We all know Izzy and Axl were THE songwriters in GN'R.

Not exactly. They got most of the credit, but without Slash and Duff, it would have been Hollywood Rose II and they sucked.

people - writing a solo and writing a song are two different things. slash and duff helped make gnr great but the core of the music (rythm's) and the vocals over the top are the most important elements to the songs.

once again, Its gnr because of ALL of them, not because of Axl Rose.. Again, it`d be Hollywood Rose, they blew, badly.

Re: IGN: Axl Needs To Go Solo

I don't know Izzy, but I doubt he would even want to be mentioned in articles like this, or GNR. He doesn't desire a spotlight the way Slash and Axl, and Duff as well, do. It's a lot by his own choices that he is overlooked by bloggers and journalists, and he probably is more than fine with that.

Axl Rose needs to go solo? There's a shocking idea... no part of this article could be considered new info, and its redundancy is beyond the point of calling it rehash. It's just words.

I don't think that writing a base and simple chord structure (like UTLH or SCOM) can come close to writing a great solo for that, or exploring a Stones-type riff (YCBM, DTJ etc.) into something earth-shattering.
BTW if you look at the AFD creds... Slash wrote or co-wrote the best songs, some without Izzy (WTTJ, Rocket Queen) while the weaker ones (My Michelle, Think about you, Anything Goes) lacked his contribution, with the exception of Crazy.

I still stick to my opinion that solos are as important as vocal melodies, even more when it comes to GN'R, where the two were equally magnificent. Slash is really undercredited for his contributions for various reasons.

My Michelle may be my favorite song on AFD! "YOUR DADDY WORKS IN PORNO NOW THAT MOMMY'S NOT AROUND!" fuckin classic....Slash's guitar is pretty bad ass as well.:slash: Everybody knows Slash was a huge part of the Gnr sound.
