#761 Re: Guns N' Roses » Information on Shackler's Revenge » 920 weeks ago
It's "sloppy" in a White Zombie sort of way, which is what makes it so badass. Shackler's Revenge is like the long-lost brother of Oh My God. Both sound like they were conceived/recorded around the same time, but this Shackler's seems to have an additional luster added in production to "correct" that same sludgy sound that was met so harshly with Oh My God. It's really too bad. I've been a fan of Oh My God since the get-go and was apparently one of the few people not let down by the first new GN'R material to be heard (even at that point) in years. The two songs are so stylistically similar. It's the production, or rather the final mixes released of each, that are their only distinct difference. That and Oh My God sounds like a Robin Finck number re-recorded to not sound like a Robin Finck number and Shackler's sounds like a Buckethead number straight up.

Half Baked is best, but I try to avoid ice cream altogether except the rare social (birthday, date) occasion.

I don't see how it's possible for anyone to "sell out" to Axl Rose. At least in those terms.

I agree Cornell's best bet is a Soundgarden reunion. That said, I also think his 007 theme trumped the entire Audioslave catalogue.

Just looking back a few pages... Stinston isn't a rock star.... Jesus Christ. This thread is just oozing with sillyness, with the same "negative" vomit against memebers of the new line up, specificaly Tommy, as usual by the same people.

Not going to happen. This is the same statement that's been going around for almost ten years. And you know what? Jack shit has come of it. It's ain't going to happen.
You must have a different insight on the situation at hand than the one I'm being presented with.

If, under whatever strange circumstances, a third album does materialize, I think the band should release it under the Revolver moniker and drop the Velvet altogether. Just a random thought. The Velvet part of their band got his ass fired, anyway.

GN'R had three and an EP. The Replacements had zero. It's all opinions, man. True, record sales may not mean shit, but we're on a Guns board. You're gonna be hard pressed to find other Gunners who'll side with the former band of a nuGN'R member over the merits of Duff. That's a fact you'll just have to accept. Duff could rest on the laurels of AFD alone and blow the Replacements entire discography into irrelevance. Again, my opinion. I appreciate that you and others are a fan of Mr. Stinson's, but he is neither as culturally or musically significant as Duff or a "rock star." He's a hired gun whose basslines are all but indecipherable amongst the wall of sound we've heard in the new leaked material.

To reiterate, VR has a three album deal. So far, they've released two and are currently splintered and sans frontman. Axl is also obligated by Universal to release his own $13 million album. Before either one sees release, a reunion will have been solidified. Whether you see Chinese Democracy rush released to make way for a reunion announcement, to give VR time to fulfill their contract, or even released in some sort of retail exclusive box set that may or may not contain the GN'R name, you will see it soon. VR could just as easily shit out an awkward "greatest hits" (it's been done by lesser artists after only an album or two) or even a live disc at this point. Bottom line, there are loose ends to be tied up and the next official word you hear from either camp regarding their next move will be after a reunion has already happened behind the scenes.

If not Izzy, then I'd need it to be Gilby. I personally wouldn't want Stinson in a "reunion."
I hope most of you took my predicted line up as the joke I intended it to be. Some of you took it not only a little too seriously, but started adding serious weight to a line up argument. That's just silly.

I predict GN'R 2008 will be:
W. Axl Rose - vocals, piano
Buckethead - lead guitar
Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal - lead & rhythm guitar
Richard Fortus - rhythm guitar
Tommy Stinson - bass
Brain - drums, percussion
Dizzy Reed - keyboards
Chris Pitman - keyboards, programming
