Rock Band Set List Unveiled

Harmonix, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a division of Viacom's MTV Networks, along with distribution partner Electronic Arts, announced today the final song list for its highly anticipated music videogame Rock Band. Touting the most master recordings of any music game ever by some of the world's biggest rock artists, Rock Band includes 58 tracks and spans every genre of rock ranging from alternative and classic rock to heavy metal and punk. With multiple instruments and an impressive selection of online and offline game modes to choose from to play as a band or individually, Rock Band offers an infinite number of ways to play each song and live out their ultimate rock and roll fantasies.

'Our goal with Rock Band was to give players the chance to experience an amazing cross section of music from the last four decades, and our final list of tracks includes everything from emerging bands to iconic artists,' stated Paul DeGooyer, MTV's Senior Vice President of Home Entertainment, Music and Games. 'The overwhelmingly positive response from artists, music publishers and record labels made the final selection process challenging, but extremely exciting. As a result, 51 out of 58 of the final selections are based on original masters, giving fans an unprecedented way to get closer to the music they love.'

Eric Brosius, Harmonix audio lead stated, 'Now that the disc track list is locked and Rock Band is being prepped for manufacture, we are working with our music partners to set an exciting download schedule, both for launch and beyond. Through DLC, players will have the ability to take a deeper dive into the music of the artists featured on the Rock Band disc, or further explore different genres of rock or additional bands if they choose.'

An additional full album by Metallica
18 songs by The Grateful Dead (including "Casey Jones", "Sugar Magnolia", "Touch of Grey", "Truckin'", and "Uncle John's Band")

Hey Neemo!  Been awhile, whassup??  I have a PS3, my best friend has an XBOX 360 and my nephew has the Wii so I can give you an honest opinion from seeing all three first hand.  Ok, first of all if it's for the kids Wii cannot be touched and it is a fairly good console for "everyone else" as well although it won't produce XBOX 360/PS3 style graphics.  Now for the XBOX/360 debate.  I bought the PS3 based on what I had seen of its capabilities and history of the Playstation console but if I were buying NOW, I'd say go with the XBOX 360.  The reason is more games and a better price tag.  The XBOX 360 right now is as good as the PS3 (minus blu ray) for less money and a larger library so you can't go wrong.  I've heard all the "death to PS3" opinions but I believe the PS3 to be a more powerful machine that simply has been harder to develop games for (the same was true with the PS2 for the first generation or two of games) and had a TERRIBLE mismanagement by SONY.  I almost think because they were losing money on the console (about 200.00 more to make than what they sold it for) that they didn't WANT to sell a large amount at first.  If so...their mistake.  WHich is good because XBOX is a serious rival now!  I do believe that PS3 will eventually show a superiority in technology and thus have better/more advanced games, but who knows when/if that will happen.  Go with the XBOX 360.  My friend has the sports games for the XBOX 360 and I have them for the PS3, some look better on my console and some on his but in the end it's about half and half.  HOWEVER, Madden runs a little quicker on his console than mine, I heard the frame rate is less for the PS3 on that game.  Mine looks a little better but his is a tad faster.  The boxing and FIFA games are better on the PS3 and the basketball games are dead even.  Hockey is amazing on the PS3 but my friend don't have it so I can't give you a comparison.  As far as quality he hasn't had any problems with his XBOX and my PS3 has never had any problems either.  As of now, the XBOX 360 is the better deal in my opinion unless you want a blu ray dvd player, then go with the PS3.

p.s. DAMN YOU and THOSE PATRIOTS!!! That is the most dominant team I have EVER seen in my memory.  I think they have a very real chance at an undefeated season.

Xbox 360 Tops PS3 in Japan

November 9, 2007 - Microsoft is having one impressive week over in Japan. In addition to grabbing the second slot in the Media Create top 50 sales charts with Ace Combat 6, the 360 sold 17,673 hardware units in one week alone. With the new sales, the system has at last crossed the 500,000 sold mark, which is something that the original Xbox never did.

But more than that, this is what we're sure will keep people talking. The 17,673 hardware units was enough for the 360 to beat both the PS2 and PS3! Yes, the 360 is now the second hottest console in Japan (next to the Wii).

Topping the Media Create hardware charts for the week of 10/29 to 11/4 is, expectedly, the DS Lite, whose 78,552 units beat second place PSP's 59,714. Wii comes in next with 37,617 units, a jump of about 10,000 from last week, likely fueled by Super Mario Galaxy's release.

The PS3 is actually pretty close to the 360, at 17,434 units. Given that Media Create estimates its numbers based off a sampling of stores, it's possible that the PS3 did actually beat the 360 this week. We'll never know for sure. What is pretty clear, however, is that the 360 beat the PS2, which only managed 10,209 units.

Strong 360 sales were likely influenced by Microsoft's 5,000 yen price drop and the release of Ace Combat 6. The 360 also saw a flood of budget releases for popular titles like Idol Master and Earth Defense Force.

The true test will be if the 360 can maintain these impressive numbers next week. Koei is bringing Dynasty Warriors 6 to the system on Sunday, which should help drive system sales.

The PS3, meanwhile, will have that as well, along with the heavily marketed 39,980 yen 40 gigabyte system and one of those few foreign titles that actually commands an audience in Japan, Ratchet & Clank.

It's doubtful that the 360 will beat the PS3 in sales next week, but we presume Microsoft wouldn't mind just staying in five digits for two weeks in a row.

October video game sales hit $1.1 billion

'Guitar Hero III' needed just six days to sell a combined 1.4 million units

SAN FRANCISCO - U.S. sales of video game hardware and software jumped 73 percent in October, with Nintendo's Wii console regaining its spot as the top-selling console, industry data showed on Thursday.

Total sales were $1.1 billion, compared to $643 million a year earlier, according to market research firm NPD.

Nintendo sold 519,000 Wiis while Microsoft sold 366,000 Xbox 360 consoles and Sony sold 121,000 of its PlayStation 3 machines.

(MSNBC is a joint Microsoft-NBC Universal venture.)

In September, the Xbox 360 knocked the Wii from the top spot it had held all year, thanks to a boost from the release of Microsoft's blockbuster 'Halo 3' game.

"What this demonstrates is that we are putting more and more product into the marketplace and we continue to sell out as soon as it hits," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

The console makers and game publishers are positioning for the holiday shopping season that can account for as much as half of the year's sales of gaming hardware and software.

While Nintendo is scrambling to produce enough units to meet demand, Microsoft is busy touting its broad line-up of games and pitching the Xbox 360 towards more casual gamers that lie outside its traditional consumer base of young men.

Sony, meanwhile, has tried to spark interest in the PS3 by cutting prices and rolling out a slate of highly anticipated games that showcase its graphical muscle.

"Remember that the PS3 price cut came in November so we'll have to wait until our data comes out next month to see the effect of that cut on retail sell-through of the hardware," NPD analyst Anita Frazier said in a statement.

Microsoft's 'Halo 3' was the best-selling game on a single console, moving 433,800 copies, but Activision's "Guitar Hero 3" needed just six days on the market to sell a combined 1.4 million copies across all three major consoles, as well as Sony's older PlayStation 2.

"'Guitar Hero' has certainly established itself among the elite video games properties," Frazier said. "Since it has broad appeal, it's also the type of game that should continue to do very well throughout the holidays."

Just wanted to say I got Super Mario Galaxy yesterday, and it is indeed a killer app. It is my game of the year to be honest, after about a minute or so of getting used to the controls, the thing handles like a dream and controls with such ease. It is a must own game of this generation of gaming in my opinion.
