Haha. This convo between James and ID is funny. The new girl on keys is cute. Why she is needed I have no fucking clue. Atleast we are down to two guitar players.

With Slash, no need for a third guitar player.

The second keyboardist is for the sound effects and programming, which was used heavily on the CD stuff.   Also, it serves to replicate with one person, what Teddy Zig Zag and the horns section used to do during the UYI tour.

Or with Richard AND Slash -- no need for a third guitar player. For a variety of reasons. I love Izzy, but Izzy has no ability to be a lead player.

Slash AND Richard give Axl what he wants. Fans what they want. And the entire brand what it needs. Slash plays lead. Richard plays rhythm. But at any given time Slash can play rhythm (very good), and Richard can play lead (very good).

So in the studio, technically... Axl still has two lead guitarists and a good rhythm player. Nothing's changed. Just when you see them live, Slash plays lead and Richard plays rhythm and rightfully so. What will get really interesting is if Izzy shows up. Suddenly Izzy's on rhythm. Richard ain't leaving that stage. I promise you. Suddenly Richard is gonna get Ron's role for a song or two. Slash/Richard/Izzy would be a fucking beast of a setup -- even if only for 2-3 songs every so often a night.

In the studio, again -- nothing's changed. At any given moment GN'R has two leads and a rhythm.

Which is it?? She worked on CD... or she worked on remixes... Working on a remix does not make you a part of any group... It means you made a remix... an official remix maybe, but a remix none the less

What's the difference? At this stage in the game anything worked on from late 90s until the reunion gets the CD label attached to it. No other album title was ever revealed which is why fans simply call what is left CD II and even Axl once referred to as "the second half of Chinese". There was that  "Stay of Execution" trademark that expired but no one knows what that was intended to be.

We know of the CD remix thing which I thought was a bad idea from the start especially considering how the album was rolled out and the response to it.

Chinese Democracy or a remix of Chinese Democracy is still Chinese Democracy. We can split hairs until the cows come home but everything has been Chinese Democracy since Axl mentioned it in 1999.

If someone wants to call it Australian Fascism or Timbuktu Socialism...go right ahead.

ID...I know what the info was. You're also taking it a bit too seriously. Its reminiscent of the days leading up to Hammerstein when John 5 was predicted to be rehearsing with them and it wound up being Bumblefoot onstage.

Its ok to be wrong. tongue

The girl was a shock to everyone not in the inner circle. Not everything gets out in the open. I've heard "chatter" about certain things the past few months as well and none of it indicated she was entering the picture.

With Slash, no need for a third guitar player.

Absolutely. If anything, it would be an insult.

Fans need to remember that it wasn't AXl's vision to have 3 guitarists. Finck cleared the air on this. He came back, that made 3 guitarists, so Axl ran with it.

That wont be happening this time.

Judging by that video she could easily play NR or anything else in the set if Axl doesn't feel like doing it or they want her in a higher profile role doing SOD.

Bringing her in could go in many directions. She could be the spotlight in several songs, eye candy for the crowd, the uniqueness of having a female GNR member, etc. As far as recording goes, it's pretty obvious she was involved in Chinese with Brain. She says so on her site. Maybe she added something unique and they want to keep her involved.

Either way, I think its great. Pitman did not have many fans in the GNR base and this woman can easily get her own following.

I personally agree. I think this also was done purposefully, so ID might be right with his predictions of Chris being out of the band for a different reason than people think.

Melissa being involved opens up multiple doors for the band, specifically on a reunion tour. It allows the band to tour as a 6-piece, like in the UYI days, except with Richard & Frank instead of Gilby & Matt, and instead of bringing in the 976 Horn section and Tracy & Roberta, having Melissa allows other songs to be played from the set, while providing female backing vocals/harmonies as well as activating pro tools and potential horns for songs in the catalog.

