Nothing can stop U2. Bono himself couldn't sabotage its release even if he wanted to.

Yeah, you're probably right.  But sales are down all across the board, it isn't just with GNR.  Maybe U2 will be immune to the doomed economy, we'll see I guess.

I think the thing with U2 is they have a have fanbase that buy everything and everything the band releases. Myself included. It'll be interesting to see if the economy impacts them this time around. I'm sure it will when it comes to the casual fan but I really feel U2 has such a  large fanbase who want to have that hardcopy of the abum that initial sales in week one should still be anywhere between 700 000 - 900 000 copies.  I really don't think there is another band out there today who has that built in fanbase. U2 may not hae the biggest casual fabase the way AC/DC does(I could be wrong) but I do believe they have the biggest hardcore fan base. Then you add in their pention for releasing catchy first singles which actually appeal to the MTV crowd of today and their ability to promote better than anyone and  it all equals out to very impressive album sales regardless of economic times.  We're gonna find out though that's for sure.  Their album is coming out March 2nd in Europe and March 3rd in North America and times will be even tougher than they were in November.  I think this release is gonna be a real tell tale sign of where we're at in the world of music as far as what kind of impact the economy is having on album sales. That or as James put it it's just gonna show that U2 is the exeption to the rule.

Just remember D that 2 million albums nowadays is probably the equivalent of 6-8 million worldwide from back in the 90's.  Sad fact, people don't buy music anymore, they download it and on torrent sites.  So to me CD is not a complete failure.  Maybe GNR fans are more downloading motherfuckers than AC DC's fans.  *lol*

gnfnraxl does this mean if U2 sells 5 million I can challk it up to actually 20 million? 16  Just kidding man.

Yeah,  And I'm not kidding.  If U2's album sells 6-8 millions nowadays then it would at least do 20 millions back in the 90's.

this is what made me a U2 fan....wow. I was 18 when this went down....my girlfriend taped it and we watched it over and over again....still my favorite U2 song.

Madagas I wasn't old enough to witness that when it happend so it's appeal is slightly lost on me as I'm sure it is among alot of newer U2 fans but no doubt this is the performance that put them on the map. Their most famous performance ever. It actually almost broke up the band cause the other guys were so pissed at Bono for doing what he did. It forced them to extend the song so long that they never got to play Pride which was their hit single at the time.  After the performance they all(including Bono) thought they'd blown it and missed a huge opportunity. It wasn't untill later that they realised what everyone else did at the time that the performance was epic and it's what shot them through the stratosphere.

16 yeah War I've seen that Bush clip before. It's pretty cool. I'd go with Achtung Baby as their best album but yes Unforgettable Fire is awesome and really underrated by the general public.  My favorite U2 song(favorite song period) is Where the Streets Have No Name.

Here's an awesome version of Running to Stand Still if you like that song

Jokes aside, I love me some u2. I have all their CDs except maybe the second singles collection. Been to one show, the Elevation tour I think. I'll have to check my shirt.

My favorite, of course, is One. The video, you know the one with the buffaloes not the stupid one with the cars, is so moving.

I was at the ZOO TV show in 92 when they did Even Better Then The Real thing on the VMAs.

Bastard. 16 That was the highlight of that VMA show.

madagas, you're about as old school as it gets on these GNR boards. I was in 5th grade when Live Aid happened.

Agreed Bigbri. I never liked the one with the cars either. They actually put out three versions of this video.  The Buffalo one came first.  Everyone agreed it was an amazing video but in an MTV era it wasn't really great for repeat viewing so they did a second video with the cars and the guys in drag. That video was made to go hand in hand with the single where they donated all proceeds to an Aids charity foundation. the band was worried though with teh imagery of the second video and weren't sure if the message would go over the way it was intended so they made a third video. It wasn't as "controversial"  at the time as far as people being able to relate to the video as the one with the guys in drag and it was a better repeat viewing type of video than the one with the Buffalos. The band was worried with this one though because it was the first time they had ever featured a woman in their videos and they were worried about One coming off as a standrad love song which is most definately is not. Either way it worked.  As far as the entire video goes it's pretty unimpressive save for the shots with just Bono in the bar. Those scenes have an awesome atmosphere to them that compliment the song I think. Here it is if you haven't seen it.

Rattle and Hum is awesome. At one point I considerd it my favorite U2 album. I never can understand it when people call it shit or don't even mention it at all. I think it gets a bad rap cause of the Rattle and Hum movie which kinda flopped. But even still I like the Rattle and Hum movie. That movie captured the greatest performance ever of Sunday Bloody Sunday  in my opinion
