The best part of it is the South Rim, which is closer to a 5 hour drive.   

Personally, I think Zion National Park is a bit more impressive.   That is about 2 hours from Vegas, and then the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon are both in that area too.. although the later 2 will have significant snow cover.     If it were summer, that is the trip to do from Vegas.