Another neat aspect of Melissa's involvement, other than the eye candy, is that since 2006 GN'R has been STRICTLY a tribute act. 2006-07 was an attempt at a modern rock image with a classic sound (and was frankly the real presentation they planned for CD), and 2009-14 was nothing more than a sleaze rock/metal tribute act to their 80's Guns image, ala Motley Crue.

But not since 2001-02 has GN'R attempted a fresh tour presentation with fresh ideas for it's audience. They tried it during 1992, and again during 2001-02, but dropped it afterwards.

Could it be? Will Melissa be given a solo section that's something ala Deadmau5? Steve Moore? This Guns N' Roses reunion will attract ALL types of fans. MUSIC fans. Not just rock fans. Rock fans will be entertained by acts like AIC & The Cult, but the youngens might want something ala instrumental Silkworms.

Gives the band a rest, but at the same time... IF... IF... it's done right... it might could be a fresh 2016 tour presentation for Guns that brings in a more "all audiences" thing ala U2 or other bands. These guys are attempting to do stadiums. STADIUMS. In the U.S. Going out and getting an Asian Taylor Swift + EDM girl to shake things up might be the exact reboot these guys need to bring past rock into the future. Something NO ONE has done. NO ONE since the 1991-94 period in music.

Just my two cents

Pitman/Bumble/Frank tried the GNR EDM thing and it didn't exactly set the club world on fire sad Shame really as I actually liked their WTTJ but most fans viewed it with the same contempt that they viewed Better Gone, Blood In The Water etc. Would be a sad state of affairs if suddenly EDM was accepted by GNR fans just because a chick is pressing the buttons.

Some of the shit I've read about Melissa on the forums is disgusting. Hope she knows what she's let herself in for hmm

I mainly stuck to Evo last night and checked Twitter to see the reaction.

Some of the crap I saw last night said about her on other sites was definitely deplorable, trolling on a basement dwelling virgin level, and says more about those people than it does Melissa.

Oh that would be so bad fucking ass. Do like a 20-minute medley of Move To The City and find a way to merge Skynyrd & Allman in there, throw in Cinderella's "Shelter Me" as a wink to the 80's and weed it out with a Move To The City finish at the end.

I made that post because I knew you would love that idea. Axl could be the new Gregg Allman so easily and with Richard and Slash they could do anything. Need some southern rock and some blues soul shit on some of the new music. People love that shit.

CERTAIN people love that shit. Obviously GN'R has a big fanbase in the southern U.S., always has for songs like Paradise City & Yesterdays. But those same fans utterly hated Chinese because it didn't have that.

At the same time, I knew guys growing up that never listened to GN'R because they heard Paradise or Yesterdays once and assumed they were a country music band and never listened again.

Some people are stupid.

But GN'R always found a way to make it much more Rolling Stones, sprinkle it when possible, but not let it dominate their set.

Again, Pitman did not want to tour anymore. Even the last tour. He wanted to stay in the studio. There's no reason to bash the guy. He had to deal with dumbass, douchebag trolls and lashed out.

His comments about it being a cash grab can't have been directed at trolls?

Also i'm not bashing him, I'm just saying, he's always seemed to act as if he's old gnr and as if the band was actually going to do something wink

Yes, he was being sarcastic about what the comments were. That's what mygnr trolls were saying to him. He'd been in the band over 20 years and people like SG are going on tangents, bashing the guy for calling the band "guns" because he had no right to. That's the deranged state of trolls they deal with. They've been disrespected for years, they have the right to get pissed off.

The band did do something...

That's how I read that whole situation too. Pitman's comments were directed at that segment of fans, not at the band or Slash and Duff.

It is an odd situation though. Being so involved and gung ho about everything, being told to pipe down, going off on fans, apologizing for that, then a girl he worked with in the past shows up in his stead for show 1. It doesn't seem like he graciously stepped aside or decided to focus on Tool instead. Seems like some bad choices and timing on his part to me.
