It didn't take off the way they thought it would and they don't see alot of fear leaving, especially knowing Tommy will survive and Richard has all kinds of high-profile jobs he can fill in on (Rihanna).

They want GN'R to work, but I think they come across as incredibly bored. They, like us, are sick to death of Axl pushing CD. They're ready to move on or else imo.

Personally I wouldn't expect it to happen before late 2012 at the earliest and that's unlikely given it's gnr.

It takes a major label 3-6 months to set up for a big release after it's delivered to them ready to go.

So working backward...build in another month or two to play with mastering and different mixes. Then add in a few months of negotiations and sorting out a deal and the absolute best case is about 1 year away from today. And that's pretty unlikely considering many of those factors (negotiations, tinkering with mixes etc - are likely to be things that Axl would take longer about than some others.) Build in that he doesn't consider the songs complete with out some more musical additions and that blows out the whole timeline indefinitely.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hopeful that eventually we'll see a new album, I'm just saying I can't imagine going into a store and picking something up any earlier than Nov 2012 - and to be honest given it's GNR i'm expecting it's more like recording is done in 2012, negotiations in 2013 for a release in 2014.

To me we're probably at a similar place as we were in the 2006 tour..mostly done recordings....with an album that came out in 2008..

Anyhow, if Richard is minimal sounding it's probably because he's a realist and knows that GNR plans are fluid, and because he knows he isn't GNR spokesperson so doesn't want to say anything to tread on Axl's agenda, and, because he knows if he makes a direct statement about the timeline people like us will hold him to it and start shit if it doesnt happen!

whatever timeline there is, it won't happen. Sorry, it won't. And consider the fact that you have your housekeeper as a spokesperson for the band, mmmmmmmmmm....no.

Best bet is that Axl/Fernando/Beta fuck up things with the label so bad that they finally get dropped. However, main issue is, even then, Uni owns the masters of everything recorded up through Chinese. Unless in an act of mercy, Uni let's Gnr take the chinese recordings as an olive branch to avoid any potential litigation (which is what happened with Wilco during the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot debacle). Don't know the details, but there has been a problem for 15 years so I don't see an easy out for any party. Throw in the value of the back catalog and you have a good old fashioned stalemate. Axl can wait it out and so can the label. The gravy train has already been oiled up and sent down the track.

I don't really get that sense.  Well, I agree they would like to move on and release more music.  But I don't get the sense that the band members are going to give Axl Rose an ultimatum and tell him he better release an album next year or they'll split.  They've persevered all this time, why jump ship now?  Wouldn't make any sense.  They'll continue to do what they've done in the past.  Have GNR as their top priority, but work on other projects during down times.

Not sure why people believe 2012 is a make or break year for the band.  They haven't broken to this point.  What's another year?

Because GN'R have already maxed out touring CD. They did the U.S., post-CD's release and that's it. It's done deal. If they head back to Europe playing this setlist it'll be DOA, and suddenly Axl will lost "the world" which was his backbone with the lack of America. The only reason Axl is touring the states with the poor attendence numbers he has is because Azoff is backing him.

Tommy Stinson is not in GN'R to tour the old band's songs for the rest of his life, even if he is getting older. It's just not his makeup. This guy has an "old Gun" mentality.

What alot of people don't know is that Tommy is the glue to the actual band. Axl Rose doesn't have jack shit to do with these guys short of 3 hours at the show each night, then he fucks off to his hidey hole. The band talks about all of this communication with Axl, but the reality is Axl texting them "jokes of the day" doesn't make a band, or a future for THIS band.

Stinson has been aching for a new album for awhile now, and to at least get everyone in a room to actually work and Axl puts it off and puts it off and puts it off, "we'll see", "we'll see".

Tommy is over that, i'm telling you. Axl has to appease him, because the rest of the band follows his leadership mentality.

2012 will see the reunion talk for GN'R turned up to it's biggest proportions ever. The iron will be red hot, and the world (maybe not diehard nerds, but ACTUAL fans) will be begging for it, as well as former band members.

Axl's gonna have to do something with or to these guys to reassure them, especially guys with tenure like Tommy to say "no, THEY WERE Guns N' Roses. WE ARE Guns N' Roses, and despite all the naysayers, here's what we're gonna do".

