#7991 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses Names Dj Ashba As Band's Newest Axeman » 892 weeks ago
I'll just have to say it...
They should have given Paul Gilbert a call.
I'd see Gilbert as more of a Bumble (and bucket) replacement.
Like if you look at it as 3 seperate jobs:
The Rhythm job: (Izzy > Gilby > Paul > Richard)
The blues lead job: (Slash > Robin > Ashba)
The shred lead job: (Bucket > Bumble)
So gilbert to me would be the dude to call if bumble walks.
I'll say gilbert has absolutely amazing guitar skills though. In technical ability I'd say he'd pretty much have to be the best guitarist on the planet, or at least in the top 2 or three. Although i'm unsure about his compositional skills, I had a solo album of his, that had amazing playing but the songs themselves were not to my tastes. it could have just been that album. But I suspect he may be a better player than he is a writer. But given he'd be adding just solos and stuff to GNR tunes one would expect....it could work...and someone at his level is always going to be an amazing asset.
#7992 Re: Guns N' Roses » The Possibility of a Guns N' Roses '09 Summer tour » 892 weeks ago
there's just nothing to talk about right now, regarding gnr.
Yeah that's it for me...at the moment we're limited to posting "cool i hope it happens". I'm pretty confident it will happen though, as I don't see why the band would have anounced DJ if there was no tour. At the same time, Axl and co seemed to be stressing they didn't have plans locked in yet. So i'm expecting that its happening, like the early stages are in development (get the band back together, reherse some songs, early talks) but it's not like there are exact times and dates lined up with a promoter in secret yet.
I'm going to have to warn you guys....if the band plays more CD songs this time out, and if Ashba renders Slash's old guns parts more faithfully to the cd versions than robin did...(which to me was always something that freaked me out live...like i'd expect a melody or phrase and it's not there) then ..there's a strong possibility i'm going to go into fanboy mode!!! I've been listening to loads of CD recently and enjoying it a lot. I may well become one of those annoying hyper positive people
For some reason I have a really open mind about this line up. Which isn't ment as a desrespect to the old bands who I also love a lot, or fans of the otehr bands, but I guess emotionally I feel like i've lost my baggage about it, I used to want a reunion lots, and while it would always be interesting if that happened (assumign the guys actually became friends again) I've come to accept Axl isn't going to change his mind, and I'm ready to give this band a fair go this time around

IRS, TWAT, Catcher thats all i've heard (i think) to be honest ive deleted all the leaks from my computer now that i have the album
Me too. I liked the leaks when I heard them because it was nice to hear Axl again during the long wait, but to be honest, now that i've heard the final versions I can see the idea about them being 'unfinished'.
Catcher is debatable because some people like Brian May's style etc...but in terms of IRS, and TWAT...the 99 demos are IMO very inferior to the final version.
A 99 CD would be lacking the cool buckethead solo in the middle...which is one of the best parts.....
The only demos i'd be interested in at this point would be any unreleased songs.

