Not really. It's funny, in recent years I've gotten the impression that GNR's management and/or label thought the song would be much more popular. If they wanted it to be a bigger hit, they should have produced a video - MTV still played them in those days. They also should have issued it as a single. Instead, it seemed to get buried - unfairly, but still buried.

the complete absence of music videos is one of the most baffling things about the whole chinese democracy saga. axl was already overwhelmed just by trying to get the right sounds on the record -- i'd bet he never even thought about a music video until the last second (or at all). the "better" video would suggest that. they didn't have a shred of creativity or inspiration with that one. i wonder if axl was just too self-conscious at the time for anything related to visuals. he looked weird as hell, and the band was basically a confused group of trick-or-treaters.

it's especially crazy considering how big a role music videos played back in the day for guns. you could argue that they would have never blow up without the original videos for appetite. will "since i don't have you" really go down as the last official video in guns history?

let's hope not.

I have the "Parental Advisory" version of the End of Days soundtrack and am curious how the "Clean version" of the CD deals with the f-bomb in "Oh My God." Is there a bleeping sound? a dropout of the vocal? I can't imagine Axl recorded an alternate lyric so there must be something in that spot to cover it up. Or did it slip past the censors?

anything cool in the booklet of the cd?

Can anyone recommend Bucket/Brain stuff I should check out?

giant robot ntt is the quintessential buckethead release. it encapsulates all his different styles, sounds and gimmicks into one coherent package. it also features some stellar drumming from brain. you won't be able to find a physical copy of it, but it's on youtube.

monsters and robots is another classic, also with brain on drums. there's even some les claypool on like half the songs!

both are highly recommended.

if you're more into the chill stuff, check out colma. some of bucket's best work on that one.

At best, I could maybe see a CD2/outakes type album, maybe box settish thing, and possibly later a newer written album with Slash & Duff contributions to the writing process. My guess is that the band kinda breaks up & a CD2 type thing is released, but nothing special. If it doesn't happen or get announced in 2018 I don't have high hopes.

the only 3 scenarios i see even remotely possible for a new release are 1) a best of compilation, 2) a career-spanning live album, or 3) chinese democracy 10th anniversary box set w/ "demos", cut songs and the remixes.

the greatest hits was a disaster, and missed out on classics while including some truly head-scratching additions. a proper best of double album would sell like crazy and be the easiest thing in the world to put together, so i think it would only make sense to strike while the iron is hot.

live era is decent, but it's not really a live album, nor does it give a varied showcase of the band at their best and most exciting. i'd love to see something that had early '86 performances at peak of the band's rawness, some 88-89 stuff during their peak, a few '91 songs and even some stuff from kickass '16 shows like houston or detroit.

the main reason i think there's a chance of cd boxset type thing is because it's axl's life work and it never got a proper release that he was totally proud of. also, melissa and brain performing a bunch of the remixes lately gives me hope -- that's gotta mean something, can't be totally random.

not holding my breath for an album, but i don't see any reason why guns can't drop a song for a movie soundtrack in 2018.

#197 Re: Guns N' Roses » melissa & brain perform sorry remix at nba halftime show » 441 weeks ago

once the dust settles after this massive tour is over, i'd love to see axl finally embark on a solo career.

being freed from the pressure, unreal expectations and label contracts would allow to more easily explore new sounds, ideas and avenues.

he's mentioned wanting to do film scores, and i think we'd all agree on how badass that would be. projects with brain and melissa would be equally cool.

call me crazy, but i'd almost be more interested in an axl rose solo record than a new guns n roses record. i think he'd be more confident to get more experimental, and the fans would be more open to it since it doesn't have the gnr name and history attached to it.

Will Guns N' Roses kill me?

i can totally relate to this. guns n roses is simultaneously my favorite band and least favorite band of all time. i love them, and i hate them.

their last show in detroit was one of the best concerns i've ever been to in my life. they fuckin' killed it!

but then i think about new music... and all the bullshit axl put us through in the dark years... and i'm overwhelmed with frustration.

I always thought the KFC bucket and mask was a stupid gimmick, but I guess it’s not that much different to Slash hiding himself under the hair, sunglasses and top hat. A way of hiding anxiety when performing live in front of people

same with axl and his hats, glasses, jackets & excessive jewelry.

i guess i naturally became a fan of bucket as a kid who grew up with pro wrestling. i fell in love with the buckethead gimmick as soon as i saw it.

if anyone hasn't listened to that podcast yet, do it now. hearing about bucket's dream of opening his own amusement park is so touching. he talks about how his fear/anxiety would prevent him from even making phone calls to people about getting the ball rolling for his park. now, with his parents passing and his health scares, it put a sense of urgency in him to overcome those fears and make things happen.

just imagine if bucketheadland was an actual thing... an actual amusement park with slunk coasters, plastination stations and slaughter zones.

james lofton and i would be the first 2 cats in line!

Everyone from grannies to gangbangers were snake dancing down the street. Other than the reunion last year, it's the only genuine buzz GNR had in the 21st century. Yeah the media was giving killer reviews for HOB/Rio in 2001 but the spotlight was on them at the VMAs. Unfortunately it was temporary.

It still amazes me that they would bother to go public without an actual plan of attack. He said years later that he was pretty much forced into doing the 2002 period. I believe him. There was no method to the madness.

axl seemed to be riding a high after that performance as well. a few months after the show, he did a rare interview with the wrif radio station in detroit.

during the interview, he actually brought up his plan for the next couple years. revisionist history states that sebastian bach was the only one to ever mention the whole multiple albums thing, but axl was the first one to ever bring it up, way back in 2002!

When we do drop the record, the plan is to drop the record, have a bunch of extra tracks... about a year or so down the road, drop another record, and drop a third record. It's a three stage thing and we'll be touring for a real long time.

at least the last part is true. 14
