TSI is a great album! But it was always designed to tide us over before the next originals album could be made.

Great reviews people. I should do a track by track soon when it all settles in.
At first I missed the May solos on catcher...but then the new stuff from Ron is almost more kickass...I think the wierd thing about it is the mix...the paino at the start is down way too quiet.

I think people who are likely to be turned off will have already left due to the wait, the absence of slash, and the strange appearance of the 02 line up and other factors.
Although...in terms of maxamising the brand...I can see the logic that risky projects like this one could have been done under another name - thus protecting the brand to have a reunion before retirement to full effect. But that just shows Axl is doing this his way for his own reasons and not to a script or for $ alone.

Cheers to everyone. It's a special feeling after all the time and dreams we've all invested in this band and this album. Totally agree with Von too about the Cosmic Secret. Doesn't seem real. But it's a great day for fans and for rock music!
Cheers to the people who run this site, it's nice not to be alone in my obsession!! Thanks to all our fellow members who make this the site for educated GNR talkback and not just fights and lies. And thanks to Axl and the GNR family...who rose above all the controversy and delivered an album i'm going to cherish for years!!

Just curious how those of you who have the CD felt when you actually had it in your hand. Sigh of relief, excitement, was there a letdown knowing it's over?
I bought it Friday morning (21st) when my local JB finally got my preorder in. It was surreal to have it there to be honest. Like I kept looking at it sitting on my desk in disbelief.
I'm not disapointed because I love the songs and I would have been sad if Axl had gone to the grave keeping them, and we never got to hear a final version of these things.
However after years of listening to them ourselves...songs like maddy that were played live and leaked, it's wierd to me to think that they're finally public. You know...like when I talk about a song, say, Catcher in the Rye..or TWAT...it's no longer just something that only us few geeks will understand or know...now there is potential for "normal" people to have heard the songs too. And that, while awesome, will take some getting used to!

Tempting cos i really want that shirt.
It's a shit load of $ though...i mean CD alone is $19 at JB...which means at $129 they are adding on $110 for a Key ring, bandanna, belt buckle and shirt....given a shirt at a big show here is like $45...that brings it down to an extra $65 for a keyring and belt buckle...so i dunno....starting to stretch the freindship!
Then again...i love the album and I really want that shirt!!!
EDIT: Ahh fuck it...i should order this...i mean we waited like 15 years for this album...i should celebrate it!!

Though i haven't been watching much TV. It's just a wasted chance as I feel theres a large old-school hard rock crowd that would have given the thing a chance had they known it was out!

I havn't seen it yet. But Skelly told me that it's awesome. Mind you she had a few wild theories about it too...like that CD was delayed because Axl was bribed by economists who don't want to loose their control over the working classes or some such theory. sounded a bit extreme to me!

The man was out promoting CD more in 2006, when the album wasn't coming out, then he is now that it is.

Agreed. It is kinda unusual. I can see the logic of those who say the long term plan of azoff etc is to release this, then reunion and watch the dollars role. But I also think the time isn't quite right for that - that needs to happen AFTER the CD dust settles...not at the same time - otherwise Axl's baby could get dismissed in the media. Surely if slash rejoined they'd endlessly talk about he doesn't play on the album. If a runion was so close - it would have made more sence to bring him in when robin left for NIN - have him redo robins solos in 2 weeks (which is the kind of insane recording thing he does) then release CD. That didn't happen. Which makes me think the difficulties between them still exist - and that a reuinion is somethign that will one day happen - but it's time isn't due for at least another couple of years.
More likely to me Axl is going to grab a new guitarist. Pull out a couple of surprise small but awesome shows a little like he did in 06 in NYC. Maybe a new tour - then watch and see if CD does the numbers he'd like. If it's sucessful we may see some of the other hundreds of songs he's written with pitman and others.
