If he really nailed YCBM it's his best show in 20 years. He hasn't pulled that one off since 93.

My hope was that a Slash reunion would provide similar motivation for Axl to dig deep for his old voice and it seems that is what happened. He has a chance with this mega tour to shut up millions of doubters who think he can't sing anymore.

AC/DC thing is weird. Nothing would surprise me with that situation. Kinda funny that now Axl has some original GN'R members back in his band, he is being asked by the only major member left in AC/DC to help give some star power to Angus Young's glorified tribute band.

Btw, I think Duff looked fine. Slash's issue was finding his marks imo. He seemed a bit lost with where Axl was supposed to be, and the rest of the band. Remember... Slash hasn't played with GN'R in 22 YEARS! I'm sure there was a bit of rust there. Then again if Axl would fucking rehearse with Slash, maybe Slash would know what's up. So...
Actually no. I said from the get-go I thought Axl's voice was good. I criticized the energy (mainly Slash) and I stand by it. They say GN'R is "back." Then it's fair enough for me and anyone else to hold them to classic GN'R standards. They ain't what they used to be from an energy standpoint and that is precisely why I've been against a reunion for years.

Tejas saw one clip that looked low energy, but later said Axl sounded good and the show was good after seeing more clips.
The energy criticism was mainly Slash. It seems it was a great show by 50-something GNR standards but definitely missing some of the legendary magic of their prime.

So Smoking Guns, are you softening a bit on the supposed rip-off in Vegas? They needed this warm-up show. Hopefully Slash will loosen up for your Vegas show. I know he is shy and sober, but I think last night was unusual even by recent Slash standards. Nervous most likely.
Also keep this in mind for Vegas. You'll likely be the first show Slash plays Don't Cry, November Rain, and maybe Estranged in 23 years! Also first time Slash and Axl play Patience together in 23 years. So Vegas does have some exclusive stuff going for it.

I would love to know what Frank and Fortus really really thought of last night.... I think they now know they are in the real guns now.. Probably pretty blown away.
Richard is damn good as a touring guitarist and obviously he will never replace Izzy's songwriting talent. But Frank needs to step up his game. GN'R Groove was legendary with Stevie.
