anyway he doesnt say prostitute...it makes no sense in the context...to prove he would be true he will go be a prostitute? i mean c'mon guys 14

also here is the definitions of Prostitute

1 : to offer indiscriminately for sexual intercourse especially for money
2 : to devote to corrupt or unworthy purposes

obviously this song has nothign to do with definition #1...so lets go to definition #2...it doesnt really seem like a song about corruption or unworthy purposes....like i posted earlier...its more of an apology

This is where I will respectfully disagree.

Axl often writes songs using analogy, so if he writes a song called prostitute, especially post AFD, it's unlikely to be about an actual prostitute that he had an experience with.

I think he is using prostitution more broadly....to promote one's self or gain advantage at the expense of dignity and respect and honour.

I think the song suggests one or possbily both of two things:

1. That a girl (maybe steph) used the love he had for her for her own purposes and was not "true" about their relationship. Such as using the fame boost then walking out.

and/or

2. The irony of his love songs to her (and other girls) making him a fortune. Axl is a man who has been heartbroken at least twice, yet these events have made him millions of dollars, and provided the inspiration and muse for him to make music.

and/ or

3. The general concept of selling out and making sacrifices to your love...

Now to provide my lyrical evidence for these themes in the songs:

* "I Got A Message For You, Open Away, Its What I've Got To Do..." - I feel the use of GOT here in relation to opening up emotionally is relvent to the theme.

* "Give What You Have, For What You Might Lose" - again...trading something for something else...perhaps one if money and one is emotions

* "And What Would You Do If I Had To Deny, Your Name?" - The idea of denying a person's name is prominent in the new testament where one of the disciples (i forget which) is forced to deny the name of jesus three times to save himself, and this is after Jesus was betrayed for money by another disciple. I'm not much into religion, but theres a possible analogy there for what it's worth.

* "All that amounts to is...is Love That You've Paid For Fortune And Fame!". This could very easily be connected to the idea of prostituting your love. It basicly says it.

* "Ask Yourself, What I Would Do To Prostitute, Myself". If these are the lyrics here. I'll accept though that not everyone hears the word "prostitute" at this point. however even if it was "bring you down" it could still work with the established concepts of doing something for money already at this point in the song.

*To Live With Fortune And Shame - again...he's been sucessful with a broken heart...that he couldn't make the relationship work made him huge sucessess. How do you be sad about this when it's also soemthing that has brought you happiness in life.

So that's my reasoning on how the lyrics for this song are perfect for it being called "prostitue" smile

Be interested to know if you think i'm crazy or reaching too much etc.

I feel these words in addition to the other points previously made

*it's the only song missing from the setlist photos of the same vintage
* the "fire" and "ice" descriptions suit the chorus parts comapred to the verses.
*it has orchistration

make a reasonable case for the idea that it is prostitute.

Great post nemo...that paino is interesting..sounds like a hybrid of the paino parts in about 4 gnr songs to me...but not quite any of them completely.

why have we discounted song 2 being prostitute? Did i miss something offical from someone? Seems to me there is a very strong case for it being prostitute based on the thematic content of the lyrics....

I can't believe how many people are voting off maddy...its such an inspirational tune!

Me too.

I quite like If The World, its a catchy melody, but its the weakest on this list I think.

I really like track 2 - the vocal lines, lyrics and melodies...are awesome...I don't understand why everyone isn't into it. Such a powerful song to me. But each to their own smile

This is interesting..as I think Zakk himself would vote for Randy...in every interview i've seen with him he has been respectful of Randy to the point of idolisation.

They are both sensational guitarists...in a "shred off" I suspect that Randy would win as I remember his style as a little more fluid than Zakk. Randy uses such impressive legato runs and stuff like that. He is more of an all-rounder you could say. He is one of those people who's guitar technique is just scary. Then there's crazy train. What a song. Need I say more!

However Zakk has contributed so much to the Ozzy music. The trademark harmonics as part of the riff, the alternate picking madness...the all around attack, the wah wah on the bends while hitting the strings so hard they scream out....then I think No More Tears...the Miricle Man solo....and some of the great music on the Black Rain..album...there is no doubt in my mind Zakk is some kind of GOD.

There needs to be a "draw" button.

I'm going to go with Zakk. Massive love and respect for Randy - as he paved the way - was a huge inovator, a role model to Zakk himself, and clearly a guitar legend from his riffs and solos..so i have nothing but praise for him......but Zakk is who got me into Ozzy...(Randy having died when I was 4.5 years old!)..his presence is amazing, his skills are amongst the best in the world...and he's just taken the torch that much futher down the road for us.

Hmm..i'm in a bind cos I love Track 2 - i think the vocal melody is classic Axl. Although I think of the leaks it does sound a bit more unfinished than the others.

I'm going to vote for "If the world" - I like it - but not as much as the rest.

#9037 Re: Guns N' Roses » Riyadh and the Bedouins leak » 932 weeks ago

Interesting...I liked the lyrics to OMG smile

I found both of them "growers" on me...like I didn't like OMG or Riyadh when I first heard them...but once i got used to the...umm...unconventional...nature of them now I'm getting into them.

#9038 Re: Guns N' Roses » Riyadh and the Bedouins leak » 932 weeks ago

Well...i have to say this track is starting to grow on me.

I really disliked it when I first heard it, which is unusual for me, as i've liked pretty much all of the other 'new' gnr tracks immediately over the years.

However I've listened to it quite a lot more now, and its been a slow-grower - but I now enjoy parts of it - really like the buckhead madness at the end.

One thing i'd be interested to know however, I know a lot of people on the boards seem to dislke "Oh My God", and it seems Rhiad has a lot of support....what do you guys feel? To me OMG and R+B feel like companion songs...similar style - unorthodox structure, guitar madness, manic feel and drumming etc....

just my 2c

Just what "evidence" would that be? There's absolutely nothing to indicate that it is Prostitute. The chances of this being Prostitute is like 40 to 1.

The case for it being prostitute is:

1. Prostitute was described as a "fire and ice" song - the changes at 0:59 then 2:11 and 3:44 sound like that description would fit.

2. The lyrics as a whole deal with selling out, paying for love, and swapping love for fortune and fame.

3. Some people hear the word prostitute at 3:52. While initally i wasn't one of them, I thought it was "bring you down", the lyrics make perfect sence with it being prostitute, and axl often says words strangely in songs, and I could easily see it being that word. In any case the overtheme of the lyrics deal well with the idea that steph and or Axl have/would be prostituting their love and getting rich as a result. (in axl's case making music, and in stephs from the fame boost she got at the time).

4. The set list photo had prostitute listed...every other song from that set list was on the same CD.

5. I think the setlists became heavy on AFD to compensate for the idea of fitting another ballad of this kind into the set list. It may have been dumped in the end because it was too many ballads.

Obviously your welcome to a different opinion...but in the absence of any other info it seems to me the case for it being prostitute is pretty compelling...the only things I know against it being it are:

1. The magazine guy says its not. (i hadn't heard of this till the post above..so i can't comment on the likely hood of this being accurate yet. Like if the dude writing the article about the leaks knew what he was talking about or not.)
2. People on the forums got so excited about the track they just demand somethign they like more as is.
