There's plenty of material or potential for such. As always it falls on Axl's willingness to release it. The return of S&D and the support from industry could make that more likely, but we really don't know.

The way I see it, we're getting the best of both worlds; Izzy writes and contributes in the studio, and drops in on the tour for the odd guest slot, as he has done for the past several years. And we get Fortus' energy up on stage and the potential of some really interesting interplay between his guitar style and Slash's (lest we forget, Slash wanted to collaborate with him in the past). Plus he contributes in the studio too. What's not to like?

Izzy will be as sporadic in the studio as on the stage, and I don't think anyone counts on Izzy taking a big role in the band going forward in any capacity. I know it will drive James bonkers, but I've heard pretty steadily and adamantly that Richard is going to be all over the next album and will be central in the songwriting.

And I'll go ahead and throw it out there, I never heard anyone who seriously knows their shit ever say Richard would be featured on CD in any meaningful way outside Better which he helped flesh out into a song. Maybe some crazed Fortus fans but I seriously missed that whole thing.

Oh, I agree. Izzy's contributions would likely be a couple of Ghost-style rhythm guitar guest spots, some songwriting (Down by the Ocean!) and maybe a lead vocal. If an album is in the offing, there's no shortage of material to draw on, between the Slash/Duff VR-era material ("The best Guns N' Roses album Guns N' Roses never did") and all the Chinese Democracy-era stuff that Axl has in the vault (including, yes, those Fortus-written tracks that were held back for CD2).

I can easily see Slash and Duff going through that material and finding what they like, bringing in some ideas, and even working out some 1995-96 stuff. Pretty exciting. There could reasonably be three albums there for the band moving forward.

Plus, you know, the record company might actually be prepared to release an album featuring Axl, Slash and Duff.

I'd venture to say it's because he's got his head lodged up his ass, or Axl's ass, or fortus' ass or his insider pals asses, but I don't want to be seen insulting the guy. But really I see no objective explanation for excitement over Richard fortus being in the band. He's a good professional but for christ sake what has he ever done to inspire such fandom?? I don't get it.. I'm not even close to getting it. Is it all because of this idiotic & misguided notion that he's more reliable than Izzy?! I don't know.. I just don't know.. What is the big deal with 4tus?!

Dude can play guitar

Richard seemed nice enough when I met him

That'd about all I know...dunno anything about his songwriting

Well Izzy doesn't wanna go full time or he would be.

So what's the choices:

Gilby Clarke: Prefers to play lead these days. Adequate rhythm player but people say Axl didn't like his writing. Was left out of VR for some reason.

Paul Huge: Didn't like touring.

DJ: More of a lead player, would be absurd next to slash given he apes his style.

Bucket: Won't come back to GNR due to bullying or whatever it was.

Bumble: Obviously has the ability but would be wasted insanely as a rhythm player, also keen to move onto own projects it seemed.

Dave: Makes no sense as he's really from VR. Style was not really ideal for Slash anyway IMO. Seems like would cause media issues about a GNR/VR cross over.

Frank Sidoris: Solid Touring Rhythm player for Slash. But Slash bringing band members into GNR seems like it might upset the balance of GNR and conspirators. If I were Slash i'd keep this as an escape pod for when GNR gets nuts.

Basically....Fortus not only fits the bill exactly he's also kinda the most logical choice other than Izzy...and i strongly doubt Izzy is looking for a full time role.

I'm not familiar with Fortus' songwriting so can't talk about that but i like him because at every show i've been he was the surprise/highlight. I didn't expect that to be the case before the shows because we had a lot of guitarists over the years with very different personalities/looks/styles. But when i was in front of the stage the guy that drew my attention was Fortus.

I like his guitar playing, his laid-back style, his guitar 'punching' and his overall attitude.
I think he's the guitarist that resembles the most the classic gnr look/vibe. Just simple rock n' roll, no gimmicks and tricks (not trying to insult the other guitarists in the band, i still like'em big_smile ).
He plays his parts/solos well, he doesn't fuck'em up.
He has been a constant, reliable guitarist for the past 15 years. The only one if i'm not mistaking. For a band that has been renowned for it's revolving door of guitar players he's been there all the time. I respect that.
He gives interviews and tells us what he knows at the time. If plans change it doesn't mean he was wrong when he shared the info. He isn't the guy that makes final decisions in the band. We all know that. Doesn't make him a douche because he shared what he knew.

So, let me see, a rock n' roll, capable, reliable guitar player that is a constant member in a band known as a revolving door of musicians, that gives interviews in which he shares the info that's available to him. Yeah, i wonder what people like about him, too.

If Izzy really wanted to be involved in more than a once every other tour scenario, then does anyone really think Axl wouldn't have welcomed him back years ago? Its obviously Izzy's own choice and it doesn't really make any sense as to why the narrative would change now.

I'd be shocked if whatever Ashba wrote with the band wasn't scrapped. The guy did not fit the music of that era (Chinese Democracy) or the previous eras.

Assuming that remix of "Better" is real, then he probably wanted to write Sixx AM style music.

Just one other quick thing. The whole "Gilby was fired by Axl, because Axl didn't like his song writing thing", well in one of the TV interviews from the UYI days where Slash didn't seem too disappointed Izzy was gone, he also says they're not really sure if they're going to write anything with Gilby.

Some of the members made fun of him. Think Tommy was one of them.

Not too surprising given even Axl took offense at some of his antics (watching porn in the studio).
