Must confess I'd missed/forgotten about jekyll b4 u mentioned it - it actually looks really good!

I ended up watching Jekyll a few years ago after a good recommendation online.  I liked it a lot.  It also features Michelle Ryan and Gina Bellman.  Ryan was in that NBC Bionic Woman reboot a few years ago.  And Bellman was on Leverage (close to an American version of the UK show Hustle) which just got cancelled a week ago or so.

The Smith firing I don't get. 10-6 with a horrible front office making terrible decisions. I think he would be a great fit with The Bills. They've got a good defense he can work with and all he needs is to draft a good QB and another big WR.

The offense was bad and the team tapered off after a 7-1 start.  He has never had an offense rank higher than 23rd in his Chicago years.  I think he gets hired in Cleveland as I'm not sure Buffalo will pay out the cash for an established NFL coach.  I know SD won't as the Spanos are cheaper than Bud Adams.  Smith has already been contacted by 4 teams already.  I think the new Cleveland owner would want to make a high profile hire.  Not really sure about the Bills being a good defense, they had problems with against the run and probably need LB and S along with their QB and WR issues.  I figure one of the QB's goes in the top 5 and another one might go before Buffalo's pick at #8.

Andy Reid is supposedly going to interview in Arizona.  I'm slightly surprised at that one since the Bidwells are another member of the cheap NFL owner group and they have to pay a lot for an established guy like Reid.  Well that and I'd assume that Ray Horton would get the job after the Whiz got canned.  If Reid somehow gets the job, I bet Kolb is kept and they go OT with their #9 pick.

Eagles definitely going for an offensive mind to replace Reid.  The leaked list of candidates: Penn State coach Bill O’Brien, Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, and Oregon coach Chip Kelly.  Kelly I think is the favorite since I've read rumors that they were going to offer him a ton of cash.  Bill O' Brien is a slightly surprising name since I had assume he would stay at Penn State.  I take that back as Jason LaCanforna (never a reliable source) say that several teams are interested in Bill O' Brien as their head coach.

The "hot names" seem to be Broncos OC Mike McCoy and Falcons OC Dirk Koetter.

And I'm still upset that Munchak survived the firing squad and they only canned the team president.:flame:

And this one's for you misterid:  Jeff Ireland will be back with the Dolphins for next year.

I don't wanna post spoilers, but I fucking loved the season finale!

Gotta disagree with you there.  I found parts of the plot unrealistic and full of holes.  Even the big reveal at the end seems like a Season 2 redux.  I will say this though that last scene was very well acted.  Just a lot of sloppy writing all around.

On a happier note, I really enjoyed the Doakes scenes and wished he could have stayed around for more 2 years.  Instead we get 6 years of boring Quinn.  Doakes was one of the few people who made Dexter feels uneasy and on edge most of the time.  He was also one of the few competent cops around Miami Metro.

This was better than season six but that's not hard to do considering I consider that season basically a sleeping pill.  I'm actually more disappointed with this year because it started out well.

Anyone see what Detroit allowed to happen today? Fucking crazy. ALL of Detroit media was calling for Schwartz' head prior to today. I cannot imagine what the radio will be like tomorrow.

He gets a free pass for this year because of the playoff appearance from last season.  However, the seat will be a little warm next year.  Having seen his defenses in action for a long time, I'm not surprised with some of the fourth quarter meltdowns.  Lions defense depends on getting a pass rush from the front four with minimal blitzing.  If they don't get there the secondary is exposed.  The Lions need to improve their secondary in the offseason badly.  They also need a 2nd WR to take heat off Megatron.  Titus Young Jr.  was an awful pick and Broyles blew out an ACL for a 2nd straight year.

misterID wrote:

Is it wrong to hope your team just loses out the rest of the season so we can get Jarvis Jones?

