#8401 Re: Guns N' Roses » BETTER: second single CONFIRMED » 912 weeks ago
That's why this site is great - varied opinions - I love Death Magnetic. I understand what people are saying about the cut and paste riffing though - as I'll admit the songs do jump around and are structured strangely...but maybe its the guitarist in me - there's some damn fun riffs and cool shit going on in those songs. I found them hard to get into at first - like it took a couple of listens as opposed to something like the Black Album where the commerical nature of it grabs you in seconds - but once I got used to the sound of it - i'm really into a few of the tracks.
Ac/Dc was more of a disapointment to me. I like that they do the same thing always - as I see that as reliable and stable. And maybe i'll give it some more listens - but I just didn't quite think this the new record was as cool as the last ones.

Actually maybe GN'R could rock some VR stuff.
The Eagles did it. They played their set of classic together, then allowed solo sections for Don, Glenn & Joe to do some of their biggest solo hits. The main difference is most of their work, could tie in with The Eagles hits.
GN'R is WAY off. The CD & VR material is a long ass way away from GNR's back catalog. It might would kill the flow of a set.
I'm not sure if they'd ever do it...but in theory I could see that working. I don't think it would kill the flow any more than the solo spots in the 06 tour do. (I know there's always been solo spots but with so many band members in 06 it did start to break up the 'flow' of songs, like add breaks on TV!).
But I don't think the material is too far removed to work. The contraband songs like were a lot more guitar based than they sounded on the record..presumably for a 09 tour Axl will combine CD tracks with a few of the classic GNR hits from AFD. I see no reason why a song like "Do it For the Kids" can't replace somethign in the set list like "Out To Get Me" in terms of style...both of them will sound old school next to Shacklers Revenge tho....
I can't really see them doing it though...as which of Slash's and Duffs stuff would they choose? Like why only VR? Duffs solo record or loaded, Slash's Snakepit 1 and 2 - some of that stuff is better than VR...but I can't see them doing that..up there with GNR....it's why i think if they do a reunion they should try and write some new material...as trying to focus on the past will either mean we only get AFD stuff which while cool has been done to death lately...or we get a very difficult mix of things...

Aussie, that all depends upon the nature of performance. There were many above the shoulder looks that have been invaluable over the past decade or so. I think you may be surprised to experience one that has yet to be considered, yet one that you most certainly are comfortable with enjoying.
Does this mean bumble has some busting solos comming up...it may be 3.46pm here but i'm half drunk..so if anyone actually understands what he says LMK ok ?

Well...IMHO...it isn't GNR if you look at GNR as the entity that made like AFD and that kind of thing.
I mean bottom line to me is that bucket and slash are both guitar gods but they don't play or sound alike in terms of their natural prefered styles. ( i know bucket can play in a lot of styles - but my point is - in general he chooses to play in a different style - like you don't hear a track on the radio and go "hey that's slash playing" and then find out it's bucket.)
But my point anyway was that basicly this new band is a different entity in sound and vision to the traditional GNR. I mean old GNR was a 5 piece band in the style of like aerosmith...this new band is a ton of people in a ton of different styles. It's really not the same thing to me.
But that's not to say it doesn't kickass. I love the new record...i think CD is going to OWN. It's one reason the name debate frustrates me...this material to me is good enough to be out there on its own...and persisting in using the traditional name when you have 1/5 of the original band may be legal - but it introduces so much bullshit that distracts from how good an album it is.
I must say when VR went bang and then robin bailed...for a while i felt like god was trying to tell Axl and Slash something
But then these days a reunion would be bittersweet cos while we'd gain the originators of the AFD hits..we'd loose the new songs and the new shred style stuff that I also love...at this point its impossible for me to get everything i want!

oooo karma Slash. It's a bitch ain't it?
How is this karma for slash? For leaving GNR or firing Scott? What are you saying?

People bash Libertad but it's good songs are pretty good. It's just there is also a bunch of average stuff on there to go with the good ones and it got too scott heavy in sound. I think Slash and Duff and Matt should stick together and get some new members.
