#8271 Re: Guns N' Roses » AXL Posting on GNR Forums! » 909 weeks ago
yeah I'd love it if axl could come on here and talk a bit about the epic making of this album or whatever he wants - I feel its a pretty mature conversation here too - like we couldn't get people posting just to insult and stuff like that.
#8272 Re: Guns N' Roses » AXL Posting on GNR Forums! » 909 weeks ago
Can I ask how do we know it's axl? I don't mean to be a tool but there's a lot of folks out there who'd play games just to prank. Did the mods there get something that proved it?
If it is Axl...i think it's great. GNR connecting with the fans like that would be really positive I think!
#8273 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Chart Positions Thread » 909 weeks ago
That's my worry at this point. For whatever reason it would appear Axl has washed his hands of this. Which is really a shame if so for many reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that it's really an awesome album.
I agree.
But...Perhaps there is a method in the madness.
I'm going to speculate wildly. And for the record i'm totally making this up as a daydream...
Maybe he puts this album out there, he get's his $14 million from best buy - so financially he doesn't need the album to peform well, by not giving interviews he not only doesn't have to go through the stress that interactions with media causes him, but he keeps an aura of mystery in his image which allows for promotion to the hardcore fan base of future products and also maintains an element of a mental "escape hatch" escuse if GNR crashes.
You don't have to worry that people might have judged your songs badly if you can say to yourself that they didn't buy the record because you didn't promote it. It gives ownership over the unownable mentally. (for the record I think the songs are great. I'm just saying - working at something for 14 years then being told its good or bad would be scary).
Meanwhile he could take a break to celebrate, find a replacement for robin, continue work on other works in the vault. And then make a media splash in 2009 or 2010 (or latter if with new material) with a new variation of the new lineups and just re-boot things. The media can then treat him like they did in 2006 as a "crazy recluse goes public" type stories that while a little "axl is odd" were generally excited and favourable about his return. The poor sales of CD would be a throw-away tag line at the end of an article - the same way any current article in 2006 or now says a line like "Axl who is controverisal front man and the last remaining member of the original GNR" type lines that are always in stuff.
The media loves a good comeback story. Imagine this in 2010..something like "GNR who's last album Chinese Democracy suffered disapointing sales results after making fans wait for 15 years, made a surprise apearance on (insert TV show) last night. Controversial front man and notorious recluse Axl rose, who hasn't given an interview in 3 years said the band will now (insert whatever)".
I'm not saying it will happen. But there isn't really any reason it couldn't.
#8274 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Revisiting Slash's Snakepit » 909 weeks ago
This album is everything CD is not. Its fucking ballsy as shit. Great riffs.. Hell, I even like Be The Ball.. HA, a shit load of great rockers... Slash's tone is killer. You know, Matt Sorum played his fucking ass of this album and I really like the bass of Mike Inez. Great band! Eric's voice is cool too. Slash isn't hold back at all on this album.
Yeah this album is more like I hoped VR would turn out. Like you listen to GNR, and you listen to this album, and you hear what slash is capiable of. While I like his more recent efforts a lot too, they are far more restrained than in Snakepit where he really was going nuts. Interestingly I think stuff like the alice record and his recent stage solos in VR and stuff show maybe a return to form is on the cards.
As to compare with CD. Well like its the other half of UYI3. I swear take 1/2 these tracks and add axl, then take 1/2 the ballads of CD and add Slash and you would have the real UYI3 that would be indistuinguishable from a 1991 record IMO.
#8275 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Scott Weiland Not Ruling Out A Velvet Revolver Reunion » 909 weeks ago
It seemed to me, as an outsider, that Scott got onto drugs again, and sort of got on a STP ego trip towards the end of VR. It was clear he was interested in a STP reunion months before it happened, he kept making refrences to it. Now, perhaps having got it out of his system, he might be more co-operative in VR. Then again, I doubt the VR guys would want to eat humble pie by returing with him, but perhaps once sufficent solo album type water under the bridge passed.
I just want to see some form of VR continue, or more particularly Slash and Duff and matt working together as they have so much chemistry. While he is no axl, I can't deny scott was written some good songs, and is a decent front man - so i'd welcome his return over the hiring of a scott-imitation front man. However, I'd also be VERY interested to hear VR with a Sebastianbach/Axl style front man - who would push them in a more intense direction. Obviously it wont be Axl or Baz - but if they could find the "next" guy like that....wow.
#8276 Re: Guns N' Roses » Irving Azoff: "No Reunion Planned" » 909 weeks ago
I'm actually positive about this news, even though like many fans from back in the day, there's always a candle in my heart for the old line up, but generally I think what upsets me about the band is the lack of updates at critical ventures. That we have a statement from managment to shoot down the rumours is a step forward for me.
Hopefully some time will pass and other things will happen. Perhaps an interview, or some shows or something, or work on a follow up. Any of those things would excite me.
I was thinking about this issue this morning and I realised that i'm just happy that Axl is back to making music and sharing it with people. Other stuff would be nice - but that we have the album is what's most important to me.
I wonder maybe if Axl has been absent as the process has been emotional to him? Despite the range on opinions on if he should have done what he's done over the years, it's clearly been a tumoultous journey for him. Immagine releasing something you've worked on for 17 years, showered with equal praise and critisim, poored your heart into and fought your personal demons over...just releasing it would have been intense I'd guess.
#8277 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Bitter, Snowblind Weiland Badmouths Axl (Again) » 909 weeks ago
yeah but if you are a celeb on stage you should know better than to make a small remark like that. He isn't at home in his lounge room.
#8278 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Bitter, Snowblind Weiland Badmouths Axl (Again) » 909 weeks ago
It's really annoying cos while I think Axl is a ton better than scott...it's not like scott hasn't written some ok songs over the years. So i want to respect them both - but when he does shit like this - I just think "urgh".
#8279 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Bitter, Snowblind Weiland Badmouths Axl (Again) » 909 weeks ago
Thanks
It's really odd that he would do so IMO too. I mean he really needs to get over it. Without getting too much into the Axl > Scott fanboy debate...just on anylevel - what is his issue with Axl? The VR boys are not currently playing with Axl. And scott is not in VR anymore. He currently has no connection to Axl or to anyone who used to have a connection to Axl. So move the fuck on already.
Actually I guess he's sensitive about it because the VR guys likened his bad behaviour to Axl at one stage...but it's just really lame of him. Just makes him look weak IMO.

I don't have audio where I am for a few hours, anyone tell me what he says?