Nope.  Alreadly far ahead of you on that one since the Titans have gone into the toilet for the last month or so.  I'm hoping for Star Lotuleilei or Deontre Moore from A&M.  I'm still not sure how the Titans destroyed the Dolphins coming out of the bye week.

Jarvis Jones might fall a little because of his spinal stenosis and could be around when the Dolphins pick.  But what they need most of all is a game breaker at WR.  The other 2 guys (Hartline and Bess) are good possesion guys but they need someone that can take the top off a defense.  They could sign Bowe or Greg Jennings as a FA.

Lot of shitty teams won this week which helps the Titans.  No one is catching the Chiefs for the top pick though.  Philly will grab the best available OT on the board unless they sign Jake Long who is supposed to be an UFA after the year.

Can't wait for the MNF game next week vs the Jets.  If the Titans get destroyed at home on national tv, Munchak will probably be fired.

NFC East is suddenly an interesting division.  That season finale between Cowboys vs Redskins could be important if both teams are at 9-6.  I can't really see a 10-6 missing the playoffs.

Nothing has major happened. Greinke and Hamilton still haven't signed

Greinke signed for 147 million over 6 years.  The Dodgers have a 200 million dollar payroll.  Guess they didn't learn from the Red Sox or Phillies of the past few years.

Rays bent over the Royals tonight in a trade.  Rays acquire a top hitting prospect Wil Myers, minor league P Jake Odrozzi, and minor league P Mike Montgomery and low minors 3b Patrick Leonard for RHP James Shields, pitcher Wade Davis and a PTBNL.

Myers is supposed to be a top 5 hitting prospect in all of baseball and will be cheap.  Odrozzi adds another starting pitching prospect to the Rays.  The other two guys are lotto ticket type prospects.  Shields is a good pitcher but he isn't Halladay (or insert whichever top pitcher you want) and he's going to be expensive going forward.  And the Rays have enough depth at both the major and minor leagues to absorb the loss.

I'd hate to be a Royals fan right now.

The hot rumor for a day last week was that the Phillies may have had an interest in Ellsbury and Cliff Lee's name was floated around.  I'd be on cloud 9 if that deal went down.  Don't see it making much sense though from the Phillies perspective.  Yes Lee is owed 75 million for the remaining 3 years of his contract, but I would think you could still get more for him than a player who only has one year left on his deal and will demand a large sum of money.

To be honest, I have no idea what the Phillies are doing.  After they traded for Young they talked about maybe making another big move.  With their payroll, I would expect them to stick with this group one last time.  I think they said they weren't interested in moving Lee at this time.

Another guy the Red Sox can trade is Saltalamachia.  He doesn't make that much and now is expendalble with Lawarrnay and Ross on the roster.  I heard the White Sox might be interested.

#1026 Re: The Garden » The MLB Thread » 701 weeks ago

Surprised no one has talked about the offseason moves so far.

Everyone is waiting on Greinke to sign in either LA or Texas.  He signs in Texas and Hamilton goes off somewhere else.  Seattle, Boston, New York have been mentioned as possible destinations.  Greinke signing also affects Annibal Sanchez as the Dodgers will probably go after him hard if they lose out on Greinke.

Justin Upton was getting pursued hard by the Rangers but the trade fell apart for whatever reason.

Boston signed several players in the last month--David Ross, Shane Victorino, and Mike Napoli.  Ross was signed as a backup which is fine.  Napoli got a 3yr deal to play first base at market value which is ok since they needed another hitter after trading Adrian Gonzalez.  But they paid Victorino 13 million.  I can't figure that one out if Victorino doesn't bounce back and supply some sort of offense.   I don't really like paying outfielders 10+ million dollars just for defense and intanglibles.

Twins weren't kidding when they said they were looking for pitching.  Traded Span to the Nationals for Alex Meyer.  Traded Revere to the Phillies for Vance Worley (Twins own his rights through 2018) and propect Trevor May.  I think they did well in both those trades especially the Phillies one.

