It’s not only one of my favorites, but I can think of many GNR songs that are way inferior.
I mean it all comes down to preference. It’s still beyond me when some fans said the same about Prostitute
I think Prostitute is a masterpiece - the cream of CD. Sorry is very strong bar some of the lyrics. The General is not in the ballpark of either.

The General is undoubtedly one of the worst songs in the entire GNR catalogue

Someone on mygnr has finally called out the clipping on the bass drum throughout.
Thought I was the only one who heard it.
The appalling mix notwithstanding, this is just so amateurish as to be laughable. Right up there with the CD liner notes debacle for me.

Sky Dog wrote:Compare the latest Stones album to Sticky Fingers or Exile On Main Street? Same shit for Guns. These guys will never recapture the past….The Who?
These type of rock bands don’t get better with age.
Most of this board is 100% unrealistic.
Even my boy James, give me some numbers on Soundgarden’s last record. You just can’t recapture that ‘it’ factor
It is what it is….you guys are arguing about a few songs that were written 20 years ago!
I wasn't referring to the quality of the actual material. Obviously none of these ancient bands are going to be as good as they were back in the day. That Stones album isn't Sticky Fingers...hell it's not even Steel Wheels.
The new Stones album does sound better than these leftovers...
Soundgarden...
Here's a couple that destroy these leftovers...in both song and mixing quality.
Would you rather have Adam Kasper and Joe Barresi handling leftovers...or Caram and Axl?
King Animal for me, sits very comfortably in their discography alongside their classics.
I also haven’t enjoyed an album like I’m enjoying Hackney Diamonds in some time. Love it

God lord. Back to the amateurish mixing and production after getting a proper professional mix for Perhaps. Can they not hear how bad those drums sound plus they are clipping like crazy. And that ending is the weakest Gn’R ending in their catalogue to date.

. Most casual fans would probably say the songs are poor, compared to Jungle, NR etc.
And they'd be 100% correct too and it's not just casual fans who rightly think that.

The more I listen to all of these Chinese leftovers that Slash and Duff have worked with, the more it's clear these are bang-average songs that were left off the album for good reason. Perhaps is the cream of the crop by some distance of the 5 we have now heard completed for me.
I'm also increasingly baffled they didn't prioritise Atlas and State of Grace as well - I think they could be quality songs.
What a massive letdown "The General" is.

Heard it through the grapevine: Hollywood Bowl was planned as two concerts for allowing to better capturing video for a live Blu ray release.
That's one of the reasons The General had its premiere at the venue.
My sources or confirmations: none, just passing along what was heard on a social event with people who are not GNR fans.
Can’t see this happening now.
This Axl sexual assault story is big news - mainstream media all over the world reporting it
#29 Re: Guns N' Roses » AXL SUED FOR RAPE » 84 weeks ago
The end insofar as not being cancelled vs being cancelled. Cancelled equates to no more Sweet Child on the radio, no more Jungle at sports fixtures, no tiktoks, no more kids/teenagers wearing GN'R t-shirts, no more GN'R being part of the fabric of the worlds view around them being an absolutely iconic band. Certainly no more sold out global stadium jaunts. This may not happen of course - but it's possible. Look at what happened to Michael Jackson.
You are underplaying their cultural importance all around the world.

Got to say i'm surprised it has taken this long. With the whole "me too" thing, the rock n' roll fraternity seemingly were overlooked while Hollywood in the main was the target.
Chickens are coming to roost now seemingly - I wonder how many more lawsuits are in the pipeline?
Can't help but feel this could be the beginning of the end. Axl faced a host of similar lawsuits in the mid-90s and look at the subsequent period of silence. Does he have the fight in him to remain a public figure of any description or will he buy his way out of this and sail off into the sunset..?
