I think the Singer has a cathcy voice..the kind of thing you hear on the radio
#9172 Re: Guns N' Roses » AFD on this week's Billboard Top 200... » 939 weeks ago
More than underrated, the Illusions are Guns defining album, bruised egos and all. I see YCBM on a semi-regular basis on Metal Mania. Still badass to this day.
I agree...although AFD will always be one of the most important albums in rock history, I think the Illusion albums and tour are what many casual fans associate with GNR. They think Axl in bike pants and big outfits and they think massive stadium rock and they think November Rain.
November Rain, like Sweet Child of Mine before it is one of those cross-over songs that allows people that arn't into metal and hard rock - the pop people - to get into the band...especially girls.
YCBM is a fucking awesome song too.....it was huge being with t2 to people of my age...but its such a fantastic hard rock song...

Ok...I got:
*Bring Em Back Alive - Audioslave. It's actually one of my favourite audioslave tracks so i'm pretty pleased with that choice.
* Wild Wild West - Will Smith. Although i wouldn't consider myself a rap fan in general the occasional Will Smith tune is kinda a guilty pleasure for a guitar head like me! this isn't one of his best ever but its ok.
* Miseducation - Frameshift. This is an album I got cos Baz was on it, and I'll be honest...i haven't really listened to it all that much..i got it at the same time as a few other CDs and it kinda got burried in my collection....its a mix of baz' awesome vocals with some more progressvie style metal. Its hard for me to adjust to it cos i'm more of a hard rock or classic 80s metal kinda guy..and this is somewhere in between. Listening to the track now..its ok...but not as cool as Angel Down style stuff to me.
*Bust a Move - Young MC. hahah...for all your 80s classic needs. For some reason my itunes random seems to pick this song more often that randomness would suggest...
*Sailing - Rod Stewart. Got this after I heard Axl's cover as I wanted to hear the orginial. Its definately a beautiful song - but I must say I loved the really high pitch that axl sang it in more...i'd love to hear a studio version of that.
*Essence - Steve Vai. This is on a double album of his I got. To be honest i've never heard it before I must always skip it. I really love certain songs from vai when he plays in particualr style. But all instrumental songs tend to bore me except when they're in a style of guitar playing I really like. Shame it didnt pic one my my favourtite vai tracks and I could rant about that.
*Kiss - Prince. Great song...love the vocals and the funky guitar..just never ages.
*Dog - Whitesnake. Whitesnake are an interesting band, awesome guitar work...and a singer with awesome vocal range almost ala Baz and Axl...but sadly terrible songwriting and lyrics. This is one of their new tracks with the new lineup - who have truely scarely skills on guitar. This is about what i expect from a whitesnake tune...kinda catchy, purile lyrics with puns that that sound like they were written by a 13yo..yet impressively sung....but with guitar solos so hard they make you want to quit guitar and worship.
Anyway that's prob enough for now! We have to leave before it picks a Disney Princess Christmas Album song... LOL.....
#9177 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Starts...(Rumored GH Re-Release in June) » 939 weeks ago
Ok...now i'm pulling this out of my ass...but like rather than evade his deal...might this not be a wind-up to actually releasing Chinese Democracy? Like couldn't hurt to remind a causal listener why GNR was a good band...then release a new album...a few months after. A GH album isn't for the fans like us who already have all the records. Its either gets bought by those reliving their youth who dont follow the band - who then might pick up the new album for the hell of it after re-enjoying the tracks they grew up hearing...or by new kids who might check it out cos they've heard their parents talk about the band (same reason I checked out the beatles as a kid)...if they then dig the music then they might be interested to hear a CD follow up.
Not saying it will happen.
But It helps to keep the brand alive I'd have thought.

monkeychow, I was there for that argument. It was one of my last visits to the site before I totally abandoned ship. I have nothing against Jarmo as a person. We keep in touch on MySpace, but I don't care for what his site's become and I've told him that. It is what it is.
Yeah I should add that I don't have anything against him as a person either. At the end of the day we're both GNR and music fans and that's what counts. But i much prefer conversations here I think
#9179 Re: Guns N' Roses » Duff says that a one-night GN'R reunion is possible.. » 939 weeks ago
If you watch the video..is edited to hell so much you can't even tell what duff said. It sounds almost like they've grouped his answers on 3 or 4 questions together. Like part of it he is clearly talking about band communication and how they communicate musicly..and its edited to look like he is talking about Axl.
Clearly just a silly video.
Good fun find though
#9180 Re: The Garden » Ha, I just got banned from HTGH » 939 weeks ago
It's a shame what's happened to that place. It used to be a good site.
When you look at the the censorship, the Slash bashing, and all the rest you can see a pattern. Jarmo is a man afraid of loosing his contact with the band, and so he will say or do anything in order to have the apperance of total loyality to axl. No matter how irrational or incorrect.
Example: He told me that the Chinese Democracy australian tour was not being promoted as a Chinese Democracy tour. All while i was holding a ticket in my hands that read "Chinese Democracy" for a melbourne Show!!!
Thankfully we have this site now, where people can be fans...but don't feel the need to lie to themselves to be such.
