Re: GNR to perform at Golden Gods award show/ lifetime achievement for Axl

Duff seems to be in a bit of limbo with his solo career at the moment.  As was pointed out before he seems to have been jumping around from band to band at the moment.

The death of VR would also have meant the death of any significant $$ paying gig for Duff IMO.  I am not entirely surprised to see him chummy with Axl and prepared to take any bones Axl might throw his way.  I also wonder if the whole VR thing and Slash pursuing his solo career perhaps left a bit of a bitter taste in Duff's mouth and strained his relationship with Slash just a little.

That said there's nothing wrong with Duff choosing to let go of past shit with Axl and do what he's doing and there is most likely nothing in it, but I just wonder whether Duff perhaps is cultivating this whole thing a little bit just to see where it goes and give himself another option.  Good luck to him if he is since he has bills to pay and a family to feed like the rest of us, but it's interesting nonetheless to watch it play it.

Duff doesn't need the money. From all accounts he's well taken care of from some very smart business investments, not to mention his wife's income. I'm sure it comes down to Duff really wanting to play with Axl. If the Microsoft investment was true, Duff has more money than all of the past and present members of GN'R combined... and then some. The dude is very, very wealthy, either way. Duff don't need no bones thrown his way wink

And Izzy no showed the HOF too and played a gig with Axl around the same time, and after. And I wouldn't be shocked if he made an apearance at this thing as well. I expect Tommy to be there too.

Yeah. Duff got lots of cash. The guy just toured the world with Walking Papers. He's got one hell of a catalog of writing credits too he makes money from:

Guns N Roses
Velvet Revolver
Some Janes Addiction- Last ALbum
Loaded
Walking Papers

He's played with a LOT of people too
Bach's new album
Izzy's Solo Stuff
Mark Lannegans Solo Stuff

He's also got like a journalism job and a banking job...
He's not in need of cash.

Looks to me like old friends burying the hatchet.

Right on Floraleza! Obrigado to the maximus! What a SA trip! Thank you all. Until next time!

Next time?

GNR will also be playing at the Rock on the Range festival on May 13 in Columbus, Ohio, then they start a nine-show residency on May 21 at the The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. "There's rumblings of other things to come," Stinson says, "but I'm not sure what those would be at this point."

-Billboard, 04/02/14

After the residency?

I’m flying to LA now to do a week of Gn’R rehearsals and then we head to South America for a month. Then I’ll be off for a couple of weeks before heading to do a residency for a month at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. Hopefully after that, I will be focusing primarily on the Dead Daisies.

-Fortus, 03/05/14

Silence after the residency?

Same here. Not everything is about money. Duff is one of several rock stars out there that turned his life fucking around and made some good decisions physically and financially. He's not scraped for cash in the royalities department. Just playing with some friends. It seems like he really gets along with alot of current band members besides just Tommy and Axl.

Perhaps he is desiring playing in a band again with a fan base of some size.  Unlike Izzy who in the main tends to want to shy away from the big gigs, perhaps Axl is a good option for Duff to play in a sizeable band again.

I think if I was Duff going from playing in GNR and then VR which still had a reasonable size fan base, to playing in a band like Walking Papers etc, they really are poles apart.  No doubt he probably enjoys getting back to his roots and not having to worry about big band issues etc, but at the same time if that was it for the rest of his musical life,  I dunno, if it was me I think it might feel a bit empty and I would still crave for some of those big stages again from time to time.

As for the money thing, from what we can tell I'm sure Duff has probably managed his money more wisely than most of his former band mates, but it doesn't mean it's not a factor.  I work as a Financial Adviser and I see people with shitloads of money that theoretically never have to work again despite their extravagant lifestyles, but fuck me are some of them still driven by the almighty dollar!!!  There's nothing wrong with that, but my point is just because people are wealthy it doesn't mean that they stop wanting to make more money or it's not a factor in their decision making.

Besides, what may seem like sufficient dollars to you and me may not be to them, it's all relative.  Whilst Duff doesn't appear to have a crazy lifestyle like Axl with hangers on everywhere, he still roles in different circles to us mere mortals, so there would still be a much higher cost of living to maintain.  As for his wife working, my guess is she would be more of a liability on his balance sheet than an asset - most women are lol.

Anyhow, I'm probably reading way too much into it.  Duff was probably asked to fill in to help Axl out and he was happy to do it, help to bury any past ugliness and have some fun playing a big stage again.  At the same time, who knows where it could lead, if I were in his position I might look to keep that door ajar too.
