Yeah...that's the thing...the first half of the reunion shows...when the media was watching with interest ready to nail him - he delivered and performed with a lot of vocal power....then when it came time for Axl/Dc.....when the media was skeptical and a hostile fanbase who may not accept him was present....he delivered a lot of vocal power......

Bottom line is, while it's obvious he finds it all harder than he once did, he still has the ability to deliver when it matters to him.

But it's more than obvious that stuff like a special AFD30 anniversary show simulcast with the radio, or Rio filmed live for millions of people are obviously not worth the effort to him - and I can't support that.

As for the rest of the band, some of the mistakes I think are sound issues, it's like they can't hear where each other were up to at all at times in the songs. As for why this type of thing seems to happen to GNR more than any other band, well we can only speculate, but they seem to be haunted by such problems at a rate other professional bands aren't.

Did anyone here watch the show?

The negativity is not just fans looking to bitch, there's a lot of people who noticed Axl's voice was the worst of the whole tour. Look at the negative stuff in this article:

Headline:

Guns save classic training return from Ax's disastrous voice

Quotes:

"more difficult than making peace with the old teammates was to find Axl's voice on stage"

"the singer changed clothes and struggled to run from one side to the other"

"With a flawed voice, he made a point of singing in falsetto, tune up to try to reach higher grades and turned good songs like "Estranged" and "Live and Let Die" (Paul McCartney) into a somewhat painful experience"

"In "Better", for example, there was an awkward silence"

"It was a relief when Duff McKagan took over the microphone to sing"

"but as for the voice, missed the era. Axl's voice was also one of Twitter's most talked about subjects during the show's broadcast"

I don't think the setlist is really much of a problem.

The problem is the mistakes and the timing issues and Axl's voice.

Have a listen to the show yesterday - they're seriously playing the wrong backing chords under the solos and stuff at times.

I was honestly shocked.

I'd love to call this an off night. And I think in this instance it was exasperated by sound issues and the like. Although this band is loose as fuck - it's like there's zero communication between Slash and Frank at times. But realistically it's been an off night almost every show in 2017. Pretty much every performance this year has been drastically worse than in 2016 never mind everything else.

Maybe they should reconsider this 3 hour set too.

People always post it as a positive but I mean at some stage especially at a festival, I think people would be happier with a balls to the wall short setlist of half the length where  Axl actually tried his hardest and delivered a memorable performance, than 3 hours of him pacing himself and protecting to the extent that it becomes unlistenable and brings shame on the band.

Not had a chance to watch it yet.

Realistically I wasn't expecting them to make an effort to do anything new, but I was hoping for a decent version of what they normally do as a keepsake.

But I gather from friends it was all mickey and out of time?

I think i might be done. If there's a new album I'll be first in line, but its hard to get excited about live shows if they're not going to make an effort to perform at their current best even for stuff like massive shows with live telecasts and whatever.

I have a fantasy that they do the new guitar heavy rock version of OMG at Rio17 tomorrow...but don't like the chances!

The bit that frustrates me is the official releases are often not the best stuff that existed,,,

The proshot footage from Rock Am Ring 2006 is absolutely a better representation of the new-band than the blu-ray that came out. Arguably so is the footage from Rio 2001.

Hell even if you want the DJ band there's pro-shot footage from 2009 and 2010 that they are hoarding that destroys that vegas dvd.

Likewise the record came out with sloppy artwork and questionable mixing.

Now IF we get a DVD it's going to be Troubadour - where the band was green and before they nailed the setlist...etc...

It's just frustrating...like the keepsakes are always the average stuff...and the great stuff gets hoarded or traded only amongst hardcores etc....why not just release some of your best work properly.

Definitely an alternate take....that was probably recorded before the twin towers collapsed.

That's insane if it's an alternate take...as it's like 100 times cooler than what's on the album - and I even like the album version...but this is way better.

I was wondering if it was more modern though as it seemed to be the type of modern rasp axl was using around 2009.

#999 Re: Guns N' Roses » Interesting comment on the Troubadour show... » 451 weeks ago

yeah it's frustrating...they film troublador well but it wasn't the best show cos the band was green, then they've filmed the others with only 3 cameras sad

Hopefully we get a good proshot at rio.

I wonder if this footage will join the other GNR dvds that never were....from memory there's:

1. The Axl Rose Documentary - bits of it leaked in 2006 where u see Axl walk into the show from backstage
2. The Asian Tour videos from 2009-10. There was a leaked promo from a doco about that which never came out.
3. The london show that was to be in theares...this one leaked....

But no...none of that comes out...only a bad bluray of Axl's worst era....Grrrr.

Yeah hopefully...although I remember the hate Vince Neil got on some of his more average Motley Crue vocal nights....if Axl was mickey enough then I could see some comments about it....but then again Slash being back buys him a lot of credit....probably why slash is back lol....
