#291 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chris Pitman suing Axl Rose for unpaid 2011 wages » 425 weeks ago
how much do you think axl was talking out of his ass here?
After 'Chinese Democracy,' Axl says, "Now, there's been some concern... that if we play 5 or 6 new songs, then there can't that many more on the album. Au contraire mon frère! We're just playin' the songs we're not considering putting out as singles or anything. So you'll get 18 songs and about 10 extra tracks. And when that... when the record company feels that has run [it's] source, then you'll get it all over again. And by that time, I should be done with the 3rd album! So we'll see if all goes well boys and girls! And if Uncle Axl proves not to be an asshole - we'll have to see, the jury's still out."
axl also mentioned how the vocals challenged him tremendously on chinese democracy. he wouldn't even think about doing any vocals until he had a wall of sound to compete against. perhaps the reason we never heard the beltrami songs (seven, ides of march, thyme and the general) was because he was overwhelmed by the power of the instrumentation?
or maybe those songs are finished and make up the core sound of the sequel?

holy shit @ how they extrapolated the title of that article from the interview
again, the media is taking a fortus quote and attributing it to guns n roses... but it is weird how fortus is the only one talking
how is the entire band on a gag order except him? you'd think after years of giving hungry fans false hope, axl would be like "hey man, cut that shit out" or something

sometimes, i wish i was equally invested in a band like radiohead or something.
being a gnr fan is like being a hot tar roofer, but making minimum wage.
where's all the hoarders at in 2017? surely, their material is worth zilch these days. why continue to hold onto what's worth virtually nothing?

my interest in guns peaked in '06.
the band looked and sounded phenomenally. at this show and a few others that year, they actually captured a bit of the old band's energy. or maybe it was their own energy, hard to tell.
in any case, it was a great time to be a gnr fan. it was great to see axl back with that fire again.
nothing beats the rock am ring show, though. i still watch that dvd from time to time.

they will play mostly appetite songs, then angus young and kid rock will join at the end for a MASSIVE version of the seeker.

Seeing as Marco Beltrami worked on all of those tracks, I'd consider it doubtful they were half-baked ideas.
i'd agree, but how does a label fund bringing in a guy like beltrami and then approve the release of an album without his contributions on the final cut? just cutting their losses at that point? or did axl have them bought into the idea of a sequel or trilogy?

the antiquiet leaks obviously had an effect on the tracklisting as well. i wonder if each of those songs was "on the list" prior to them leaking?
in the supposed leaked tracklist, it had the general, thyme, atlas shrugged, ides of march and seven.
perhaps these songs were strategically saved as the core group of songs that would define the sound of the next record? or maybe they were just half-baked ideas that had no potential?
the world may never know...

axl has a one track mind. if he's touring, there's no possible way any work is being done on a new album. slash, duff & fortus might be jamming on some riffs during soundchecks, but i doubt axl's mind has put much thought into new music.
when the tour ends and he gets tired of counting his money, the thought might pop back in his head... but until then, we're just as close to new music as we've ever been.

How many times was CD II mentioned in eight years? It was kept extremely vague for a reason.
i'd love to see a "chinese whispers" edition of cd 2/3.
granted, the "trilogy" was mostly just axl & baz bullshit. it's funny listening back to their "joint" interview on howard stern... they were stoned as shit, just a couple of goofballs talking about nonsense. it's easy to picture those 2 in a dark studio room at 3am, playing puff puff pass as baz says "dude...... what if there was THREE ALBUMS?" and axl just loses it.
while a lot of the details about the sequel were vague, the thought of a more aggressive record where robin is heavily featured definitely has me intrigued. did axl ever say whether bucket would be included on cd 2? the general is supposed to be a brain song, so i'd imagine bucket would be all over it. very weird to me that we didn't see this on the album.
honestly, i can't think of any other recorded, unreleased material out there that i'd rather hear. the guns demos from the mid 90s with slash/duff/zakk would be interesting, i guess. outside of guns, i'd love to hear some of the demos layne staley was putting together during his recluse years, but that would probably more sad than good, unfortunately.

My main question is did Azoff put the best songs on the record, did he think he could get away with stashing good songs on album two, or did he purposely tank it?
so you think axl just submitted a bunch of songs and azoff cherry picked the final tracklist?
i guess that explains why silkworms isn't there... but how the fuck does anyone other than axl look at this and think keeping rhiad and scraped is a good idea?
unless, azoff really did try to tank it. what's his motivation there? just get the damn record out and call it a day?