Phillies acquire Michael Young from Texas for a reliever and a pitching prospect.  Ugh, even with Texas paying 10 million of Young's salary why do the Phillies feel the need to get older?  They'd better win something in the next two years otherwise that team is going to go downhill fast.

Rays acquire  Yunel Escobar from the Marlins for a minor league IF.  The minor league IF (name escapes me at the moment) seems like the Marlins got a good player.  Escobar is an enigma he seems to be a good player but he's been traded several times and you hear the same stuff each time.  He's a bad teamate seems to be the common theme.  The Rays got very little production out of SS so this works for them too.  Rays also willl probably move one of their young pitchers not named David Price for a young hitter.

Mariners are looking for anybody who can hit.  They signed Jason Bay as a reclamation project and are pursuing Josh Hamilton.  They're not going after Michael Bourn which is a good move since they need more power and Bourne doesn't provide that.  They're probably gunshy too after wasting a whole bunch of cash on Chone Figgins a few years ago.

BJ Upton signed a five year 75 million dollar deal with the Braves.  It seems like the Braves overpaid a little for him.

The only thing I have to say about the Marlins is that I wish the voters of Florida gave the Rays a new ballpark instead of the Marlins.

Pirates overpay Russell Martin and I'm really close to picking another MLB team (or just another one in addition to the Pirates) to root for.  This type of signing is a typical Pirates signing that will blow up in their face.

ARod will be out for a while after hip surgery.  Yankees are interested in Youkillis which makes for a very interesting signing and plotline.  Back to Arod, he has 647 HR and I don't think he'll reach 700 at the rate his body is breaking down.  He's also signed through 2017 although I think I read somewhere that insurance will cover part of the contract.

#1027 Re: The Sunset Strip » Dexter (Spoiler Alert) » 701 weeks ago

Jeez, did this turn into a steaming pile of poop fast.  The season had so much promise but I'm only watching now because I've invested so much time into it.  And I want to see how the LaGuerta thing plays out.

Memo to Dexter writers--quit focusing on the romance of this show.  You guys suck at writing this (over several seasons not just this one) and giving more time to the Hannah McKay/Dexter storyline won't make it better.  The last episode was very boring and hard to sit through.

They torpedoed (or sidelined) the interesting Deb-Dexter tension that was at the beginning of the year.  Not sure why they felt the need to add another killer/mystery to the mix.

And can somebody off Quinn?  His storyline with the stripper is just not working.

Yeah, I'm dead on the middle of the fence about this.

I don't hate GB2 as much as many others do, but we'll see how it goes with this. I think Murray's attitude going forward might tell us a lot. If, as the project progresses he's excited about it, I'd bet it'll be good. If we hear little to nothing from him or he's negative about it, I'd be it'll be a steaming pile.

Funny you should mention GB2, I remember seeing it a while ago on tv and enjoying it and wondering why there was that much hate for it.  Of course, I had a VHS tape of it and watched it several times while growing up, so that probably doesn't hurt.

Like others, I'm not down with that younger Ghostbusters part of the script.  And yeah, I think part of this should focus on how much older they've gotten although not in a "they're washed up" sense.

You answered part of the question in the previous post:

Cramer wrote:

That's incredibly important to understand; a shifting demographic that is now America. The GOP has to appeal to more than the angry white vote or they are in big trouble.

I'd add that most of the GOP votes were 50 and over people.  You just cannot win without getting a decent amount of votes from the younger generation.  The GOP immigration efforts over the last few years turned off a lot of Latinos as well.  Bush Jr.  was smart enough to not ignore or piss off this voting block, probably because he was Texas governor.  Romney didn't do himself any favors with blacks over his "47% comment."  And the numerous dumb things said by Republican candidates about rape led to women overwhelmingly voting for Democrats.

Also, Obama had a far superior GOTV operation and local ground game.

Last sobering thought:

There was a total of 892 million spent on this election.
