Yeah I understand what you mean. Especially with St. Anger. So the show is now available to stream and mp3 download once you sign up for their website and mailing list.

Where do you see it's available for an MP3 downloaded?  I just signed up on the Metallica website and can't find it.  I just see the live stream, and a link to pre order the CD.

Edit - nevermind, I found it, but they're charging $10 for the MP3 download.

Wow...that sucks. Didn't know that detail. I apologize for missing that.

No worries bro - if I really wanted it I could have paid the $10.   It's cool that their making it available though - hope GNR is taking notes.

I don't think you need to be a guitarist to hear that Kirk's timing was off and he hit dud notes too.

Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention, downside of steaming a concert, I was web surfing while watching it. :-/

Another thing about the concert - they showed off a new stage, sign that they're ready to tour again soon?  James did mention the album was almost ready.

I've always hated the snare drum sound on St. Anger, so I was pleased to find this on youtube:

Per the description, it's a rerecording by another band.

I was also pleased to find this:

Now if the remastered Kill 'Em All sounds good..  I'll be all set with my Metallica wishlist, lol.

Metallica announce massive box sets for their first two albums

US heavy rockers Metallica‘s first two albums, 1983’s Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning (1984), will be reissued as enormous ten and 11-disc box sets (respectively) this coming April…

Both albums have been remastered (as you might expect) and form but a small part of the deluxe box sets which take in live performances, unreleased demos and rough mixes, interviews, radio spots and more! Both boxes include CDs, black vinyl records, vinyl picture discs and a DVD along with books including rare photos and essays and other paraphernalia.

The Kill ‘Em All box includes the album on CD and vinyl as well as a 2LP vinyl pressing of Live at Espace Balard (Paris, France Feb 9th, 1984) and a vinyl picture disc of the Jump in the Fire single. All the vinyl comes with digital downloads.

The four CDs (in addition to the album) include a disc of rough mixes and rarities, Live at J Bees Rock III, Live at The Keystone, Palo Alto, CA and a CD of interviews and Radio IDs. Finally a DVD of Metallica Live at the Metro in Chicago on August 12th, 1983 is included which is mostly previously unreleased.

The Ride The Lightning box follows a similar template, although is even bigger. As well as the remastered album on vinyl and CD, the Metallica fan gets to enjoy Live at the Hollywood Palladium (from 1985) on double vinyl and a vinyl picture disc of the Creeping Death single. There are five more CDs in this box (a total of six): an interview disc, ten unreleased rough takes/demos from Lars’ vault, and three live performances from Kabuki Theatre (San Francisco), Lyceum Theatre (London) and Castle Donington respectively.

The DVD in Ride The Lightning box offers footage of the band Live at the Metal Hammer Festival in Germany in 1985, Live at MTV’s Day on the Green (California, 1985) and some early interview footage from Danish TV.

Both boxes come with a hardcover book. Kill ‘Em All also has a patch, while Ride The Lightning includes a ‘mini-book’ of handwritten lyrics and a set of three posters.

Both boxes are released on 15th April 2016. (Pre-order links will be updated to reflect wider availability).

The bad news about the reunion is that the cash flow will not create much incentive for Axl to release something like this. We'll see it at one point, but I'm not expecting it soon.

The label is going to want to cash in on the reunion. If Axl wants that contract out of the way, now would be the time to start unloading some of that vault.

I see the label wanting something less elaborate. This only appeals to hardcore fans.

Hopefully what happens is a new album or a live disc to get out of the contract, then the vault stuff for a NIN type release. Cut the label out of the equation and Axl could make a lot of money even if only forum goers turn out.

Most likely thing would be a live package imo. If it's one thing Axl wants it is full control over new material, and I'm not sure the label is willing to give him that even with the reunion. In either case the time is right to strike the iron in some way or the other.

These box sets look awesome, but man their expensive, idk of I'll get them or hold out to see what the cheaper options will be.  If they release all the demo/live shows/DVDs in a deluxe package w/o all that vinyl - I might go for that instead.  Maybe. I like vinyl though, so I'm on the fence here.

That's really cool for Metallica to do this. I hope they release some other consolidated editions without the hefty price tag, but I'll probably pick these up at some stage.

Really hoping we get that new album from them this year too. It's been 8 years since Death Magnetic, and I still rate that fairly highly in their discography

I'm sure they are going to release this in a CD/DVD format at a lower price. The only question in my mind, is will it offer all the demos and live performances that this box set offers.

I just pre-ordered the box sets. I was on the fence becuse of that price tag, but it's a good value.

I'm a big fan of Death Magnetic as well. I know a lot of fans that have given up on Metallica after St Anger, and I always recommend they listen to DM. And DM definitely makes me excited to hear a new albums.

During the Night Before show James mentioned that they were finishing up recording on the new album, but he said no promises on when it would be released. It's funny, I was thinking to myself that he was pulling an Axl. Lol.
