This does seem promicing huh!

Since they turned Baz down in the beginning, I don't see them going back to him. I hope to god that Baz isnt the new singer. He wasn't the style they were looking for 5 years ago and I don't think he is what they are looking for now. I could be wrong but thats just my opinion.
Your probably right.
Although I live in a fantasy land where VR decide that contraband and libertad was enough of grunge and post-grunge style rock, and go back to a Slash's Snakepit 1 or Appetite sound with Baz going his best Axl imitation on the vocals.
Dave meanwhile litterally burns his guitar pedals down realsing that effects arn't the way to go...Suddenly he retires...allowing Izzy to record with the band, and Gilby to fill in for him on tours.. LMAO

I'm kinda the opposite to Nemo in that I'd like to see it happen, but I'm not sure its truely likely. I'll grant that phone thing with Baz fits the timeline nicley - but i'm not too sure I can see it happening. The last part of that interview where where he says "Scott should come up with something more imaginative" sounds a bit like a denial to me. Maybe its just cos its not cemented yet though.
As for the songwriting. I think scott leaving, regardless of who joins, could inject some fresh chemestry and ideas. While I like some of scots songs especially his hooks, his lyrics are not always the best and he does get repedative. My real problem with his sound though is that it always seemed to me like a dubious match with the rest of VR. Consider when he said slash and izy have him 2 full CDs of riffs or whatever and that they all sucked...hard to believe...
#9304 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Velvet Revolver "fires" Scott Weiland » 945 weeks ago
You might be right. I seem to recall he wasn't chosen last time because the music sounded too much like Skid Row with him singing.
Not that skid row isn't call, but i think the guys want to put their own new unique stamp on stuff rather than create psyudo GNR or Skid Row kinda songs. Shame cos i'd prefer some GNR or Skid Row material to most of the modern stuff. IMHO vr's best songs are the ones closest to their old sounds...
#9305 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Other singers who auditioned for VR » 945 weeks ago
So the ones with "declined" - means they declined an offer from slash and co to join?
#9306 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Velvet Revolver "fires" Scott Weiland » 945 weeks ago
OMG...i can only hope its true.
I know some will say that it will dismiss them to being a nostalga band and that sort of thing. But to be honest...while I do like VR, at times with minimising of Slash, the repedative structures of scott, it was all so modern sounding...and there would be no harm in the band (well slash, matt and duff) going back to the sounds that made them famous. They could still push the envelope and do new material without loosing their best traits.
With sebastian at the helm would be awesome. He has the power to deliver screams and such similar to Axl, yet, unlike a 200x scremo band leader, he can also actually sing and is quite musical. There would be a lot of potential for good music.
I suspect Kerang is just going off interent rumours and scotts comments though.
I'm susposed to see Sebastian on May 22 - be awesome if he announced something at the show...(sounds dumb but he gave away thay he'd be back with GNR when he played a solo show here last - and before that tour was official...so he isn't against occasionally sharing the knowledge)
#9307 Re: Guns N' Roses » Small CD mention by Sean Beavan (from '06) » 945 weeks ago
I think it makes sence when your famous that you would go with advice from friends and so forth. Like its not like axl wants to put an add in the newspaper and interview 100 people a day. (even though VR did!) So you'd be limited to the incestious circle of professional musicians and their buddies....
#9308 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Velvet Revolver "fires" Scott Weiland » 945 weeks ago
Ok im feeling calmer now! LOL
The other thing about making these kinds of comments...is all it does is alieniate fans.
Like surely a bunch of people who like scott and stp, also like VR (and wont just start hating the other memebers), or like sebastian or axl or the old GNR songs. I dunno i feel the same about the slash vs axl debates...i personally love both.
So i feel the same here. I like original GNR, i like the leaks of the new gnr, I like VR, I like STP, I like sebastian...pisses me off when they talk trash about each other!
#9309 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Velvet Revolver "fires" Scott Weiland » 945 weeks ago
Another fuckhead statement from scott.
It was lame when he took a shot at Axl years ago. And its lame when he has a shot at VR here. Its a shame he has to make comments like this because I do like some of his singing.
This is my take on it:
1. The reference to guitar hero isn't funny. all it does is make him look jealous that slash is a bigger star than he is. Maybe he considers it selling out. Whatever. The reality is that slash is in that game because he is one of the defining guitar players of his generation. Weiland needs to deal with that.
2. Calling themselves a gang. Well yes...you know maybe Slash and Duff did do that. That's probably because they lived on the streets in LA, doing drugs, getting into fights, Stealing stuff. they basicly were a gang in the old days. Not everyone is pretend. These people lived hard lives. Other members of that gang included Axl, Izzy and Steven. Scott might know them if he thinks about it, a little band called GNR that sold a fuckload more records than his candy ass ever will. Deal with the jealousy scott.
3. The refrence to Sebastian. I assume this is supossed to imply that they are stuck in the 80s and retro and old and whatever else. You know what - while sebastian's style isn't for everyone (some people love his metal sound and others find it cheesy) - there is no question he is technically very proficient. He has a much stronger voice than scott, and also has a wider range of notes he can hit. Sebastian has sung on broadway. So I think it might be time for scott to shut the fuck up here as well. Futhermore...sebastian is playing here in melbourne in 2 months, and was here last year with GNR. Did scott make his VR show in Australia? Oh no...that's right...he was so drugfucked the tour had to be cancelled twice.
STP have a few songs I like. But he damn well needs to learn some modesty and have some respect for other artists, and well, just learn to SHUT THE FUCK UP!
#9310 Re: The Sunset Strip » Radiohead offers fans chance to remix... sort of » 945 weeks ago
I'm not a fan of either band actually. But I don't think $5 is all that bad. Most bands won't allow fans access to stuff like the master tracks...so its nice of them to let you do it.
As for the rights perspective...well...what if they didn't - someone could release a song the band wrote but with just the parts in a slightly different order and make $$ off it? Wouldn't br right. This kind of releasing stuff should be just for the fans to have a bit of fun, not profit off the band.
So yeah...that's my 2c in defence of it