So Axl's gonna go, in theory, perform with the old Guns at the RNRHOF, then go home, sit, not talk to the new band, and wait for the next tour or when he FEELS like recording?

I don't see it. I just don't. With no new album in sight, Tommy will walk. If he walks, Richard will walk. Ron's playing hurt. If he goes down, what will happen with Frank? Chris is a wildcard. Axl's really gonna recast the entire new band around Dizzy & DJ in 2012-13?

New album with current band

Reunion with old band

GN'R dead forever

All will be decided in 2012. And I personally think "new album" is the LEAST likely possibility.

I'm sorry, but I've heard the, "this band is dead in the water" argument a hundred times over.  I'm just not about to buy it NOW.  You can keep saying it and maybe eventually you'll be right, but until then, this band will continue doing what they've been doing.

If they do tour Europe AGAIN without new music, successfully.  I'm sure you'll come up with another, "it's now or never" theory for them.  I'll set my watch to it.

If by chance, you are right, I'll be here to take the "I told you so's".

I agree. GN'R with whatever replacement line-up can always fill stadiums in SA, play full arenas in the Far East, headline festivals and play smaller arenas in Europe and play in half empty (half full) arenas in the US. So fianancially the money will be there.

I don't think that after all these years of inactivity and tribute tours any of the band members would bail, just because Axl wouldn't want to do anything in 2012. It's a good job for them: they don't need to do too much, play the usual songs with 3-4 additions every 3 years, that's it. I think Axl's start/stop/start/stop etc. recording process is more of a headache.
These guys earn a lot, and nobody would gurantee them a job with better conditions. Face it, they are not rock music's Lionel Messi and Xavi. If they can do something new, something artistically inspiring, the better. But they are quite comfortable with sitting at home, watching dvds and playing with minor side projects. They know it's Axl's band, he calls the shots, and they are fortunate and replecable employees. None of them would quit for artistic reasons. No. Way.

Yeah to be honest things seem less likely to die this year than in many other years to me.

I mean I got an email today from GNR offering live streams for the show, and ability to buy backstage tickets and so on. Band's done a whole USA tour....back in 2004 that would seem like a dream sequence. Seems Axl's getting his ducks in a row to me smile

Can you imagine that? GN'R sent out a community MAILING letter.

The fucking hell?

I was shocked too. It was a discount coupon code for all of us who bought the iClips show on the 27th, to buy the 30th show tomorrow.

Probably the coolest internet thing I think they've ever done.

So pretty much the "new band" fanbase here at Evo would totally erase Tommy Stinson, Richard Fortus, Ron Thal, Chris Pitman & Frank Ferrer tomorrow

Dude your posting to a community of people that accepted the loss of Steven Adler, that moved on and accepted the loss of one of the major songwriters Izzy, that did the unthinkable and stayed around after the loss of the fucking holy power of the GNR guitar assault Slash and Duff. We're folks who looked the other way when new faces like Gilby Clarke and Matt went the way of the dodo. We rolled eyes as Robin Fink headed off back to an active band, and Brain swapped to doing session drumming. Then you're chatting to people that accepted the loss of one of the most technically brilliant guitarists of all time Buckethead....are you seriously surprised that people now wouldn't wince at the idea of an all new GNR line up in 2015? Come on - you know as well as I do that to many any GNR line up that's not the originals is an abomination - why does it matter if it has 15 toes or 11 fingers or 2 noses...either way it's not normal and it's not classic GNR and people are either going to bail on that - or be like those of us that like it for what it is anyway and accept it - but once you accept it regardless you're in for life..and down for whatever.

I follow GNR because I think Axl is a creative genius. I think his voice is sublime. His emotional lyrics and ability to harness some kind of musical other  worldliness is nearly unparalleled. And his use of melodies is amazing and beautiful. I follow GNR for Axl.

That said...I love the current guys too. I think frank is a beast of a drummer. I think DJ writes killer riffs in Sixx Am, bumble blows my mind with his shred skills...I'd love for them to stay in GNR and I'll gleefully buy anything they release...

So i hope it doesn't happen..I hope they stay and release some albums...but if the worst came to the worst and they all quit...well I was still in interested in what Axl had to say musically when Izzy, Slash and Duff - the architects of the GNR sound (with Axl)  quit...so I don't think I'd be ending it all over the current line up giving up on him.