the album or the song?
#7995 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Steven Adler on Opie and Anthony HUGE GNR thing » 892 weeks ago
at this point does anyone even care if there was a reunion?I mean IF a reunion ever happened it would only be for the money,I'm not saying that Axl,Slash ect. are greedy but reunions are always about the money,
I think money will NEVER be the cause of any potential gnr reunion.
Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven are all cool with each other..the person who doesn't want a reunion is Axl....and from what i've read in his interviews...I see Axl as a person who is clearly not motivated by money.
Appart from the fact that he's already rich, even if he were poor, I think Axl's the kind of dude who will go homeless before he'll associate with someone who he feels has betrayed him etc.
IF a reunion ever takes place, in my opinion, one thing will cause it: Axl and Slash talking to each other, sitting down together and talking, as people, and discussing whatever the fuck went wrong with their friendship, someone appoligising, and them becomming friends again. Short of that happening, I think you could give Axl a whole bank and he'd not do it.
As fans that could be a good thing. We'll not get a phoney cash based show. We'll either get the real chemestry back - of guys who are friends and kick ass together on stage, or we'll get no reunion at all.
#7996 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash Basically Blaming Axl » 892 weeks ago
In the Billboard interview, he mentioned this:
Give me a fucking break. What's clear is that one of the two of us will die before a reunion and however sad, ugly or unfortunate anyone views it, it is how it is. Those decisions were made a long time ago and reiterated year after year by one man.
There are acts that, once committed between individuals, they are what they are. To add insult to injury almost day after day, lapsing into year after year, for more than a decade, is a nightmare. Anyone putting his own personal entertainment above everything else is sickening.
Can anyone actually guess the source of his rancor because I can't?
Interesting post. I would guess the insult to injury remarks refer to Slash's media interviews, which for whatever reason Axl considers lies. The 'personal entertainment' remark is saying that fans shouldn't expect him to work with slash for their own amusment when it would be terrible for him.
So the question is, what are the acts refered to in the first sentance that Axl found so unforgivable?
Obviously we have no way to know this. I would guess and speculate that perhaps it's something that happened on a personal level.
Imagine if something like this had occured: Slash interjects in Axl's relationship with Stephanie. Either he fucks her, or helps her avoid Axl one night when they're having a fight or something. He gets involved. Or perhaps he doesn't but Axl *believes* he got involved for whatever reason. They have a massive fight and their friendship is damaged on a personal level. For a while they try and soilder on by simply avoiding each other in the studio and stuff, but the bad blood on a personal level doesn't sit well with the existing pressures in the band (Axl liking huge, the normal cancellations etc, the potential change of direction) and eventually the enviroment is just too toxic and slash leaves. While these little things would have been causing problems anyway, the real problem from Axl's perspective is the damaged friendship that started the bad blood. But then slash in the media blames everything but that as the reason for the break up. Imagine how annoying it would be if you stoped being friends with slash because he fucked your ex or something yet slash is always saying the reason GNR died was because of of frustration with cancelled shows and other stuff. I'd get SUPER pissed in such a situation. Just a guess.
Anyway - so the above is probably utter bullshit...but what i'm really trying to re-itterate - is that I think the source of the problem is *something* on a personal level between them. At least it is to Axl - this may or may not be something slash is even aware of in his own mind, as it seems their personalities and outlook on life are different, and it's the fact that slash talkes about the business stuff that pisses off Axl.
#7997 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash Basically Blaming Axl » 892 weeks ago
But I will say the guys didn't have the balls to stand up to Axl when it really counted, that's all.
It depends how you look at it.
I guess you could say that allowing Axl to get control of the name rights was a lack of balls, especially if the 'gig cancel hostage' situation they've talked about is true (i think Axl denied it recently though). Axl put it down to them not showing interest, and given their drug use etc at the time, I think it's possible it was a combination of lack of business ackumen, just wanting to play, being high a lot and deciding not to make waves with Axl who was clearly passionate about it. Stupid decision for them i'll grant.
But at the same time, quitting the band was ballsy, or kind of the ultimate bluff and Axl took them up on it. Like realisticly GNR was huge, and it's almost impossible for anyone in a band that big to quit and achieve the same level of success in a new outfit. They must have known that when they quit...but they did it anyway.
So in a sence you could say they've been standing up to Axl for years.
Izzy did it when he said he'd rather walk than become an empolyee in something he helped create. Slash drew the line eventually over the incidents he talks about in his book. And the others took longer but eventually followed suit. If you think about Slash's comments, he almost never says like "fuck axl" type stuff, he basicly hints about what would have to change in order for him to return to GNR.
Of course in reality Axl would never want him to return to GNR. But in that way, you could say it's standing up to Axl that caused the break up of GNR. (faults of everyone asside). The guys kind of bluffed Axl, like, back in the day, who would really have expected him to attempt to carry on GNR alone, but for right or wrong he's done it, and called their bluff.
I'll i'm saying is that if they guys hadn't stood up to Axl, they'd be playing on CD now.

The logo is this:

and the girls were using this:

Looks like they've named themselves Blonde Jersey now...which should solve their problems with Bon Jovi...and yet keep the general idea.
Some of them are kinda hot too

#7999 Re: The Sunset Strip » Bon Jovi sues tribute band » 893 weeks ago
I'm not sure about in the usa but in Australia part of being able to claim a trade mark is yours is proving you have defended it and that it's only associated with your use. So while the tribute act's use is harmless to a huge act like BJ, it may be that he pretty much needs to be able to say he stoped it, otherwise in the future a major act could steal their logo design and use as a defence "it's part of general popular culture, and been used by other bands before".
Don't get me wrong, in this instance it really sucks for fans, and for the tribute act who are clearly also fans, i'm just saying legally, it's a brand name and logo, and they have to do certain things to protect themselves in business.

Guess what the two biggest stories were at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards?
Actually I do agree! I guess i phrased it wrong. Bucket knows how to make a splash in the press. I was just worried that with his wierdness, the Axl's tendancy to rant/piss people off - that the band lacked an approchable person. Bucket and Axl are similar in that they're both attention drawing.
If Bumble, Fortus, Tobias, Finck, or Ashba went to these events, they'd have to create a crisis by holding the people hostage to get anyone to take notice.
Agreed as well..people like Fortus, Tobias, Ashba are the Izzy, Gilbys, and Duff to me...cool mofos who play well, but lack the star power that someone like bucket or slash has.
I do agree about bumble *at the moment* but my thing is I feel if pushed correctly he could be used far better. He's not going to be an attention guy like bucket or slash, but if he was to be seen with Axl a lot...release more music timley with Axl where he shreds a few memorable solos...then people would start to give a shit about him, and if they do that then he has the personality to really fix up GNR's image.
I dunno..perhaps the cause of all the problems is just too many guitarists in the family now. Bucket and a rhythm player would have been more than enough.
And even now Bumble and another player would be cool. Its hard for the guitarists to make a splash when they're part of a massive line up.
I know GNR is the new NIN so to speak. But it's little things that would help. A group photo. Stuff like that. Not going to happen. But I'd like to see it.
