them money, but like, is that it? You cost someone some money and your done, despite the friendship?

He pointed out a story from slash's book...He was in a house with Slash and Izzy writing use your illusion and ready to go, Axl was more than 7 weeks late. I'm just saying none of these guys were saints, they were a band and gang of homeless people, junkies, and rockers, and like to an extent - it feels like he was thrown out pretty harshly.

Anyway...regarding the comments about Axl...when I was there the crowd was really pushing him to say stuff, and he was trying to be nice, but obviously from his point of view some of Axl's choices are hard to understand and accept. I think on some real level steven is hurt by what happens to. Like imagine watching session drummers replace you in your dream band. Generally he was cool about Axl and just being funny when he made remarks in our session.

He said another thing that made me think. He was asked about the night he was at a strip club with Axl in 2006 or whenever that was. He told the story about the $3000 drink, and said they talked to dawn and renewed his friendship and he left at 10am feeling great. Axl hasn't spoken to him since. Think of that on a human level - of course he might make the occasional jest about the guys being pricks to him in a situation like that. He's lost his friendship, most of his fame, and the chance to make millions of dollars and do what most of the world wants of them. It must be hard for him to comprehend. He isn't an elequient guy. And I think he's just trying to express his confusion. He'll i've seen Axl call himself an asshole on stage lol...

For the record i also understand why Axl (as dexter) said he doesn't see steven much. That he holds the key to stevens happiness in his head, and so that puts pressure on Axl. I can see that if you are Axl, and you have your own idea of what you want to do with the band, then it would be difficult to be friends with steven who's whole life is directed at an imcompatiable result with your own plan.

The end of the day both these guys are human and have their own desires and faults and whatever else, and they do what they will.

#7679 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Chart Positions Thread » 885 weeks ago

I don't think it's that he's weak...to me it's more like, why should he do that if he doesn't have to, it would just be trying to prove a point to people that he doesn't really need to please.

I'm facinated about your views on the 2002 shows. The vocals for me are an integral part of gnr, and the delivery of them in that era was just so strange, especially on the older songs, that i'd never want to relive that time. Coupled with an image I dont think suited axl and the band to me it doesn't hold a candle to the latter stuff. I'll grant that bucket is cool and that the songs date from then however. I'm really surprised about Robin though....my view on him in 2002 was that he really mutilated some of the older songs...and I felt that by 2006 his playing had dramaticly improved. Maybe i should watch again.
