well, that's the two approaches of the fans - some prefer the classic Guns, the others like the "NewGNR" changes smile

I'm the odd ball who likes everything. Slash is my favourite guitarist ever so I prefer him in GNR, but at the same time I really enjoyed Chinese Democracy and I like a lot of extreme guitar stuff like Bumble and Bucket play.

Yeah I might be in the minority but I thought BF contributions improved the songs mostly.

Like his version of the Catcher solo took that melody and made it consistent with the rest of the CD album so it didn't sound out of place. Admittedly the demo of catcher is generally better but I think thats to do with the piano mix rather than the guitar IMO.

His riffing on the title track main riff kicks ass.

His solo on SR is cool and I kinda like his Rhiad solo too.

I liked that we ended up with both Bucket and Bumble on there. Now imagine a line up with both of them live :0

I've got

t-shirts from 2002 (imported), 2007, 2010 and 2012.
the tab book
the CD of course
A4 size aussie tour poster from 2010

Chinese is one of my favourite records despite all the controversy.

As for Ron.

I think he wasn't used well in GNR.

It would have been interesting if they'd just had Ron and Richard and let him handle all lead guitar duties.

He's a much better guitarist than Robin and DJ so it's odd to make him take a back seat and only tag in for a quick sweep or tap here and there. I would have liked to see him do some of the slower parts too. I think then he would have had more of a chance to impress.

He's also a great guy. I've met him a few times and done some music stuff with him. Can't praise him enough.

I liked that DJ tried to play the songs closer to Slash than Robin did.

To me the way Robin altered them was kinda disrespectful to the classic guitar solos. I'd feel the same if Myles Kennedy had started adding different verses to the GNR songs.

DJ isn't Slash and Myles isn't Axl. But their versions were respectful to the proper arrangements at least.

I wasn't so keen on DJ's stage presence...the hat and the general slash-style posturing. it works for Slash...felt awkward with DJ. That said I've met DJ and he's a nice guy, I just think his stage persona was more suited to Motley than GNR. He would have been good replacing Mick Mars live if Motley had decided to continue on once mick's heath made it impossible or something like that. But in GNR he didn't seem to fit...the playing was ok...but the persona not so much.

I do believe Axl might have hired DJ for his studio tricks though - he did a lot of Motley Crew's "Saints of LA album" and of course Sixx:Am. He's handy in the studio.

Corporate America is just a game.  All you have to do is understand that and the game is pretty easy.  They use you; you use them right back.  They can fire you at any time, but you can also leave at any time if you're good because your skills will be in demand.

In Australia this works until a certain age...but then if the company decides it doesn't need you and you are late 40s or 50s it is remarkably hard to get that next position.

HR seem to start taking a long term view of their investment - and it's better value to shape and mould a young person than it is to deal with an older person who may not be as agile to new policies and any-retraining that comes up and will need to retire soon anyway.

Even a wealth of experience somehow gets painted into a negative as they're looking for 'fresh blood' in the industry.

I've met an absolute ton of people around 60 who were basically made redundant somewhere around 50 and are spending the last 10-15 years of their working lives under-employed, unemployed, or working some low level job like cashier that had nothing to do with their (previously executive middle-management) type skills.

Maybe it's different in the USA. But over here...once you're in your late 40s i'd be worried about being seen as too disposable...

As a video? Are we talking about the 2010 proshot stuff for the doco that never surfaced?

Also while I'm pestering you - can you provide any other information about the TIL remix.

TIL is one of my favourite songs, and I was blown away by the snippet of the remix how the vocal track was a different take and more raspy in that section. What is the rest of it like?

Thanks smile

That list is accurate except some people have item 36-40 in full not just as excerpts.

#940 Re: Guns N' Roses » LEAKS THREAD » 445 weeks ago

In fairness though it's pretty frustrating to think there's good quality copies of the This I Love remix, Silkworms and OMG around that only some people have.

Trolling won't get us anywhere...but I do wish there was a reasonable way to obtain them, I really like those songs and would love proper versions.

I wish people who have them would specify what they want...or is it just fun to have something that others don't.
