I like Axl more too...i'm just saying he went after those styles...but that sort of computer heavy music is entirely different to everything he'd previously succeeded in.
I guess it's good to be ambitious. But it would have been better suited to a solo album like most bands do, or if it was GNR then a short project album like LuLu from metallica...before continuing on with GNR as what GNR is.
But instead Axl had plans to slowly reeducate the public on what GNR means....over the course of 3 albums...all while teaching himself guitar and how to use computers...

Thing is you have to do what you're good at.
As a rock vocalist - Axl was one of the best in the world - arguably the absolute best in the world during his prime - fuck it he's still the go-to guy when it's time to solve an impossible problem like how to replace a guy like Brian Johnston in Ac/Dc! Even these days.
He likes Hip Hop and Electronica...but that doesn't automatically translate to being top level at that talent.
He didn't want to be locked into a genre and I get it - but the music game is the people who are the best at stuff doing what they do.
"It Tastes Good Don't It" was kinda cool - but it's not exactly Eminem worthy.
Shackler's Revenge isn't really Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails.
In a way i respect he wanted to try something new, but being a fan of something doesn't mean you're suited to do that thing, even if you love it. That's why I don't work in WWE.
Axl has amazing talent as a songwriter and performer..but I question how many different genres it was realistic to think he'd be worldclass at.

I wish they had the same sense of urgency I feel about it.
Like for how many more years will Slash be at the top of his game before his fingers slow down?
How many years left of screaming does Axl's voice have?
How long until 20+ years of previous drug and alcohol abuse triggers a heath crisis for Slash or Duff?
How long until time just catches up with one of them in the random way it can to any of us?
If they persist in doing nothing for another decade I don't want to hear about their #shock and #loss when the times comes.

I would say Brendan O'Brian.
I know Libertad was a disappointment but that was due to the band rushing forward and insisting on recording before they'd written enough material. Even Dave basically said the issue is the songs just weren't there.
But Brendan O'Brian has a sold history with STP, and in particular I like what he did with Ac/Dc's Black Ice, and Rock or Bust which i thought did a good job of capturing the Ac/Dc sound and sitting well with the back catalogue while still being fresh.
A Brendan O'Brian produced GNR record with Slash would probably sound like GNR again.

I wonder if any of the stuff Corey did with them filtered out into the new Stone Sour album?
Maybe...but Cory said he wrote 3 songs from scratch with them and the other 6-7 he just added vocals too. So i dont think the Vr instrumental ones would have.

I think in his Autobiography Slash implied that he wrote Crazy Bitch too - or at least that the buckcherry hit came from something they jammed with the VR boys.

I really hope something comes of this one day though.
I mean that's an entire CD of songs written by Slash and Izzy rejected by scott for being "too much like GNR".
Then there's at least 10 'heavier' VR songs sitting somewhere as well waiting for a vocalist.
That's a lot of material that could be worked up into GnR (unless that's too rude to Matt/Dave) or perhaps even revisited by Slash/Duff if Axl decides to spend the next few years with Ac/Dc.

I lean towards error as you'd think if it was real they would have been balls out marketing it that way for years - like Motley Crue's The End tour was....then again this is GNR....not like much happens according to logic.

I have a playlist of VR and STP that I enjoy together.
Slash was a bit too neutered in VR but they really rocked out live, and I miss the real band chemistry they have. Sorum/Slash/Matt just sound amazing together.

Marketing Error? Or is GNR done soon? Richard seems to hope for something more...but then maybe the future is Axl/Dc for GNR.
Or maybe they just mean the last leg of this tour?
