#1041 Re: GN'R Downloads » Chinese Democracy alternative album covers » 457 weeks ago
Always thought that red hand cover was amazing...way better than what we got.
The original bike with graffiti idea is a decent concept but the execution just wasn't quite right....in that sense it fits the album well hahahahah
Although I do love CD it's one of my fav albums really...but it's amazing that from the mix to the art to the promo to the production time everything about it was always like "well this is cool as shit...but...."

Yeah TSI sounds amazing.
But I wonder if Clink is on the outs...we didn't hear much about him in the CD era did we? Isn't one of the things of this tour that Slash and Duff could come back but not to bring any people from the past.

They can't even put out a retrospective album, or even a 30th anniversary edition of an old album.
This is what worries me.
A 30th remaster set for AFD would have been easy to do yet they didn't do it.
It's really not a good sign.
I mean albums like STP's Core and Motley's Dr Feelgood got a 25th edition, and Def Lepard are releasing a massive Hysteria 30th this year....but for GNR with one of the most important albums in rock history......nothing at all.

yeah...realistically the producer is Axl and whoever his current pet computer nerd is....out with pitman in with melissa at the moment...but then in 2021 when this actually happens who knows?

Depends what you call relevant.
I believe they could make an album similar to Rock or Bust.
IE: Sounds like classic GNR, sells well in rock circles, but of course it's not relevant in the world of pop acts and kardassians or poppy or whatever.
That said...seems the next move is Axl goes to Ac/Dc for 2-3 years. Slash will probably do another solo album with myles. So we might be waiting 5+ years more...and of course one day it all ends - how many years did they smoke for again?

the absence of slash isn't the only reason chinese democracy sounds so jarringly different than the rest of gnr's catalog.
I think that's about the introduction of protools though.
Axl had always liked adding layers of vocals on tape, and even a bit of synth in PC and stuff....but protools let him go off the deep end layering stuff and keeping tons of takes.
If you listen to the isolated rhythm parts from rock band they are digitally edited like crazy.

I mean I think classic major acts can always make some coin touring...but at the same time you'd think a lot of the hype for this tour was because it was essentially the reunion tour...first time in a generation to see Axl and Slash.
Next cycle they need something to freshen it up or the sales would drop a bit.
I know a lot of people who went to my city show cos they missed gnr in 1993 and this was their first chance because they don't tolerate the non-slashless versions. Not sure some of those casuals would go again though - it was their bucketlist and they ticked it off.

Did n`t O`Brian produce a turd that was Libertad ?
Yes but only after the band fired Rick Ruben because they wanted a discount and they didn't like it when he told them to keep writing!!!
Dave himself later confirmed the band went ahead despite not having the songs yet, I don't think it's fair to put that on O'Brian.
He also produced Black Ice, and Rock or Bust for Ac/Dc and did a good job of getting their classic sound despite age and other issues.
He's also done a variety of other solid albums like Core and Purple from STP.

The ginger could do much to atone for his sins. The only losing move is not to play.
Exactly.
No one really expects them to make a new AFD just like no one expects AC/Dc to be able to emulate Back in Black....but even the average albums of people with a lot of talent like Axl usually have something to offer.
It's so frustrating and wasteful.

Also while I agree Manson has put out a fair amount of crap - when he writes a straight up rock song they can be pretty good:
