Re: Axl/DC stuff

The AC/DC interviews for Power Up are throwing up some interesting little Axl titbits:

And the 2016 shows with Axl Rose (and Chris Slade on drums) were truly fantastic. “We didn’t know Axl,” Williams says, “but he did a great job, got us through.” He says “it was a different vibe, completely”, but has “nothing but positives for Axl; he was very respectful, he worked hard, there was no bullshit.”

Rose did however start calling out for old, little-rehearsed songs, with barely any notice. “He would lay it on you just as you were going on: OK, we can do that,” Young says. “The guy who does my guitars had played some of those songs, and I said, ‘You shout out how I begin it, will you?’ I was praying that we got through it. As Axl says, he’d never rehearsed in his life.”

“I'd only met him a long time ago in the 80s,” Young admits. “He had come to a show and he was, to me, he was very, very nice and everything. So, we got to a rehearsal place and tried out and he put a lot of effort in everything. Basically, that's how it came in to be, that allowed us to finish off those dates.”

“So for us, it was a heaven sent. It was a little bit like a lifesaver. Even though he had done his foot in before he started, he borrowed a chair. He was determined he was going to go.”

“The first show we had to do, I think it was in Portugal [at Lisbon’s Passeio Maritimo de Algés, specifically, on May 7, 2016],” Young remembers. “It was a horrible day. It was raining and everything, it was open air. It was… everything was going wrong and then just at the last minute, the sky cleared, the storm went away. We got on stage and got through. He performed from the chair, gave it his best shot and we got through.”

“So for the band, we'll be forever grateful and he helped us get through all of those shows.”

"He jumped into a tough, tough vocalist gig," Johnson tells UCR of the Guns N' Roses singer, who helped out during the Rock or Bust tour after Johnson's hearing issues forced him off the road. "You’ve got to be on top of your game for that. There’s not many resting places. You’ve really got to go in full chop, all of the time. And for him to do that at such short notice was pretty fantastic. I’ve got a lot of respect for what he did, you know. A lot of respect."

In a new interview with Total Guitar, Young said "that never really came up. Axl was really very generous, and he helped us out to get through our touring side at a difficult spot. He had contacted us and said he could help if it didn’t interfere with his own commitments of what he was going. ... He wanted to come in and try songs that he himself liked, and he was suggesting songs I hadn’t played in a long time. I’m definitely grateful that he volunteered, and that had helped us finish off our commitment. But he has his own life.”

Friend of mines a big ACDC fan. Had tix to the show. He was on the fence about the whole Axl/DC thing, but ended up going. Sent me a text the next day, saying it was a great show, and Axl delivered. I didn't expect it but yeah he said he was solid.

Not only did he sound great, he also looked like a rocker. No bullshit. Just killed it in a controlled methodical manner. It was right at the same time as my NITL show. Summer of 2016. Honestly, Axl will never sound that good again. Time slips away from the best of us. For me, Gnr is 100% nostalgia now. axlaxl92
