I haven't watched a recent movie in a while but  did binge on Stranger Things ahead of the finale. Loved some of it, hated some. However, it left me with a terrible longing for the early 80ies. I intend to watch Marty Supreme at some point, as well as the new Wuthering Heights and a couple others.

I rewatched Moby Dick with Gregory Peck. Amazing movie. The last recent movies I remember watching were Nosferatu and Poor Things and that was like, a year ago.

I seen like 40 films or something in the cinema last year. Marty Surpreme which didn't get a wide release till a couple weeks ago was probably better than all of them.

It has a very cult classic memorable (everyone  in a decade will know the film) type. Not saying it's a masterpiece, but it is very enjoyable.

Disliked the Nosteratu remake. Very bland generic remake of Bram Stoker's Dracula (which it originally was supposed to be apparently). Good cinematography, but not alot of depth.

On Stranger Things. I liked the show originally, however really disliked the final season.

Hidden Text:

Way way too safe and it felt like there wasn't much of an idea despite the break of years inbetween seasons - big budget and extended run times. It's too heavily padded and way too many side characters who suddenly become main characters.

Definitely liked Poor Things, but honestly Buogina that also has Emma Stone in it from last year was better. One of my favorite films from last year.

As for for some of the earlier complaints in the thread about modern films. I honestly just think that people aren't looking for the right stuff. Cinema is very much alive, you just have to stop looking for the popcorn flicks and the marketing.

I think Marty Supreme will be a great experience. Another movie on my current must watch list is Hamnet.

Robert Duvall another great one passed away.  It’s been rough on 70s movie icons lately .

Redford, Keaton, Duvall.  And more to come sadly.  A lot of them are over 80.

They called him "Godfather actor" in our paper, as if people don't know who Robert Duvall was.

Weird seeing all these old actors passing. Soon there won't be any left. Like, will it be big news when one day Chris Pratt dies?

they will list whatever franchise films they were in first , outside of that they won’t mention much.

Think about it this way: if Duvall had never made (or got cast) in the Godfather movies , there’d still be a shit ton of significant and important movies he was in.

Can you say the same for most of these actors under 45 or so?

I even went and looked at his IMDB just now.  Take out the Guardians of the Galaxy (and Marvel stuff) and the Jurassic films in his filmography.  What are you left with that is noteworthy and significant?

It’s just mind boggling how tied into franchise films these actors are now days.

I did laugh because the first google thing that came out on Pratt was some bomb film that he made that is getting released on video.

If I ask my friends who Chris Pratt is they will have no idea. If I show them a picture they will probably have seen his face somewhere. I suppose that's where it will be at. Known faces with unknown names.

I forgot about AI. That hasn't really begun yet despite being very advanced. They will totally start to resurrect old actors from the past once the technology becomes good enough. Make another Rambo with a young Stallone. Bring back Cary Grant. Bet on it. Imagine the crossover movies they could do with that.
