That's the very first I hear of '99 Times'. Is it on YouTube somewhere?

I dont think so. Was going to PM you this but i'll leave it here incase anyone else wants a listen. They never recorded it apperently, i only ever heard this boot which i tried to boost and improve a bit a while back. It looks like it became that SMCK song but I much prefer Rod Jacksons voice

There are others like Dry Jack but i dont have them laying around. They may have become SMCK tunes as well

Thank you so much! Does indeed sound much superior to what Myles made out of the song!.

I had a look on setlist.fm. Looks like other unreleased songs are Dry Jack, like you mentioned, as well as Holiday Smile (played only once), I Left My Soul, Break You, and Sorry I'm Wrong

Quite surprising. Would be interesting to hear them and see what else they might have become..

Break You was the original title for Back to the Moment

We spent time with Manny Charlton from Nazareth. He came over because we were thinking bout having him produce the record. We were in the studio for two and a half days and we did everything live. We recorded 25 or 30 tunes. We never did anything with that album but we have the masters to it. It's something where we'll go back and pick through it. A lot of the stuff that comes out when your just jamming as a band is the best.

That is interesting.

I guess my reason for doubting it is the way Slash took the 5'oclock riffs and made an album out of them straight away when there was dispute in GNR, and then he used VR demo riffs again when he first launched his post VR solo career.  He also used riffs he had jammed with izzy in VR despite izzy leaving. So it seems odd that he would ignore stuff he had written for GNR for nearly 40 years....especially in the context of how he has more than 8 non GNR records under his belt....that's a lot of riffs.

On the other hand...I would believe if there were AFD demos around that Axl might have left them alone for a rainy day....as his late 1990s interests seemed to be more along the lines of stuff like OMG and Silkworms rather than revisiting the early sound...and I think he alluded somewhere that they had some heavy afd type stuff around but he couldn't get slash to like it....(could be a misquote...i'm absentminded these days)

Also...you'd think Tom Mayhue would know his stuff......then again who knows....like even out of the CD songs who knows which ones were old at the time...certainly TIL seems pretty old.....anyways....i'd like to hear anything else they have really.

Not buying it. They released barely 50 songs in their entire career. No way they got 25 extra tunes laying around. The intention with UYI was to release everything they had, new and old, except for some inferior b sides.

Interesting that Izzy would say that, but I'm putting no weight on it being true.

Obviously AFD songs are in there but maybe it still leaves a couple

Weren't the Sound City sessions produced by Manny Charlton? I believe these are the demos Izzy is talking about here. The amount certainly checks out (25 songs, 34 if counting alternate takes & uncirculated songs)

I believe they were, however I agree with Polluxlm tbf I just dont believe they have that many pre CD era songs lying around that we dont know about. I only posted the Izzy quote as I happened to be reading some stuff on the Chopaway forum and found it interesting.

I guess Tom first said that they sounded like AFD then said about unreleased AFD tracks. But when you think CD stuff is from 30 years ago....maybe he just ment the unreleased CD era tracks sound like AFD stuff with Slash/Duff. Put that with a song or two from the olden days and it would make sense.

Imagine Axl going to Joe Rogan and using that opportunity to promote new songs. So many stores to share in general and new songs which could be an interesting conversation starters..

I mean, how many people casually listen to that podcast and would just check out new songs, great promotion opportunity to people who don't just turn on interviews and TV..

But again, I might be wrong.. sad

Not really a huge fan of Rogan but lets face it we would all watch it and listen if Axl went on, I find it hard to believe he wouldnt have asked him. The amount of people Rogan has gotten to go on his show, I almost think if he cant get Axl to do a long form sit down then nobody can.

Shows coming up in the states soon so perhaps
