Cool!

Looks like Another Brick In The Wall might be e regular! Nice!

Hope they start playing Prostitute again! Even though the clips I've seen of it seemed to be a bit off, it's still one of my favourites from CD....

Not much activity, considering there was a gig yesterday.

Is something wrong with the site...?

Do we know someone who is tweeting from the Asia and Canada gigs?

^ No doubt

Trent Reznor has been doing this for some time now. And his philosophy seems to be: "give the fans all they can eat, that's the way to build goodwill and get people to the shows where we actually make some money"

From what I understand, new bands that gets signed today has to split the money that touring and merch brings in WITH the recordlabel.

It might be that GNR are under an "old" contract, that leaves the label with zero income during touring. So they prolly go: "Why would we wanna support something that doesn't generate any cashflow our way"

Once something new is released, it's basicly free anyway for people who don't wanna pay up.

And seeing how much money Universal has thrown at GNR during 1994-2008 and how they barely found a way to recoup that money, I can understand that they would wanna "limit their losses"....

Sad for us fans! But it is what it is!

Edit to add: go to diggdialog.com and watch the interview Kevin Rose did with Reznor. A good interview with lots of good arguments regarding recording-artists in the digital age!  smile

A lot of people/fans assume that it is entirely up to Axl/GNR when it comes to releasing music, either live or studio recordings. Either as official products for sales in stores or, as Nine Inch Nails does, as free downloads on torrent-sites.

Axl/GNR is under contract, Trent Reznor is not. And being under contract basicly means that Axl is given money to record music for the label. The label then has the right to distribute that product as they see fit. And we all know that convincing a recordlabel that giving away music/video for free is a smart buisness-model, is not the easiest thing in the world. Sadly!  sad

I've made it quite clear, if Axl changes up that setlist with alot more of CD, and especially UYI, he'll win me back on his side within seconds.

Yeah, because a person who visit fansites daily really needs to be won over...

It just dawned on me yesterday that these Asian dates are in fact right around the corner! So I'm very excited!

Not expecting Axl to look any different, but then again he changed his "look" quite a bit from 02 to 06. From the baggy sport-outfits in 02 to more like a biker-rock-dude in 06. So we'll see...

According to the info from rehearsals we'll be getting a few "new" songs from CD, which I think is great! But no doubt they will play the old hits from the back catalog, to be realistic, it's what 80-90% of the crowds are there for.
Just like all other bands with massive hits tend to do.... No biggie!

If the reported stage-setup is in fact true, looks like the production-side of the show has been given more attention this time around! Cool!

The wishfull-thinking part of brain is also silently hoping for one or two new unheard songs....  smile

At least they went ahead and actually posted the info. Surprising actually since the site is in limbo with all that MLB crap.

Axl should join Twitter. Would be a really simple way to update even the most casual fans.

Once in a while I wonder why Axl is NOT on Twitter....

He has countless times complained about the media twisting stuff around. Twitter would be a good outlet for him to say what he wants without the middleman...

But it wouldn't surprise me if Axl thinks using Twitter is "selling out"....
And when I think about it, reading Axl's tweets everyday would kill a lot of the mystique that surrounds him as an artist.

We're starting to see some artists/bands/celebrities using Twitter more and more as a way to get their products across than to actually say something interesting  21

I don't "know" by any means.

But I think the main difference is that most leaks are from albums that are about to come out.  Finished, discs pressed, just sitting on a shelf waiting to come out.  The GNR leaks were of songs still being worked on, which is much more rare.

That's my impression as wel...

Imagine you're a famous painter and you're working on a new piece of art and someone breaks into your house, takes a picture/copy of your unfinnished work and spreads it to the world saying "Hey guys, look! It's the new painting he's been working on for 15 years!!"

If you're the artist, you would most likely be upset and go: "WTF!? It's not even done yet, and the picture/copy is of crappy quality.... Who the fuck did this to my precious!!?? Where's my legalteam?!" 17

It seems to be a different story when the art is 100% done, pressed and ready to be shipped around the world....

Early sketches and rough drafts contain an energy, sponteniety and integrity almost always lost in the final product.

Ask any illustrator and they will tell you that you can never re-crerate that initial thumbnail in the final version. It's just the organic quality of that gesture or stroke you can't duplicate. Same thing with any musical instrument. Thats really half of CD's problem right there, isn't it?

When I was in art school I would always walk around and survey the works in progress- paintings, sculpture, architectural models, whatever. Quite a few artists work openly, and the creative performance is as much a part of the process as the final composition. Sometimes even more so. Not everything has to be shrouded in secrecy.

In fact, I almost always listen to GN'R, Nirvana and Alice in Chains demos and live performances over the album versions. Those musical sketches are glory to my ears.

But then I like real cream cheese as opposed to processed cheese.

So, yeah, bring on the work in progress, please.

I get what you're saying about live performances...

Often when I want a dose of GNR, I watch the Blu-Ray from Gibson Amphitheatre from '06. Outstanding performance!!

I know I'm a bit of a hypocrit when it comes to leaked material. As a hardcore fan, my curriosity takes over. But I can also understand the artist wanting to control when and how his art is exposed to the world.

To me, a live performance and the final album are kinda two different things. But I don't share your passion for demos... Sure I listened the crap out of the demos before the album was released, but I don't find myself going back to the them nowadays and I'm pretty sure a majority of hardcore fans do the same. Same thing with bootleg videos. Ones GNR officially release a high quality live Blu-Ray/DVD, my bootlegs will start to gather dust in a closet somewhere...

If GNR releases a new album next year and in the store you HAD TO choose between the finnished product with artwork, pictures and lyrics or a CD-R with rough demos and in this bizzare scenario you would forever be stuck with one or the other.  You would go for the CD-R?
