Yeah, that was an intriguing comment. Considering that has always been one of my favorite songs(even before the leak), I'd sell my mother to hear it. It probably is more raw and has more balls than the leak. That intro is probably non existent, and likely little to no synth.

Little to no synth? Listen to 2001 live version of the song, there was way more synth than now. Just because it didn't have the intro doesn't mean it was more guitar driven - in fact, it sounded a lot less guitar driven back then. From the Boston Promo 2002, the synth was there in the studio mix too.

It's Bucket for sure, his sound is unique enough to notice. There's no way in hell it's not Bucket unless it's someone trying to be exactly like him.

I don't think Better was written in several pieces put toghether because that was the only new song besides Silkworms that Axl told about who wrote - in this case, Robin Finck. There are several GNR songs who had several different parts, like Rocket Queen and Locomotive.

Also, I find hard to believe that Bucket's solo was from different sessions. It would need a lot of work to mix it good enough with the actual song, as it would most likely be in another key, tempo and pattern. The great work by Bucket fits nicely in the song and it's felt in every chorus and also in his own solo.

About the article, I think it gives Bucket a whole more important than it would be for real. In all songs we know, Bucket only put solo and some licks here and there, but the structure of the songs were all the same since the early years. IMO, he was more to put some touches, but not to write the main concept of the songs - that seems to be the work of Paul Tobias, Dizzy, Tommy and Robin, of course.

agree...I think Bucket was brought in to take existing tracks and add his mojo to them.

Most of what Zutaut said had been said before by other people. I personally think he is telling the truth. Also, let's confirm what he said about the songs. I went back and read it again. He said when he got there, they had 50-60 songs spread out over 4-5 cd's. It was his job to sit with Axl and go through the material....obviously to see what Axl wanted to work on. By the time he left, he stated that 11-12 of those songs only needed a final mix to be ready for release. He did not comment on the quality of the material other than to say it was a great Gnr record. And, he did not say it did not have a single, he just said a general statement that records that sell alot need a good single. Finally, there was NEVER any indication from anyone that the label had rejected the album in 2002. As always, Axl obviously got cold feet from the fallout of the 2002 tour and obviously didn't put those final mixes on anything. The moral of this story is that nothing was ever completed in full until March 2007 when the band declared the recording to be done...and even that is debatable because if you are still mixing tracks, it is not done!

ps...the leaks we have are NOT final mixes...they are rough mixes and are definitely not mastered. Zoot confirmed that when talking about the Chinese Democracy song leak. Oh yeah, and I liked his comment that said the 2001-2002 version of CD smoked the leaked version's ass!:peace:

The trilogy thing started with the London 02 comment, please find me a quote from anyone in the band who mentions "trilogy" or says specifically 3 albums prior to that.....before that it was just multiple albums of material-70 songs-etc. It doesn't matter anyway. Like James said, if that first album isn't a) critically acclaimed or b) a strong seller, we probably won't see album two. 13

Zoot is talking straight...there are a ton of sources who have said nothing was ever being completed. Bandmembers as well. Zoot also is just saying that there were 11-12 close to completion. He was not talking about or giving an opinion on the quality of all of the material. In the end, all you had was just a ton of instrumentals with various rough vocal sketches over them in various stages of completion. In reality, the whole project is a fantasy because we still don't have an album! All I'm sayin is that there really is no record until the artist finishes it and a record company approves the tracklisting then sets it for release. Until then, all you have is a bunch of individual songs in various stages of completion. Lots of artists have had grand aspirations that didn't come to fruition. Go read about The Who's lifehouse project which ultimately turned in to Who's Next. Townsend had 30-40 songs then eventually went a little crazy. They finally took just 9 songs and released it as Who's Next. The leftover tracks eventually surfaced  on regular albums and b-side compilations.  Personally, I would take ten powerhouse tracks over 2-3 albums of varying quality.

and it is pretty obvious that what Axl has wanted to do with this record has not actually happened....but, that doesn't mean he didn't have ideas of what he wanted to do. And what he wants to do holds more weight than what Zutuat wants to do. Am I correct on that?

James, and you didn't read my post before my last one.:nervous: I said it is highly likely that the 11-12 songs CR heard would have been the majority of the 2001/2002 record....plus a few more which could easily put it in the 18 song range. Read what I say....don't just jump off the handle....

a) He is the artist-I think he has more of a clue as to what he wants to do than the A&r guy.  b)You obviously did not read anything I said in the second part of my post. That was my point. We don't know what the plan is now because we are already 2 years later from his last 13 song quote.
