Re: Axl: I would play the new songs but haven't received a marketing plan
Thought this deserved it's own thread, since it's a big insight into why releases are so complicated in GNR world. Post by Blackstar on Mygnr: Perhaps from the recent Yokohama IEM. Axl struggled - his mid-range is deteriorating. There were no backing vocals on the first chorus and Axl was pissed off. After the song, Duff (?) says "my bad". Then Axl says "I would do the other two new songs, but I've been asking for a marketing plan and haven't seen anything".

So in a way he is not at fault but TB are. Yet its him who hires them so in a way it is lol
I think these IEMs are going to be pretty revealing.

A marketing plan? Bro just shut up and sing
Re: Axl: I would play the new songs but haven't received a marketing plan
This has to be for an album. There’s not been a marketing plan for the other singles
You’d think so. They’ve just been dropping singles here and there with little to no mention or follow up and now he wants to know where the marketing plan is?
It seems that June 6th is for Atlas and maybe Nothing as well? That wouldn’t seem to be worthy of a full scale marketing plan the way they’ve been going but maybe that’s the start of something larger in the end, a full album, etc.
This video is from a few weeks ago so it could be old news now. But it mentions a full LP of 13 songs recorded & ready to go. 5 reworked CD era songs, 5 completely new songs, and 3 covers including Benny & The Jets. Absurd, Hard Skool, Perhaps, & The General have been released. If we get Atlas & Nothing that would be 6 & we’ve also heard Monsters. So if there are only 5, which 2 wouldn’t make the cut?

Re: Axl: I would play the new songs but haven't received a marketing plan
Axl struggled - his mid-range is deteriorating.
Wish he'd just abandon the idea of doing the high notes and just fully commit to singing in a lower register where he still has power. Build the setlist out of songs that are in that range – It's So Easy, Bad Obsession, Mr Brownstone etc – and rework the others to sit in that range like he did with Nightrain and Estranged at that one London gig where he was ill. Obviously you'd have to keep SCOM and probably Paradise City in the line-up, but two songs isn't going to be too taxing.
Re: Axl: I would play the new songs but haven't received a marketing plan
Axl still has a low register true, but he can also scream. That is why Nightrain and Outta Get Me tend to sound pretty good. His worst performers are the delicate ones like SCOM and November Rain, but he could do those in a lower register.
Without being any kind of vocal expert I think this has to do with "stiff" vocal chords. It works when you put a lot of power into it like a scream, but mid and low level rasp like on You're Crazy is just not doable anymore. In truth he has been struggling in that area all the way back to the late 80s.
Re: Axl: I would play the new songs but haven't received a marketing plan
May 2: Duff says their next single, "Nothing," is coming out soon.
May 5: Forums start buzzing about a new album, and a June 6 release date.
The band literally tells us that a single is coming out soon, and the forums immediately go into "must to be a new album!"

Let’s not forget that Duff said about 6 months ago that “new music is coming out sooner rather than later”
I’d love to know what kind of a world they live in where 6 months and counting is “soon”
