Here's the obsticle - he's an indecisive, procrastinating, unprofessional musician.

IF that is true, and I do say IF IF IF, it might be worth considering that it could be factors beyond his control in his nature that cause it. If he suffers from real highs and lows in his mood, it could easily be the case that he does the best he can, and if that means some shows get cancelled, a record takes a long time, well - at least he kept on - and basicly you can only play in life with the cards you hold.

To me being an Axl fan is about enjoying his music regardless of all the other shit that goes on. I know there will be problems, delays, cancells, legal issues, riots, things that sre promiced that dont happen, all kinds of drama - but at the end of the day I like his songs enough that I can accept everything else as just an unavoidable part of his life - what counts is the music.

Second half of this song does give me hope actually, cool solo from slash. With the right front man this band would be so cool, there's definate chemestry in VR.

I want both.

Axl has very unusual, both in singing and writing, so I dont really want to see them get up there with like an Axl impersonator from a cover band type thing.

But that said - I think with scott they went too far away from Axl's edgier sound.

I'd like to see them with someone who can scream when needed, but also sing beautiful melodies the way Axl does - but it seemd last time anyone with such abilities was bounced for being too close to Axl.

So having a few Axl traits would be a good idea.

But to me this isn't the guy for the job, boring melodies, unoriginal vocals, no distinctive sounding voice - just didn't sound into it.

To be fair to Axl this release was clearly fucked up at an industry level well before he skipped interviews - my local store had no ideda the album was comming and refused to even try and order it back when the website was counting down. There were no posters etc. Compared to a band like Ac/Dc that has a similar market and had had an 8 year absence - the difference of promotion in store was clear - and those are things not done by axl.

The thing about Robin is he plays in a distinctive style.  You know it's his touch on the guitar.

I'll agree it isn't something for everyone....but I don't think he should be dismissed as a hack either....his use of phrasing, dissonance and his choice of slides and patterns...it's quite strange and unusual in a way.

I'm not sure it works in every song, I didn't like it on the old material, but when applied to the CD songs it's cool - it's really cool on Chinese Democracy, The Blues and in other places.

He isn't always kickass, like some players, but when he has a good moment, it's very good in my opinion.

Oh that does suck...at least you made it to one of the shows! Did they play lots of Death Magnetic Stuff?

This 'band' functions like a soccer team. Fans are excited that who should they sign or rid of and care more about the transfer market than the actual performance.

LOL..there's some truth to that...although I do care about the peformance a lot...but it's true that the very concept of certain - star line ups would make me giddy. Like the involvement of someone like John 5 or Bucket or people of that ilk with Bumble makes me think happy thoughts...lol

John 5 can also do some great blues work as well.  He's really quite a diverse player, it's just the bands that he plays in that holds him back.

Agreed....he's pretty capiable in every genre ever from what I've heard of his playing on solo records. He's amazing. So i'm sure he could play some awesome blues...but the question is...would he want to limit himself to just doing that....a role like bumbles is better suited for him - where he can do a bit of shred, a bit of rhythm...a bit of other stuff...

#8090 Re: Guns N' Roses » GnR holding audititons for a replacement for Robin? » 897 weeks ago

John 5 is awesome but he is a shredder and bumble has the shred duties covered.

to me it seems like they have:

- a shred guitarist/all rounder (bucket/bumble)
- a rhythm player (izzy/huge/richard/gilby)
- a blues guitar style lead player (slash/robin)

We know Bumble is still around, and I think Richard is as well, so this means the vacancy is really just for a bluesman - which John5 is ofcourse capiable of - but makes more sence to hire someone who specalises in that.

Someone like doug aldrich from whitesnake...or someone like that....a traditional blues style lead guitarist...as the shreddystuff is covered.
