As many lawsuits that GNR have been in, and as pissy as Axl can be about these things, there is no way that a company does this without his prior knowledge. He would have been extremely pissed if he got word of this via the internet. Remember what he said at RIR in 2001? "The internet is one big garbage can".

Nah, that's how capitalism works ... they've got money to spend to promote their product, so if you want them to also promote your product, you either get the fuck onboard (with Dr Pepper in this case) or fuck off (so to speak).
EDIT:
Besides, if selling out entails actual communication with fans (in some limited form, anyway) then GNR could stand to do a lot more selling out, IMO.

That's the main reason I didn't want to go to Woodstock 94 (It was "sponsored" bu Pepsi). Nearly 15 years later, I don't care too much either way. It is kinda lame though. Whatever, I just want the album.... I don't care if it comes in a box of kids sugar cereal.

It had crossed my mind, but if that's what it takes to get the album out on everyone's terms then so be it.

I'm sure the nutswingers don't care as long as it's not a video game... 
Seriously, I don't care about this "selling out" thing that people seem to say artists do. And quite frankly, anything that functions to support the release of this album is nothing but positive in my book. Jeez, they could be endorsed by Viagra, Rogaine, and Depends for all I care... as long as it gets the album out it's not important.

personally, i could care less how they promote it. actually, that is not true, i don't care how they promote it as long as they do it so it can be a successful album. if the album is quality i am happy with it being a success.
