Not that i know what Robin is thinking, or to put words in his mouth, but, i believe as time goes on, and the more crazy this things get, with the "interview" that just took place and the lack of reception of the album, he's probably less likely to return. What would be the upside for him?

I'm not sure...Robin seems to have avoided comment on Axl, which would be the thing to do to keep the door open, meanwhile Axl says it's the nature of their friendship that they chat when they have a project on. Meanwhile trent has announced he is putting NIN to sleep after the current dates this year. What will Robin do then? Why not give Axl a call and help him set up a GNR tour? Especially now he plays on a GNR album.  The upside is he gets to keep doing what he enjoys doing - playing live in a major act, and all the benfits that goes with it.

It looks as if whats irking Axl is that there is a growing consensus that he does need Slash, and he just can't deal with that.

I think what Axl needs is others at his talent level, and preferably, a guitarist that commands respect in musical circles. Slash does that because his blues playing is exceptional, Bucket does that because of his formidiable technique and unusual approach.

My opinion is that if new GNR had had more of the CD era material finished in the early part of this decade, if their 'return' had been marketed with a more traditional immage...(bucketheads unusal look is tough but catchy - but coupled with Axl's rap look and Robin's gothicy appearance at the time was too tough to sell all at once), and had they kept Bucket+Axl together as a cohesive unit - and maybe done some apperances together then the band would have received a lot more recgonition.

People will always miss the old band because they were iconic. I think anything with Axl + Slash would fly as GNR, and likewise I think if a similar Axl + Bucket relationship had been allowed to foster in the public's mind - through appearances together (even controversy or whatever) - and if bucket had been shown off better (simply shredding at the speed  of Notthingham Lace or Soothsayer alone would convince like 90% of rock fans you are cool - but instead his solo spot on the gig is him dancing and using ninja toys.) It could have worked.

Bands as good as old GNR don't just come along every 5 mins. There's very few people in the world with such good skills and chemestry. I think most of the delays were basicly Axl trying to find people he doesn't massively upstage.

He's managed to make a kickass album in the end! It's just a shame the pragmatics of that made it hard for the public to be presented with one clear version of what GNR is.

What rocker do you think is best downliner? I might give it another spin...when I first got it I had the impression that Time Bomb and 15 were heaps better...but I think I didn't play it much...i should give it more time!

I was thinking Bucket was collaborating with Bumblefoot.

That's called Chinese Democracy...they just were not in the same room when it went down!

They say any PR is good PR...maybe Axl calling slash a cancer or whatever he said will make more people go listen to the new album to see if he is right or full of shit.

It can happen. My first boot of the new band, I watched it basicly to justiy to myself by pre-existing assumption that a GNR without Slash would not work - then they played Maddy - and I realised how much potential there still is for great songs with any line up involving Axl.

I stand by my comments in the other thread, that it seems unhealthy mentally for both "camps" to remain so hostile to each other (holding onto hate only hurts yourself) even if they never work together.

However, I must say, I'm glad Axl is doing interviews and talking. It's always been the silence that I hated. We always knew he was pissed off about this stuff, and we wanted him to talk, and so its not so surprising that he's talking like this now - and to be fair to him - the questions get asked - maybe he's trying to move past them by being as blunt as possible. I think the kind of dipolmatic 'never say never' answers that slash and duff give only encourage us all to keep asking.

So anyway, while as a fan of the old band it's sad that it went down like this, it's good to see Axl with some fire back, releasing a record, doing interviews, plotting a tour...it beats him vanishing again! I'll take this!

This whole thing makes me sad.

I'm fine with Axl not wanting to work with slash anymore, but slash IS a KICKASS guitarist...musically speaking....and Axl IS a KICKASS singer..musically speaking...

I feel that with all this anger on both sides, it just detracts from the beauty of what they did together back in the day.

I hope VR find a new singer and make some good stuff, and I hope Axl finds peace and gives us some more music when the time is right too. All this anger towards the past is the real cancer to me. Not saying they should reunite..but they need to let go or sort it out. One of the two. It's not healthy like this in my opinion.

Awesome!

Looking forward to seeing what the line up is and what CD songs they do.

Hope this is the first of many shows.
