#1041 Re: The Sunset Strip » The NINE INCH NAILS Thread » 902 weeks ago

I haven't heard any of this yet, but its certainly caught my interest as a NIN fan.

Thought this part was interesting (see 'more info')

'The end result is a wildly varied body of music that we're able to present to the world in ways the confines of a major record label would never have allowed - from a 100% DRM-free, high-quality download, to the most luxurious physical package we've ever created.'

I'd love to see Axl do something like this with GN'R, although I appreciate the music may not lend itself to this kind of release.

Well I've recently 'found' Metallica again, a little. I thought St. Anger was utter shite, so it can only get better for me now. And at least you can rely on them to actually release something.

I really hope the return of Guns N' Roses isn't marked by a single in The Hulk. Batman or Bond maybe, but not the hulk, please!

I am amazed at how long this supposed 'negotiation' is going on. I mean its not exactly Middle East Peace talks, is it? Unless there are lawyers and ex members (incl their lawyers) involved I cannot see why the band and the record company couldn't iron out their diffrences with the band over a few days of meetings.

If there are any plans for 2008, I would expect the plan to be along the normal lines of a fall release (thanksgving). Along these lines if we don't hear a release date from them by July / August at the very latest I see another year of silence ahead of us and the usual bullshit gnr seasonal cycle.

At which point I begin to think I will totally lose interest :-(

(I say think I can be quite fickle if I want to be!)

Pretty much confirms all the leaks are on the record doesn't it?

#1046 Re: Guns N' Roses » Will you ever give up? » 904 weeks ago

If it wasn't for the internet, i'd have given up a while back. Not given up on the band just the 'waiting' part.  If I'm away from home, on holiday or generally otherwise occupied I don't really think about GNR. But when I'm back at work, home then there's always that niggling 'I wander if there's any news' thought in the back of my head. I think its more to do with my personality that i don't like things unfinished...

The other thing that strikes me about this is how Axl will need to string this out if he wants success. Just think 14yrs or so of waiting, then once you have the album it could all be over in 60 minutes or less. Half that if all the leaks we have heard are included. Potentially a big come down after the first few weeks of intense listening (hard core fans) or a few listens (casual fans). Which leads me to think that we may see a six month announcement to release date timeframe, a tour announced in build up (to encourage people to buy tickets before the album is released and they lose interest) and maybe a couple of songs (possibly not on the album) released to create the hype. I still don't see the band doing many interviews and promo mind you.

I'm interested to know - will you guys ever give up on Axl and his dreams?

Axl might have taken his time, and most of us at some time have whined and grumbled but I still don't know of many of the hard core people on these forums that have given up waiting for this darn album.

Will this ever be over? I still want to hear it, ever so badly, but I'm starting to get a little tired of it all...yet I'm sure I will carry on and on and on...fuck even the people that are sick of it can't seem to shake off their forum habits...

We're all puppets in Axl's show. I just hope the red curtains will soon be either lifted or closed for the last time.

I can't imagine why so many people are falling into discussing that rumor. It seems to me that there's a million reasons why a GNR Guitar Hero game would be extremely hard to do at this point.

Its probably a fabricated rumour to distract everyone from the ongoing delays of Chinese Democracy.

Completely agree with russ on this. Don't really believe GNR for one minute. 2

I can't believe in just two weeks time its the anniversary of the tentative date mad

I like what that guy from anti-music had to say on the matter. Universal is concerned about making their money back due to how pathetic sales in the music industry are right now. I say that they should provide a lossless version of it for download through a pre-order on the official GN'R website. Sell it for $10. Don't officially release the album on physical CD, Amazon mp3, iTunes, etc. until you've sold 2 million copies through the pre-order. People are allowed to pre-order as many copies as they wish. There are probably some die-hards out there who would pay $100+ if it meant helping the album get released as soon as possible. In fact, some might even spend as much as $1000 on it. 2 million copies x $10 = $20 million before the actual release of the album.

Even if demand is much smaller than it once was, you could still sell the pre-order for $5 and that's still $10 million before an official release. The pre-order idea is a great way to capitalize on the die-hards' desire to get the album without sending the album to the pressing plant where it will surely leak. The best way to prevent piracy causing a huge dent in the album's sales is to build in a guaranteed revenue from it. A pre-order like this is the best way to accomplish it.

I'm a big fan of the 'ransom release'. But although it sounds simple I'd imagine its probably more complicated in practice. Other than the die hards would other people really do it though? And what if the magical number wasn't met?
